So I went to a psychic randomly over last weekend, it was kinda fun but awkward at the same time.

So the question is have you ever been to a psychic and did the reading come true?

By chance if you want to find out what happened to me check out my blog.

I am going to one tonight for the first time. What do I got to lose, right? It will be entertaining at least.
    1. faithsju243
So true, I mean what's the worse that can happen.
    2. acousticguitarist
no it's not, the worst that can happen is you hand over your power to be creative to someone with limited thought
    3. acousticguitarist
the best that can happen is it is entertaining

    I have.

Some were excellent, very good at intuitive arts - others were so-so, relying on cliches for business.

For what it's worth, they are not "psychic" or telling your future. They are intuitive to you and your energy (readable in a variety of ways, of which the readings manifest in as many ways) and they are only playing a third party to your personal life or dilemmas, offering deeper understanding of yourself or situation.

You still create your own future.

I'm expecting morgantj to pop in any second and talk about how we all have free will conditioned by our environment.
    2. Anok
yeah, where has he been, anyway?
    3. voodooKobra
I dunno. He hasn't even been posting on his blog. :\
  3. DrowseyMonkey
I've gone a few times for laughs. Nothing they said ever came true. I am impressed at how well some can read people tho...that's an art.
    1. faithsju243
@drowsey...it has provided laughs on many levels. She told me I am going to have four kids and my medical career is going to flourish. Considering that I am a consultant for insurance companies who isn't sure that I want kids...I don't see these things in my future.

I've thought about going, I think it would be fun and interesting -- never wanted to go enough to pay for it though!
    1. faithsju243
@lovelan....I've always been curious and for five bucks I couldn't pass it up besides it was all in good fun.
  5. Nomadic
Yes I have. I prefer to do my own readings though.
    1. G8rbryan
      That would be kewl
    2. Nomadic
Ahhhh Bryan....get rid of the music on your blog!
    3. G8rbryan
      Lol.
I have been trying to find the right song for my new attitude. Still searching for it.
    4. Nomadic
Try strong and silent. If ever a site starts singing to me I sign of immediately!

My wife went to a psychic before we got married. She said my wife and I would never get married. We have been married for over 10 years now. Go figure.
    1. faithsju243
dlowe...are you two still married just to spite the psychic?
  7. ekim941
I do construction work and was actually asked for a bid by a psychic. I was disappointed, it seems like she would already know how much I was going to charge her.
    1. dlowe
I bet I could have told you the bid after you told me.

I have an uncanny ability to predict the recent past.
    2. ekim941
      I think that's called "Memory"
    3. dlowe
Dude, you have no idea what you are talking about.

And I knew you said that after you said it. See?
  8. CrystalRaven
I think most PUBLIC psychics are charlatans, though some are very good reading people.
But I have known a few true psychics, the mom down the street, the old man at the bingo hall, the local bus driver (just examples) that do have the gift.
And I too, do my own readings.
    1. Anok
I do my own readings, as well as readings for friends...too.
  9. Nomadic
It's about empathy more than anything.
    1. ekim941
I disagree. I think it's about money more than anything.
    2. Anok
Only if you charge for it.

Whereas people such as myself do readings 100% free.
    3. Nomadic
@ekim - I meant the ability rather than the motivation
    4. ekim941
@Nomadic- Oh, in that case, you're right. I just don't know why you would call it psychic ability rather than empathetic advice.
    5. Nomadic
because it sells tickets, as you say!

Those any good aren't selling it (as with many things).
    6. ekim941
It also creates controversy (Which sells tickets).
    7. Nomadic
      indeed Ekim, indeed

I have. I always got a kick out of the ones who "predicted" that I'd have X number of kids, considering I got fixed back in '92...
More recently after meeting for brunch w/a few old coworkers, 2 of them went into a shop for readings. The first came out & 2nd went in. The 1st told us what the "psychic" had said. When the 2nd came out she told us her reading, too. They were identical. Needless to say, I was glad I'd saved my money.
  11. globalgirl
I have known people who *thought* they were psychics.

To answer your question, have you ever been to a psychic?

No, and I never will. Rubbish.
  12. acousticguitarist
I was waiting for you to ask that

Meredith wants you to call her

Nope, but I have a psychic friend who periodically makes unsolicited announcements that later turn out to be true. Nonetheless, I'm always absolutely certain that she's wrong when she offers her predictions and explain to her at great length why they make no sense and can't be accurate. Then they happen.
    1. voodooKobra
I can provide a hypothetical scientific explanation for that.

      1. Hearing a prediction might cause it to come true. This is the "self-fulfilling prophecy." If I say, "In ten seconds, you are going to think the prophecy I'm making is dumb," I'm probably right.

      2. For the rest of the stuff, these "psychics" are just really good a pattern recognition.
    2. MadameX
Kobra, I'm full of those myself, but I haven't yet come up with one that actually plays out in terms of the specific facts of the individual situations--especially since this is a woman I'm often out of touch with for years at a time, so that she often has no context regarding my recent life when she makes her pronouncements.
    3. faithsju243
@madamex does your friend's sense come in the form of a dream? One of my friend's grandmother's seems to always know when someone is pregnant.
    4. MadameX
I agree, Kobra--but the kinds of things that occur are more complex than that and more detached from everyday life. This kind of thing: I haven't seen her for about five years and have only talked to her about three times during those three years, none of them recent, when she calls me up and says "Are you moving? I've been feeling like you're moving out of town." And I say no, absolutely not, and list all of the reasons I wouldn't even consider moving at this point. Then, a week later, my husband gets offered a significant promotion out of the blue, but it's in another state.
    5. Anok
Tiffany, that happens to me often - in the form of dreams mainly, sometimes it's just a "gut feeling" though. I haven't had one in a while, and i think that's a good thing
  14. acousticguitarist
I am from a family of psychics, it is hereditary.

Careful or you'll really get me started on this topic
    1. voodooKobra
Do tell. This stuff fascinates me.
    2. acousticguitarist
      no way it's too complex

I was asked to take the platform in the eighties but I declined because it such a small world view
    3. voodooKobra
      But I like complex.
    4. acousticguitarist
      welcome to my family :-)
  15. newagebitch
I know an excellent psychic. Well, channel. There's a huge difference. This one won't tell your fortune and tell you freaky things that may or may not happen to you, but does help you get in touch with your soul. There's value in that. light-spring.com She does phone readings and stuff. VERY accurate.

Those public "psychics"? I agree, mostly charlatans. It's entertainment. Get the real thing.
  16. earthlingorgeous
I went to a psychic for an article I wanna do I went to three different ones just to see their approach.

I don't take them seriously but I do appreciate and take notes of the good things they all said which are somewhat jiving with what the other ones have told me. Then I forget about the bad things they told me but I keep myself aware.
  17. mikeny07
It is just about being able to "read" people. Some people can meet someone and sum them up as soon as they look at them. That is really all it is about I think. They are just very good at reading people.

I can meet someone also and sum them up without them saying a word. It has nothing to do with being psychic.
  18. jan4insight
Well, yes. I mean, I am one.
  19. katscandles
Yes, I have been to a few, and like many have said here, some are real fakes. But I have found 1 that didn't predict my future, or give me general things...she literally shocked the hell out of me with her "statements". She never fished for information, just told me facts that she couldn't possible know.
  20. flamingpoodle
If they were really psychic, they'd come to me when I need them.
  21. Sebastyne
I've seen one a couple of times, and she's great. Some of her comments are so spot on, that you can't do but laugh at them, like words she uses for people in your life that she hasn't, obviously, never met, are so descriptive, that you just crack up. Like "glue hair" of one of my ex-boyfriends, and "floppy pants" of a room mate. She makes comments about them that she had no way to know apart from just being psychic. Her predictions have come true, not all of them, but then again, not all of them were expected to be instant, some of them took years to manifest, some just a couple of weeks... Some I'm expecting to come true still, the "big dreams" sort of things. And, 10 years ago she predicted I would be a designer... I didn't believe her then, but look at me now, I just started designing wedding dresses.
  22. acousticguitarist
I think psychics are pretty low level sort of stuff, it's sort of a poor mans mysticism.

However I do think that people can occassionally get a bit of info that might suit their needs, but the real issue where it becomes a problem is that you are looking outside for a solution, wanting someone to tell you that things will be better than what they, that the mess you've got yourself into has a use by date.

And when you get some idea from a psychic, which is really just the psychics projection you might find yourself trying to get your reality to try to fit the projection. And if you go to ten psychics in a row, they'll all have a different story.

Save your money, go out for nice dinner with someone that your really like and shape your world into something that has sweetness and value instead of relying on hobgoblins to breathe hope into the organised chaos that you call your life.
  23. CrystalRaven
[If they were really psychic, they'd come to me when I need them]
no they wouldn't, because they either scare people or no one believes them, and if it's serious enough to force the issue, chances are it's not something you want to hear.
I won't go into detail, but quite a few years back I went to a family friend, I knew that their mother and brother would both pass away quite soon and felt they needed to know. The mother they could see as she was elderly, had health problems etc, but the brother they said was impossible, he was only in his 40's great, health, excercised, good eating habits etc.
Two weeks later the mother passed away in her sleep, and the day after her funeral the brother collapsed and died from a brain aneurysm.
They wouldn't speak to me for years because of this.
  24. mikeny07
You have to have some doubt when people are still trying to sell me real estate courses with no money down at 3am after all these years.

Is that one long sentence? ha
  25. Christa
I've been to psychics and intuitives many times and for me, all of the sessions helped in some way. The most important session of my life was the first one almost three years ago. I wrote about it on my blog. Click the link below.

    www.giggleon.com/2008/05/breaking-psychic-medium-cherry/

That session gave me piece of mind that my friend was ok and most importantly, the session saved my life.
  26. Scribblerchick
I have been to psychics several times in my life, more as a lark than anything else, but some of what they said came true.

I have some psychic power of my own, but it only seems to work with members of my immediate family. Since my father died, I sort of "tuned in" and a lot of times I just know things. It's fascinating and a little spooky sometimes.
  27. SweetViolet
I went to one once...I wasn't terribly impressed.

My husband, on the other hand, is spooky sometimes. We will be driving along in silence and suddenly he will ask me a question on the very subject I am thinking about. Sometimes he will say something just as I am about to say it...word for word. This has happened so many times I no longer think it is coincidence. Oddly, it usually happens in the car.
    1. voodooKobra
Oh come on people. That comic is hilarious.
  28. Mommish
Yes, I've had readings some made sense some didnt! As in every aspect of society there is real and fake. I have experienced too much not to have my own beliefs in what the world calls a psychic. I know things I have no way of knowing, so some how this information is coming to me - I dont know why. I dont tell the future but I see and feel the present and the past. The future information I receive usually makes no sense to me!
  29. jeffmccord
I have not... but I wonder what one would say if they were legit.
  30. thestylishtycoon
i've been to psychics. they're usually accurate in reading what's currently going on in your life, but not in telling the future. it depends on how they interpret the things that they see, and not all interpretations are accurate.
  31. pinklatex
Yes, Jeffrey Justice have me a reading, he is very good, scary...its like he reads your mind and speaks its contents back to you. I really hope to have him on our show soon. He has a website, jeffreyjustice.com.
  32. Anniepooh
I live with a psycho - does that count?
    1. faithsju243
@anniepooh....sadly I don't think the pyscho counts as a seer of the future, sorry!
  33. EelKat
nope, never been to one; not likely to either, it's just not the type of thing I'd do.
    1. faithsju243
@eelkat, I didn't think it was the type of thing I would do either but you'd be surprised what you do when you're on a sugar high from eating all the powder off the funnel cake.
  34. myriadlife
I had some predictions that came true in the given timescales. And no I was sure to keep my mouth shut so gave nothing away to lead to the predictions. The last psychic I saw was pretty good, am tempted to go again just for fun. That's how you have to treat it.
