Traffic to my blog is way down, I seem to have lost my regular readers and commenters and I am contemplating taking a 'vacation' and putting my blog on hiatus for a month, after which I would re-launch the site possibly with a new look and theme and hopefully feeling rested, refreshed and ready to start finding new and more effective ways to draw readers to my content.

Have any of you ever taken a break of this sort? How much time off did you give yourself? Any comments on what worked particularly well or particularly poorly?

I have just about decided that I need to give myself this break, but would be very interested in hearing about anyone else's experience.

I haven't taken a "break," per se, but I did reduce the frequency of my posts for a while (I was just busy with other things.)

I have not taken a break from everyday posts since I started in February but I feel if I took any sort of hiatus it would only hurt me.

I did take a break from beating the dead horse that we will all end up in Work Camp... but now I'm back at it

I have taken a few weeks off, here and there without much of an explanation, but as mine is a personal blog not sure many people cared

I think a good post explaining your reasons for a break and creating some buzz about future developments should be cool.

Over the years I have taken breaks with my blog. I post an entry, explaining I'll be back in a month or so and leave it be.
However, one thing I would suggest is keep active within the blogging community. Still visit other people's blog, drop by here, do things to keep involved.

Whether you blog for business or fun, I think that taking a break is even necessary. It is the opportunity to rest, relax and start to write with more inputs and a renewed enthusiasm. Your readers will wait. It is important that you advise them about your intent.
Ciao and have a nice vacation.

Yep. I've been a little side tracked lately and haven't blogged in a few months.

I haven't written a post on my "main" blog for three months due to other writing commitments mainly but to twist an old French proverb "A blog is a fine servant but a bad master"

The original quote is about wine but government is an adequate fill.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.

Lana-- just wanted to say how much I liked your photographs. I am originally from New Orleans and really miss Louisiana at times

Cooking-- June 1st will be my 2 year blogiversary. And since my traffic and comment participation are already Way down it seems to me this is a good time to take some time away and re-think what I am doing

Claire, Becca-- I think you are right that a good post clearly stating my intentions and attempting to build some advance buzz for the re-launch would be very helpful.

Thanks again to everyone who commented and if anyone has other ideas or suggestions, please post. I am all ears.

Sometimes things drop off for a bit. Request comments for a redesign. Input gets people to come back. Visit a few other blogs. People get tired of the same thing after a while. Redesign and relaunch. Come up with a few different things to do. A week or two is a good amount of time to redesign. Cut back while you look up ways to improve things. Tell people you are reading books on blog design, web writing, etc.

I've got my eye on a new theme wordpress.org/extend/themes/whiteplus and have some ideas about some changes I'd like to make. But I am really wanting to give myself the better part of a month rather than just 2 weeks.
