I have a video that I want to upload to You Tube so I can show it on my blog. It is on a DVD and is 230 MB and about 5 min. long. How do I convert it to an acceptable format to upload it? Also, how do I decrease the file size?

Do you mean it is on DVD disc only at this stage, or have you captured it on computer? You know it is 230 mb so maybe you have it on computer already and want to reduce the file size? For youtube, normally you do no have to convert files, they automaticly convert it to flash video for you, when you upload. If your current file size is too big to enable uploading, you can try to edit the video in windows movie maker, (if it's on your copmuter) and split the movie into two parts. That is one way to upload without losing too much quality.
Another way is to convert the file into flash video, before uploading to youtube. There are free programmes to enable flash video convertion, do a search for them, they will be easy to find. -
The youtube file upload limit is 1024MB so you do not need to reduce file size. What file format is the video file?

try Free studio manager. Has lots of features including a YouTube upload helper that will convert to a YouTube compatible file. Works great and it's free.
