Hi fellow bloggers,
I need some mid-price electric guitar, mainly for blues, but also for a little bit of rock.
Anyway, these are the available (and affordable) options:

$460 Ibanez AS73

$590 Epiphone Dot Archtop

$730 Epiphone Emperor II

$730 Epiphone Sheraton II

$840 Ibanez AS103

Help is appreciated...

Don't just go by the price tag...

BTW, is Fender Squier series good enough?
  2. aningeniousname
Just my personal choice But I would pick a Gibson SG over any of these, and it seems to be in your price range.
    1. urikalish
The cheapest (new) Gibson SG costs $1080 over here...
    2. aningeniousname
Ah that's a shame I was just looking at the prices and they seem to be around 450 pounds.
I wouldn't bother with the fender squires they are a bit crappy and made for home use it's not really a guitar you can gig.
I never had an Ibanez but I hear good things about them they are supposed to be workhorses.
I think they are better on acoustic guitars though.
    3. urikalish
Well, our band only performs at company's events, and the financial recession made these very rare...

      Thanks for the tips

I don't play, or know squat about, guitars. Based purely on aesthetics, and excluding the pricey Gibson, I'd choose the Epiphone Sheraton II.
    1. urikalish
Deep down inside we all know aesthetics is a very important factor...
    2. aningeniousname
I think the emperor is better looking.
    3. urikalish
I also think that the Emperor looks better than the Sheraton.

p.s. I hope the markings on the 1st and 3rd frets won't confuse me, since I'm used to them starting only from the 5th fret.

Ibanez makes some guitars for the money.
    1. urikalish
...and not so much "for the money" guitars (but beautiful):

      $3320 Ibanez GB10
    2. satijournal
I meant to say "good guitars for the money." Doh!

That is a beautiful guitar. Is blues popular in Israel?
    3. urikalish
No, Blues is not very popular over here, but I won't let that get me down...
    4. legbamel
Ooh, if that one were in the running I'd definitely have chosen it. Too bad it's so expensive.

I was just looking around to see what there was in your budget range and came across these.

Never seen them before but they look like very good copies of the Gibson Sg and I haven't read a bad review yet. It might be worth considering one of these. They also do fender copies.

I bought an Ibanez 105 a couple of years ago. I LOVE it, acousticguitarist.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/105.jpg

The only thing is it is a bit heavier than the Gibsons I used to own, it's one of the best guitars I've ever owned. The Ibanez AS103, I played one the other day, it was ok, but it's nothing compared to the one I have, but every guitar has a life of their own. The sunburst Ibanez pictured in this post looks very similar to an Aria my friend Ike Isaacs played when he go older. Why don't you look at the Godins, they look a little different but that's where I'd be looking if I needed a reasonably priced electric.

Unfortunately I'm in transit at the moment and will come back to this later, I fly home tonight

edit:// also the Ibanez are great value for $, but that series is made in China, but still there are some great guitars amongst them

      Thanks for the tips Tony.
      Have a nice flight.

If you don't mind a 12 string you can get the Dean Boca. It retails about $600, but you can get it about half price online. It has a nice les paul body and fantastic sound. I use it myself and recommend it highly.

    $350 below:

When you take a look at the reviews you will see that everyone loves it - This is essentially a 5 star guitar for a mid range price.

You can get it in Black, Amber Sunburst, or Cherry Sunburst.

    LOOOL!!!! nice guitar ^^
    1. urikalish
Actually, I'm not crazy for all that yellow color, but it sounded so much better than all the other guitars at the store that I just had to take her home with me...
    2. siralmo
really i thought it was a nice colour
    3. urikalish
Also, I don't understand why they mark the 1st and 3rd frets and stop at the 15th.
    4. siralmo
i'm not sure where is AG when you need him

Do you have a mic? I have some jam tracks we could use and we could record the lead parts over them using Audacity. We could start a BC virtual band. Any singers out there?
    1. timethief
I love to sing. I'm a mezzo soprano with a 2 octave + range. I particularly like to sing blues and jazz tunes but will sing almost anything. I used to sing gospel music but I don't sing it much these days, except when my relatives badger me into it. acousticguitarist is a tenor.
    2. satijournal
Okay! We have a singer! Come on Urik.
    3. urikalish
      Cool!!!

      p.s. I'm also a fair singer ( www.flix.co.il/tapuz/showVideo.asp?m=1137904 )

If you want to play the blues, you have to pay your dues and play on a ramkiekie like this one:

That's a traditional instrument made from a paraffin can, wood and whatever kind of strings you could find

Your boss would approve the budget...
