Okay, I have somehow managed to get myself stuck in a situation usually only found in sitcoms. It's quite silly to those on the outside, but I'm getting desperate!

Somehow I have gotten myself stuck running with my boss after work. I went with her once for political reasons and it has snowballed into part of my job description. She's way too slow for me and wants to gripe about work the entire run. When I run I want to RUN, not talk.

I've tried to speed up, she makes a snide comment. I try to avoid it, she gets pissy. She's annoyed when I run before work (which is at 5am, so only happens on occasion). If I try to talk to her about it, she takes it as a personal attack and either cries or completely shuts down. I don't have any official documentation, but she's a mixture of neurotic, bipolar, and good old fashion CRAZY! Work is her life and somehow running with me has become, literally, her only outlet. But, I have my own life, with family and friends and lots and lots of hobbies, one of which is doing challenging workouts. My time is limited and she's killing a lot of it, any advice on how to get out without making the work atmosphere a nightmare?

Oh that's easy you fake a knee injury then bingo you're out.

Yes, but those heal and unfortunately I don't think I'm winning the lottery any time soon, so she'll want to run again after I "recover"

Not if you say it was a cruciate ligament injury and you can't subject it to the harsh impact of running or you may need an operation.

Can you explain your schedule has shifted in your personal life and you'll no longer be running in the evenings?

I was thinking of "joining" a group that meets after work, so I can't be postworkout sweaty. It would have to be something to do with my son's day care, 'cause otherwise she'd want to join. I mentioned a book club one day and she almost fell over jumping up to say she'd join with me. For cripes sake!

At least you're not being terrorized by the Soup Nazi!

Seriously, make up excuses once a week and then slowly increase to twice a week. Gotta wean her off you.

haha, I'd rather have to deal with the Soup Nazi, at least I'd get soup out of it.

I was really hoping it wouldn't come down to that. I did that at my last job, I'm running out of alias'

hmm....any way we could cause her to have a little accident?
  6. asoothsayer
Hmm...we do cross some mainstreets on our "run" and she was begging for a car to hit her yesterday...
    1. Epicharis
sorted...you just need to give her a nudge/trip her up at the right moment...

I'd tell her than you have to taper your running down to 3 times a week now that the weather's getting nicer. Tell her you want to spend that extra time one on one with your kiddos. Then slow it down to twice a week, then once a week.

Tell her you suddenly had a wake up call about the priorities in your life and you realize that you need to spend more time with your family/son.

That's the problem, she's the boss and we run during work hours (3/4pm)

Ahh, the American way, sue over anything and everything.
    2. Epicharis
yeah, that'll stop it being awkward...
    3. Agit8r
you could get that Johnny Cochrainesque character who represented Cramer to represent you

haha, see what I mean, comedy sitcom. There's no way for it not to be awkward.

it's like you're not taking my suggestion of offing her seriously...

Ask Seinfeld to run with her?
    1. asoothsayer
They could have a race, we'll call in their old high school gym teachers.
    2. harveyavatar
We'd still have to get you out of the episode

    Exactly! On the down low
