BC is going to start sending out a monthly newsletter that highlights great blogs and bloggers that belong to the BC community.

We've been thinking that it may be fun, interesting and a much better newsletter if community members helped select the blog and bloggers.

To do this in a way that doesn't cause chaos we've come up with some rules of the game.

1. Pick one blog you'd like BC to feature in the newsletter.

2. Post the blog url in this thread.

3. Post your write-up about the blog and blogger as if it were going to be copied and pasted into the newsletter.

4. If you post more than once on this thread whether in a comment or a follow up to your original selection or anyone else's selection then your blog pick and write up will not be considered.

5. If you only pick a blog and do not write up the story for the newsletter about the blogger and blog then your pick won't be considered.

6. By the 18th of April we will select the stories that will be featured in the first BC blog of the month newsletter.

7. The BC team will select the blogs to be featured. If the blog you picked is selected you will receive a one year upgraded membership on BC.

The email goes out to over 100,000 people so the blogs selected will receive fantastic exposure.

Can I opt-out of receiving the newsletter? I don't like newsletters...
    1. TonyB
You won't receive it unless you opted in when you signed up to be part of BC. The email only goes to members who want it. If you haven't been receiving emails from us so far then you won't receive this one.

    Can I just...?

or anyone you are following or are friends with.

Most of us follow blogs because we feel the content is high quality. I understand that you don't want it to be a popularity contest, but honestly, some of us follow enough blogs that we would be forced to suggest blogs we don't actually like, read, or recommend.

I immediately thought of a blog I love to bits - but I can't recommend it because I follow it
    1. TonyB
Very true! That rule is eliminated :). The selection process will be based on merit. The blog however cannot be your own.

    Hooray! I nominate:

    Orion Unleashed
    BC profile:
    www.blogcatalog.com/blogs/orion-unleashed.html
    Blog URL:
    orion-unleashed.blogspot.com/

Orion Unleashed provides a biting satirical look at every day life. From brutal political analysis, to taking over the counter cold medication, Orion makes it funny, in a sick and twisted kind of way. You laugh because it's funny, and you laugh because it's true to life.

As long as it's not limited to people who are in the forums all the time. I choose www.peopleinthesun.com/
I think the writing speaks for itself.

That guy can write, and his baby is adorable.
    1. People
Hey, I don't know if I can write, but my baby is adorable. (Thanks).
  6. TonyB
The newsletter will likely feature 8 to 10 blogs and perhaps stories about bloggers who have used their blog to change their lives.
  7. dosox
    Lol.. This is great.
Count me in when you send newsletters.
    1. TonyB

    Blog URL:
    markstoneman.wordpress.com/

markstoneman's personal blog is an excellent example of the wonders of descriptive prose. Commenting on politics, Mark is very matter of fact but, when writing about his day to day life and experiences, he can really put you in the moment with examples of prose at it's best straightforward, honest and extremely well crafted.

Mark succeeds in making writing appear easy. When in fact we know it is not. If you are interested in writing then this is the blog to read to see a writing style to die for. Even if you do have to dig through some stuffy politics every now and again (sorry Mark).

Here is a good example. Starts off very factual then he gets into the groove. markstoneman.wordpress.com/2009/01/20/two-of-two-million/

      @crpitt, you're talking to a fruitcake
    4. fruitcake

    Can you nominate yourself?
    1. TonyB
If you could this thread would have 1,000 nominations by now. The blogs selected will be showcased to over 150,000 people and then be featured on a site called Blog of the Month
    2. Rich
      He means no.
    3. TonyB
Rich, and I thought you were going to nominate CopyWriteInk's blog since its an LLC

I think if BC wanted this at the top of the forum, they know how to make it "sticky" ... I myself don't mind people resurrecting old threads, but just 'bump'ing it just wasted my time to see what was new here (don't like that)

      fyi - i.m.h.o.

      @petlvr
It took me awhile to find it because I didn't bookmark it yesterday but I have now located what I think is a related thread to this one.

BlogCatalog has begun posting blogger spotlight articles on our blog at blog.blogcatalog.com and is also open to guest authors. Jason Tielmman (sp?) is now working with BC Admin as a liason between Admin and the members of the community. Everyone can read about it here.

There are so many fantastic blogs out there... it is hard to pick just one.

Will this be done monthly? The picking?

I hope this goes through, my server has been acting up and quits for no apparent reason.

Understanding the Effects of Unresolved Abandonment…
    Blog url:
    blog.itsallaboutabandonment.com

    His Profile:
    J. Ray Rice is a Doctoral Candidate in the School of Counseling and Social Services with a specialization in Clinical Social Work. He has been studying the affects of unresolved abandonment issues for 36/yrs. To understand behaviors and conflicts one needs to know that...it's all about abandonment. Please take five 1-question surveys, read & comment on the over thirty articles on the subject. Order his latest book Thank You For Loving Me! The Psychology of Abandonment, Healing and Loving and vol. 1 of What I Must Give Myself...First! Learn and enjoy healing!

    My View:
This blog is dedicated to helping those who have suffered abandonment/rejection issues.

Unresolved rejection can be one of the reasons for so many mental and physical disorders. This blog covers many of them; it offers ideas on how to help and what can be done to resolve them.

It also opens eyes to realms of possibility... in reasons that someone may act out aggressively/violently, be too passive/fearful etc..

I highly recommend it; the information available could change someone's life for the better.

    Titled:
The Common Denominators of Unresolved Abandonment Issues and Guns in Mass Murders.

    @TonyB and Jason
I would like to nominate Ann Z's blog for a blogger spotlight article on the BC blog
    www.blogcatalog.com/user/annz

    Little Four Eyes
    littlefoureyes.com
For parents or family of babies, toddlers, and young children with glasses. A place to talk about vision problems and the day to day issues that come up with glasses: the worries, the humor, the questions that go along with placing breakable, expensive equipment on a young child's face. Who does that?

Little Four Eyes is unique and very well received blog. Ann has written a post that she's quite proud of, and rightly so, as it's one of the best articles on the topic on the web. Ann would especially like to see this post promoted as it's a beginner's guide to dealing with finding out that your young child needs glasses.

    (1) When Ann and her husband were going through this with their little daughter, she scoured the web, and found a few pages that gave some tips about getting a child to wear glasses, but they never talked about anything else such as, how to choose the glasses and, how to deal with other people's comments about them.

    (2) Since she began Little Four Eyes Ann has had a lot of parents write to her asking for advice and reassurance, and that led her to the realization that she wanted to have something written to point people to, rather than just typing out a quick email response.

    (3) Ann published her stellar post which is a comprehensive guide for parents with a young child who needs glasses that includes locating a doctor, getting the glasses, getting your child to wear them, as well as, dealing with your feelings and other people's reactions to them here: littlefoureyes.com/2009/03/02/just-starting-out/

Thank you, in advance, for considering this my nomination for featuring Little Four Eyes for a blogger spotlight article.

P.S. As I'm not clear if we are supposed to post these nominations to this thread or to email them to Jason I'm doing both.
