A Brand New Head for Christmas

OK, not the whole head. Just part of it. The outside part, former residence of what used to be my hair.

For Christmas I received a "professional hair-cutting kit," which is nice, except for the fact that I'm an amateur when it comes to cutting hair and the kit does not cut hair by itself.

I hate getting my hair cut, so it had been a while since I had sat in the barber's chair and let a virtual stranger wield scissors near the part of my body that houses my brain, eyes and other key parts of the human body. I decided that I would cut my own hair from now on. Why not? I did it as a teenager and there are no bad teenager ideas.

You should trade it in for a Flowbee.

Do they still make those? LOL. This set of clippers and attachments is by Vidal Sassoon, which sounds fancy, but they're still just clippers in the hands of an amateur.

      lol, now you're talkin'.

I have done it couple of times... Thats why I am wearing a cap

I think it is quite easy but need bit of practice. Problem is you can not make much errors. Then you cannot go out...

I did my last hair cut myself. (And shaved my hair for 2 years before that, but that doesn't count as a hair cut, I don't think.) I only needed a bit of trimming and I though that if I went to a hair dresser, they would give me "my money's worth" and cut more than I was willing to shed. (I'm desperately growing my hair back.) It turned out alright, but I really need to do something with it again... Maybe a pro this time?

Yes--I have made the huge mistake of cutting my own hair--but thankfully haven't done that for years. I used to get drunk and high and then think I needed a makover. Unfortunately, I didn't have the skill to undetake it myself! Now, I rely on my good friend and hairdresser, Joel of Isa's Salon in San Francisco to keep me looking my best!

Yes, once and it was a disaster. I did it when I was a high school student.

I went to a barbershop to fix it afterward. The barber asked me why I have bald spots scattered all around.

OMG! yes...lol..when I was 15 or so, Rock-a-billie came back, and my hair was down past my shoulders. I decided I wanted it short, and I took the scissors and whacked it right off and to my surprise, I did a hell of a job. I got all kinds of compliments. But that was the last time I ever did that again.

I don't have any to cut, so I'm going to have to say no.

Never cut your own hair after 3 Martinis.

I do always cut my own hair (usually once a week because that it grows superfast) but also others hair too.

Btw I hate to get my hair cut in barbershops too, usually because that they don't understand how to cut the hair here.

Yes I do every time. I take one of those hair trimmer thingies and cut it down to 2-4mm length.
    Cheap and easy to maintain.

Have done that the last 10-14 years since I was in the army. I like to think about how much money I have saved

Yes, when I was young and foolish.

Funny story - I had long hair all my life. My first year of college, I was so sick of it I asked my roommate to cut it off. She said she had cut hair before...she lied! Over the next two hours we struggled to get it even and I lost a lot of hair. Then a few months later, it was all gone to a pixie cut.

Moral of the Story - Don't let your roommate cut your hair if she has no experience!

I did it when I was a kid - cut my sister's hair, too. Boy, was THAT a mistake O_O .

I'm sure your mother was thrilled.

I always cut my own hair. After a few butcher jobs when I was very young I never let anyone touch my hair. I got so I could cut it, even the back, without using a mirror, I'd done it so many times. Did it all by feel. I'm not a beautician but it looked so good people were always asking me to cut their hair. Now my hair is really long and I only trim the ends. Happy cutting!!

Rain, me too. I got tired of butcher jobs as well. I usually just trim it.

OK the cat's out of the bag, I USE A FLOWBEE! in fact just yesterday. I originally bought it 18 yrs ago to cut my dogs hair. Now my dogs dead I can't justify spending 15 bucks for a hair cut when I can suck it right off the top of my head. I wish all my investments paid off so well. WARNING: Flowbee not to be used by the fashion conscious.

God yes and the results were awful. I used to cut my hair myself when I was really loaded and upset with life.

Thank God for the sake of aesthetics that I found recovery! Ha ha ha ha.

I cut my hair every month by myself with a cutter machine (????). I set it at 2, 3 mm and then gooo in all direction avoiding ears.
In summer I do it outside to not smudge the bathroom.

I cut my own bangs once when I was young. My parents hid the scissors after that. Now I pay very good money to have someone else cut my hair just the way I like it.

I always cut my own hair...have been cutting it myself since I was 14...last time I went to a hairdresser was 5 years ago. I have never had a haircut from someone else that I liked...so I figured that if I'm going to have bad hair, I should at least have it for free! Though I'm usually always happy with my handiwork...it's just the in-between stages that I don't like...
  21. timethief
Yes I have cut my hair on many occasions and it turned out fine.
I prefer to have a stylist do it though.
  22. aircut
You can cut your own hair without mistakes by using the AirCut (www.aircut.com). It comes with stylers that don't fall off and does not attach to a vacuum cleaner, it is self-contained and handheld so you can take it anywhere. Even fits in a suitcase. I am promoting yes, but as they say, I don't just work for the company, I'm also a customer.

I use to cut my own hair now I shave it every day.
  24. dbowles1017
all the time. almost once a week
    1. MissSuzie
Must be tricky trimming around those horns.
    2. dbowles1017
I keep my hair short enough so it's not an issue.

I haven't been to a barber in 35 years; I put one of those depth guards on the clippers and cut it the same all around. And for the last couple of years I just use an electric razor and keep it bald as a cue ball.
  26. alexinabox
Yeah. When I was starting, I thought it was going to look SO sweet. It actually turned out okay, but there were so many bald spots... it was like a little game to find them. I also like that 'super short' feeling of the bald spot. No joke, I touch it when I'm bored...

    Ew.
  27. amybyrd21
NO Never. Give my hubby and son buzz cuts but that is easy, Womens hair is a night mare.
  28. jeremyjanson
Once I tried and it broke the scissors.
  29. drjay1966
Once when I was a kid and had been playing in the woods, there was a burr stuck in it, so I cut it out. My mom was not happy.
  30. Chucklington
I actually tried to shave my head with a disposable razor once. It was a disaster.
  31. ArsenicCookies
I actually just did the other day with a strait razor and it looks fabulous
  32. oreosmom
I don't trust myself, but I do have my boyfriend cut my bangs sometimes. I think it's silly to pay for a ten-second, easy to do haircut!
  33. Theresa111
    Very funny story.
  34. crazyTsu
Just stay on BC and let me get in your hair.. then you will automatically get it all cut
  35. Agit8r
