I just started this blog recently and it's still kinda having an identity crisis. I know I wanna make money off it but I also want it to be informative, educational, fun, hip, offer lots for readers to look at, and most importantly true to who I am. I dunno how to do this ( I don't want to limit myself and say " ok this blog is about depression" or ADD or politics or art ( all of which I blog bout). I want it to be about all of it. But I have a feeling I won't be able to make alot of money that way. I really need the extra income to help pay my college loans off. I pay 600$ a month! And if I continue like that they say I'll be done finally in 20 ys! Dad can't help after Katrina hit...I even put a donate button on my page! I figure there are some rich kids or parents out there who don't have to think about sacrificing doctors visits and hair cuts just to have gas to get to work and maybe, just maybe, they will drop a 5 my way. So please help me vamp myblog up! I would love to learn from some people who would enjoy helping/teaching me.
Ps I won't be online much this weekend so just know I will respond Monday at the LATEST! Thank you so much!!!

You must have more faith in yourself--create content; anything--talk about what's going on with you right now. Make a type of progress journal for a blog.I would suggest that you seek out a BC user named "timethief" she's like a guru--I used the tips on her wordpress blog and I've gathered a nice readership in just 2 months of blogging. I hope that helps.

I think many people struggle with the same question, here's what it comes down to.
Write what you WANT to write, not what will possibly make money. When you write about what interests you, it will be most likely be written better. A well written blog will bring in more readers than anything else. There are a lot of people out there with many different interests. The hardest part is capturing part of that audience, so make sure when they stop by they want to come back.
IMO, Don't allow blogging to turn into a job unless you really want to take it seriously. It's much easier to get a low paying job that would easily make more money than most blogs. -
If you want to make a bit of money at this, it does help to narrow the focus of your blog to a specific topic. keep in mind that you can have more than one blog - having one blog about art, one about music, one about depression, one about what you did that day, etc... will probably get you more total readers than having just one blog about everything. You want to get repeat visitors, and having a blog entirely about a subject which interests your viewer is a good way to get them coming back for more.
saw your post about wanting to be in the magazine business - your best bet is to try to get an internship at a magazine. This is a very good way to get your foot in the door. -
Choose two topics/subjects of your interest.Topics on which you can write more and better.Start different blogs for both with proper keyword research.Try to include that keyword in blog name/domain name.
Post regularly. After around 10 posts start blog promotion. For more read my blog on blog traffic guide. You can also mail me for any help. -
You should follow intarso and umesh's help. In addition I would say, you can help yourself by actively participating in webmaster, seo etc forums and discussions. Also, why don't you read some e-books. You must learn first then discuss when u face problems or find something difficult to understand. Read more and more.
Here is what I suggest you---

Focus on content. Don't worry about jumping on the latest social networking bandwagon because you'll get stuck with a silly widget *cough Entrecard *cough that doesn't do much for traffic anyway. More widgets means slower loading times. Slow loading times mean users close the page before reading your blog.
