Topics: help with promoting blog
I'm still not getting an answer as to where on the blog catalog I can go to let people know about my new blog. I would like to reach as many people as possible but want to do it the right way. Thanks.

You could try posting a thread (in shameless blog promotion) about your blog. Giving us some information about it and whay we would want to go visit it.
You could also join a group (or a couple or a few groups) that are closely related to your blogs topic.
You could find other blog that are similar to yours and post comments on them sharing your take on their posts.
You could favorite those same blogs from above, thereby announcing to their visitors that you are like minded.
You could identify other bloggers who blog about the same topic you do and friend them. Again signaling your like mindedness to them and those who follow them.
These are all good methods of building a readership in a social setting. Now it isn't going to get your 1,000 new visitors today, but over time it will steadily increase your readership and a reader is worth a few thousand visitors. -
I would add to Dane's list that there is a tab on your dashboard entitled 'broadcasts'.
When you have a new post, you can write a promotional piece about it and 'broadcast' it to your blogcatalog friends. They can comment on your broadcast or follow the link (make sure you include one) directly to your blog and comment there.
I hope that helps!

Just another thought. Tony B. started a food group here with recipes and half-hour meals. You might want to join that group.

Try halfhourmeals.com!

There's some pretty good advice here.
I've been on BlogCatalog for some time now, and have found that it's valuable as a community - as well as a place to promote my posts.
DaneMorgan and MidwestMom in particular had good advice.
One thing, though: BlogCatalog doesn't work miracles. I get a fairly steady trickle of traffic from BC - quite enough to justify my coming here from time to time. But most of my traffic comes from 'organic' search engine hits and referring pages elsewhere.
Your experience may differ, of course.
