I have a video that I want to upload to You Tube so I can show it on my blog. It is on a DVD and is 230 MB and about 5 min. long. How do I convert it to an acceptable format to upload it? Also, how do I decrease the file size?

Do you mean it is on DVD disc only at this stage, or have you captured it on computer? You know it is 230 mb so maybe you have it on computer already and want to reduce the file size? For youtube, normally you do no have to convert files, they automaticly convert it to flash video for you, when you upload. If your current file size is too big to enable uploading, you can try to edit the video in windows movie maker, (if it's on your copmuter) and split the movie into two parts. That is one way to upload without losing too much quality.

Another way is to convert the file into flash video, before uploading to youtube. There are free programmes to enable flash video convertion, do a search for them, they will be easy to find.

The youtube file upload limit is 1024MB so you do not need to reduce file size. What file format is the video file?

.mov, I think. I need to reduce the time it takes to upload it, so that's why I want to reduce file size. You Tube says it takes 1-10 mins per MB to upload.

cutting unwanted part of the video will also reduce ur file size. You can do that from ur movie maker

try Free studio manager. Has lots of features including a YouTube upload helper that will convert to a YouTube compatible file. Works great and it's free.

The best way is to make the video into two part. Don't worry If they like the first video, people will surely watch the 2nd video too.

Youtube will not accept file larger than 100 mb. You may try to reduce the size by other software but it will never come below 100mb. cos ur is above 200mb. You better do the above suggestion. You can use window movie maker. That's the easiest

For me uploading video thru other software takes longer time, So i always upload directly from youtube itself

Sometimes you can decrease the file size by changing the sound from stereo to
    mono.
