Thanks to all who replied to this message posted last March - friend had a major op and thankfully is now on the mend - things are looking really good for him.

Like everyone has said be supportive, spend time with him, keep him laughing. They say laughter is the best medicine. Also, let him know that you are there for him. Friendship can help people get through the toughest times.

let them know how much you value your time with them. Let them know that they are an incredible person that you value being able to spend as much of existence with as you can. How honored you are to have shared this moment in space and time with them. Most importantly, just let them know you are there for them.

be normal. don't totally avoid the topic of cancer, but don't act like it's the only thing either.

so much depends on the person and how that person is tolerating the treatments. i wanted to go out to movies and be with friends doing normal stuff - others want to chill at home.

You will want to be supportive and spend as much time with him as you can. He may not want the main topic of discussion to be about cancer and death. Try to keep the conversation positive, cancer doesn't have to be a death sentence. It is a rough road to recovery but it is easier if you have the support of a friend.

Hi, nothing to do with blogging - but maybe you guys can help - an objective view wanted:

My friend has just found out he has cancer - he may or may not survive the next few weeks - how to help - what to say - any tips appreciated!
