So I wrote today about one Christmas song that is about on my last nerve... (you can check it out here, iff'n you need a chuckle: cabbages-n-kings.blogspot.com/2008/12/brenda-got-run-over-by-reindeer.html
)

And my question to you folks is, what holiday song is your least favorite? (And for the sake of balance, do you have one that you really like?)

Oh, and a big hi to Brenda:)
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Heh, I'll send her your regards. I'm sure I'll be hearing her again soon.
  2. joeyblogs
    Ty:)

    Spelling errors above corrected!:
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
It's okay. Happens to all of us.

I'm already tired of hearing the Christmas music that starts in early November and grinds on and on until New Years. It's everywhere and it's annoying. Remarkably I find the most annoying tunes to be the old novelty songs. I particularly tired of hearing Rocking Around the Christmas Tree, Silver Bells, I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus, etc. The classic carols seem to stand up better to constant replaying than the novelty songs do, but I'm already tired of them too. It's too bad that commercialization of the season leads to early start of what is cacophonous overkill. IMO it's a turn off.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
I don't care for "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" either. You're right, maybe it's the novelty aspect of it.

I WOULD like it if anyone could tell me who did this song, to the tune of Little Drummer Boy, about a kid getting a drum for Christmas and driving the neighbors nuts.

I heard it once in passing last year, and it was pretty funny.
    2. timethief
Here are some Christmas songs that I don't care to ever here again:
anything by Alvin and the Chipmunks
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer
      Madonna - Santa Baby
      Christina Aguilera - This Christmas
John Mellencamp - I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
Destiny's Child - Spread a Little Love on Christmas Day
      Last Christmas - Wham!
      Last Christmas - George Michael
Burl Ives - Holly Jolly Christmas
Paul McCartney and Wings – Wonderful Christmastime
      Slade – Merry Christmas Everybody
Do They Know It's Christmas? - Bob Geldof
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
Wham's "Last Christmas"-- yes, that's not a fave of mine, either.
    4. timethief
George Micheal wails it out too - BLECH!
Good grief I just typed "here" in my comment instead of "hear".
    5. lordiwanttobewhole
I agree with your list Timethief....

hearing them over and over is worse than getting a filling at the dentist.
    6. MidwestMom
      Yes, TT!
ANY holiday song is made 10 times more annoying when it comes to you in the horrid tones of singing chipmunks.

In the words of my five-year old,
"Just the thought of those guys gives me a shiver."
    7. lordiwanttobewhole
especially Santa Baby & Last Christmas by George Michael and Mariah Carey Christmas songs

      UGH!
  4. joeyblogs
    I should also have apologized..

Im now trying to think of ThriftsShopRomantics song as well as mine now!!:/

Anywazz. i still can't think of that song, other than it goes something like, la,lalala, lalalala, dadadada dadada dadada ..
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Heh, somethin' like that, I'm sure.
  5. CrotchetyOldMan
I went to youtube and hunted it down. I hate Carol of the Bells. Don't know why, it just annoys me.
I like a lot of novelty songs like Alvin and the Chipmunks, Hippopotamus for Christmas, and Grandma Got Run Over.
I have the Christmas music station on right now, and am bopping to Holly Jolly Christmas.
    Burl Ives Rocks.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
I think we need a video of you bopping to Holly Jolly Christmas, Joe.
    2. timethief
Gawd! That one is on my "never want to hear it again" list.
    3. CrisRo
How can you hate Carol of the Bells?
      I mean really, how?
    4. MidwestMom
      @ChrisRo

Carol of the Bells is like a recipe for progressive insanity. Near the end of that one (when they get *really* loud), I always feel like the singers are about to go postal in the shopping mall. Then their prozac kicks in and they kick it down a notch by the end of the song.
    5. Anok
I love Carol of eh Bells, but t hen, I used to play it. WHen you've had to actually play it, and understand teh complexities o fthe music you tend have a deep appreciation for it.

Or hatred - but it's like a love/hate thing in that regard. You think "Oh God I HATE that song - lemme hear it again....you hear that part? That one!? Yeah, that's pure misery when you haven't tune properly and...that one! That part! Hear that? every try to play that next to an obnoxious trombone player? Have you? It's hell! Just play it one more time will ya?"

    6. MidwestMom
Does my comment make you think I don't appreciate the music?

I appreciate Carol of the Bells...

      when it's over.
  6. aftercancer
That one that is designed to push people to suicide. The one about the shoes that the kid buys for his Mom who is "with Jesus this Christmas". I've successfully blocked the name if not the story.

Joeyblogs - Is the song you're thinking of Deck the halls? The chorus is fa la la la la, la la la la
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
A couple of friends were mentioning that particular one as being a painful, intentionally tear-jerking thing they didn't care for. And no, they didn't say the name of it either.

Edited to add-- my friend says it's "The Christmas Shoes"?
    2. CrotchetyOldMan
Run Rudolph Run is on now. I think I jam out better to that one. If I do a video, that may be my choice.
And here's some odd trivia for you. According to the little blurb thing on the music station, the song that Lucy and Linus bop to on Charlie Brown Christmas is called:
      Lucy and Linus.
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
Actually that whole "A Charlie Brown Christmas" CD is some really decent jazz. That, I've not gotten tired of. I think fondly of it every year.
  7. CrotchetyOldMan
    Yikes!!!

    Notice the three exclamation points!!!

This is terrible. I just heard Rosie O'Donnell sing Silver Bells. I was hoping to be struck deaf. Is that possible?
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Are you asking me to arrange for you to be struck deaf, or are you asking whether it's really possible that Rosie sings?

I don't know the answers to EITHER of those questions, but I just wanted to be clear.

Does she sing with a heavy New York accent?
  8. faithsju243
Come on stop being grinches, you only have to hear this music one time per yr for maybe a little over 30 days non stop in every place you go....what could possibly be wrong with that?

Side note I love Santa Baby and the little Drummer Boy!
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Heh. Well, when ya put it THAT way.... It sounds so enticing! (Erm, still no.)
    2. timethief
I avoid going places where I am forced to hear this music, but thanks for reminding me that I'm tired of hearing "The Little Drummer Boy". I had a co-worker who played that tune so many times that everyone in our office protested and demanded that it be removed from the taped loop.
    3. Sylvia
      Where is the holiday spirit?
    4. LynneaUrania
The songs that I could do without are the ones by Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole.
  9. Sylvia
I'm sorry, I pretty much like them all.

Oh wait..... Adam Sandler's 12 days of Christmas, nope sorry I kinda like that one too.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
See, this is why we need you here, Sylvia-- to de-Grinchify us. Thanks for chiming in!!
    2. Sylvia
Thrift, Time ... come on let's sing a song together

      ready... 1 ... 2 ...and a 3...

      So this is Christmas
      And what have you done
      Another year over
And a new one just begun
      And so this is Christmas
      I hope you have fun
The near and the dear ones
      The old and the young

      A very merry Christmas
      And a happy New Year
      Let's hope it's a good one
      Without any fear

      And so this is Christmas
      And what have you done
      Another year over
And a new one just begun
      And so this is Christmas
      For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones

      A very merry Christmas
      And a happy New Year
      Let's hope it's a good one
      Without any fear
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
I can always get behind that song.

(Waving the lit lighter I don't have and swaying to the music that isn't actually playing... )
    4. Sylvia
      Thrift, my work is done
you have been de-Grinchified... lol I love that word de-grinchified
Can I use it on my husband, I'll pay royalities
    5. ThriftShopRomantic
Absolutely-- and, in case you need it, the process is "De-Grinchification."
    6. LynneaUrania
Grinch...that's a name that I'm tagged with a lot, just because I want nothing to do with Christmas. I have a completely different tradition. But those who tout Christmas don't respect this, and so resort to the sort of name-calling that predisposes other people's attitudes to regard the outsider as "less human" or "evil," all because some people have other languages of spirituality.
  10. Shiley
Sorry guys I love it all! That was the only time my family acted "normal." So, anyone who Grinches out I start after Halloween.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Oh, gosh, Shirley- I don't know how ya do it-- Halloween would be way too early for me.
    2. Shiley
I have over 600 Christmas songs in my media player and there are still some I really want. It used to be after Thanksgiving but it got bumped up with the birth of my kids. The excitement that they have over it is how I am able to tolerate it.
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
Oh I can imagine. Anyone who remembers being a kid knows the terrific anticipation associated with that.
    4. LynneaUrania
What I knew growing up were Decembers of broken dreams and broken limbs, lost love and lost opportunities. Christmas isn't a good thing to everyone.
    5. timethief
      @LynneaUrania
I hear you loud and clear. For many people this is the very worst time of the year. Having people label you a grinch and trying to jolly you along into taking part in something you don't appreciate at all is truly annoying. Worse still is hearing the reason for the season birthday of ... yada, yada, BS. Years ago we got together with some friends in our community and decided to celebrate Winter Solstice. As the years went by and we made new friends they joined in too. We invite everyone who wants to come and we get a huge turnout. It's now a really wonderful celebration with all kinds of great food, camaraderie, music, dance, bonfire on the beach and lantern parade.
  11. Theresa111
Grandma got run over by a reindeer ... because it is so irreverent. I cannot help but wait to hear it every year.

The one that breaks my heart is the song about the little boy wanting to purchase shoes for his dying mother.

I love Jingle Bells, in fact I love all of the songs.
  12. jefftompkins71
Whatever that Paul McCartney song is that goes "Simply having a wonderful Christmas time" or something like that. Playing that song on the radio should be a federal crime.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Oh, that's another of my least faves, yup. They play that one a lot, too. Usually, right after the Wham! song.
    2. legbamel
Ew, a two-fer on the nasty-song-o-meter. I don't mind holiday songs more than, say, 40 years old. If they've lasted that long, they've earned a listen or two. Most newer ones just stink, especially from women who only use one name and hit 17 notes where one would suffice.
  13. acousticguitarist
I don't mind what they play on the radio or in the mall because I can turn it off. It's the tunes in my head I don't like, as soon as I saw this I thought "We're all going on a summer holiday"
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
I've never had any luck in getting the Mall People to turn the music off. Y'know, not after my LAST altercation with those mall security guards and the taser...
    2. acousticguitarist
i mean i can turn it off in my head.

kick the shins and run next time... and as you're running scream "how dare you touch me like that"
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
Good advice! I'll keep that in mind next time.
  14. joeyblogs
I cant think of it..I have this blog with some great song alternatives and some of the best Happy Birthday songs ever!http://songalternatives.blogspot.com
  15. JoelKlebanoff
I grew tired of all of them years ago. Between mid-October and January 2 I wear earplugs whenever I go to a place that might be playing music.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
I was thinking maybe I could try to block them from my brain somehow. That's where they sneak in-- stores.
  16. cranelegs
aftercancer nailed it. the kid buying the red shoes in the window for mommy whose dying already. the first time i heard it, i pulled to the side of the road cause i couldn't drive with the snivelling and tears and all. the second time i heard it i wanted to shoot the radio. they should change the lyrics to mommy's birthday which should be june 25th because that's the furthest day from christmas.

whew ... had to get that off my chest ... thanks jenn!!!
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Ah, I'm so glad you were able to unburden yourself about it, Bob. Not good to keep disliked Christmas songs all bottled up like that.
  17. joeyblogs

  19. loverofjazz
they all stink pretty horribly to me.
yet i still find myself drawn to my local oldies station, which is using an "all-holiday-songs, all-the-time" playlist since thanksgiving.
    am i a masochist?
you haven't lived until you've heard the beatles perform "joy to the world" in an arrangement that sounds suspiciously like their own "please please me".
    it's so bad it's fascinating.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
So no jazz-related holiday classics on your list then? Though I guess Vince Guaraldi's stuff would count there, huh.
  20. jackpayne
    I'll be Home for Christmas.

Worn out. (Where else would you be?)

Mel Torme's The Christmas Song is the true "staple."
    1. melindaville
In a bar. Or a crackhouse, depending on what year it was.

In the past, people--IN THE PAST!
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
*snicker* That's probably not going to get the same sort of airtime, though. "Away in a Crackhouse" doesn't quite have the same ring.
    3. melindaville
LOL--I love that! "Away in a crackhouse". I almost choked on that.
  21. melindaville
I mostly hate all holiday music--my mother would play it during the Holidays to cover up the enormity of my family's dysfunction. I can't really point out just one.

But one I saw TT write was Madonna's "Santa Baby." Yikes and Blech.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Seems a lot of the 80s singers who tried Christmas music are ones folks seem not to like much.
  22. crpitt
All of then depending on the amount of beer I have consumed....
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
I would think the beer might make even the least liked of the carols popular though... PS- Nice hat.
  23. acousticguitarist
Maybe we can do a CD called "the worst of Christmas
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Hm... Did William Shatner do any Christmas songs by any chance?
    2. acousticguitarist
      no but Spokie might've

they won't even have to wear elf ears in the video if they film it on his home planet
  24. Theresa111
TSR ... It's not a Christmas song, but this song is very funny.

    www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ru_FIwX1tb8&eurl=http://thejoyoftoast.blogspot.com/...

Here it is. I laughed out loud.

Had to remove the pic because it led to another site.
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
That's okay, Theresa. It was still funny.
  25. kdawg68
grandma got runover by a reindeer

I don't know...maybe it was funny in 1985. I vaguely remember folks snickering at it around then. But incessant playing - all day long, every year, but every station looking to play an "edgy" carol. ENOUGH!!!!
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
If I hear it once a season, it's snickerworthy. But yes, when it gets played every twenty minutes, it's simply too much.
  26. rmaxwell142
I don't know the name but the song with the line "it's the most wonderful time of year." I cringe when that song comes on...
    1. timethief
I know the one you mean. I'm adding it to my never want to hear it again list, thanks for reminding me ... lol
  27. Arcticulates
I haven't heard many Christmas songs, we don't have a radio station near where we live, and if I want to hear Christmas music, then I would have to dig out all my old, old cd's and I just haven't had the time.

I have never liked: Deck the Halls, Grandma got run over.. So this is Christmas... Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer.

Now... Frosty the Snowman I like best of all!
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
As a kid, I always waited to get to see the Frosty special.

That and the Rudolph special with the Heat Miser and the Snow Miser. I loved their jazzy little musical numbers.
  28. SweetViolet
I like the old Christmas carols but don't care much for the Christmas "songs."

I especially like carols that require intricate four-part harmonies. I was a member of a choir for a number of years and enjoy both singing and listening to choral music, particularly Christmas carols.
    1. timethief
I like the old carols too. I sing in a two groups. One is 4 part harmony and the other is an 8 part harmony choir.
    2. SweetViolet
I love the more complex harmonies. I used to sing in a madrigal group...12 people, 12 different parts, all a capella. It was challenging but great fun. My favourite carol in that group was "Here we come a-wassailing."

My high school choir performed Vivaldi's "Gloria" for one Christmas show. It's been more than 40 years and I can still sing along with it! Fabulous piece of music!
  29. drjay1966
    All of them.
    1. acousticguitarist
awe come on... what about I saw mummy smooching Sandy Claws?
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
Pandas interpret the titles of music slightly differently than humans do.

      It's a little known fact.
  30. Static
    Paul McCartney "Wonderful Christmas Time"

Worst song ever. Kill it with fire!
    1. timethief
      @static
I'm with you. It's already on my "don't care to ever hear it again" list. www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/holiday-songs-youve-had-enough-of#comment...
    2. Static
      Right arm, sister.

Good list, I can't stand this one either:
"Do They Know It's Christmas?" - Bob Geldof
Ugggh, I can't tell you how many times I heard that song since it was released. Just the whole premise of the song, I don't think "They" give a shit it's Christmas in our small part of the world. Horrible memories of the 80's. Blech.
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
We've had a number of votes for McCartney's Wonderful Christmastime as a thoroughly disliked piece. I'm with everyone on that. It's overplayed, too.

Paul could have done better, I think.
    4. Static
He could have done better by shoving knitting needles through my ear drums. =P

Add "Frosty the Snowman" to the list, and it's modern counterpart, "Frosty the Coalman": a new holiday-themed greenwashing campaign By ACCCE
Watch it here (if you like throwing up in your own mouth, and then swallowing it): www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3q6HeImpPs

Frosty the Coal Man, is a jolly happy soul.
He’s abundant here in America and he helps our economy roll.
Frosty the Coal Man, is getting cleaner every day.
He’s affordable and adorable and helps workers keep their pay.

      ACK! Egads!!

They also have versions of "Oh, Holy Night" ("Clean Coal Night"), and "Deck the Halls (with Clean Coal!)."
In the past ACCCE has spread its falsehoods on TV, radio, and in print, often spending millions. Earlier this year, ACCCE’s clean coal campaign reportedly had $50 million to spend on pro-coal, anti-climate initiatives.
Hmm, maybe they should have lent that money to the auto industry?

Their new campaign is certainly something I can say "Bah, Humbug!" to.

      This humbug version is better:
Frosty the Coal Man, is a lying sack of chode.
He’s abundant here in America and he helps our lungs explode.
Frosty the Coal Man, is getting scummier every day.
With mercury emissions, asthma attacks and melting polar ice-caps he does us in faster this way.
    5. Static
Oh yeah, right...to balance out all of my choices, my favorites are:
      Carol of the Bells
      Jingle Bell Rock
      Feliz Navidad
Dominick the Donkey (naturally! =D )
    6. Static
      Hey! Chingedy ching,
      (hee-haw, hee-haw)
      It's Dominick the donkey.
      Chingedy ching,
      (hee-haw, hee-haw)
      The Italian Christmas donkey.
(la la la-la la-la la la la la)
      (la la la-la la-la la-ee-oh-da)

      That song rawks!

I can't stand any of them except drummer boy...Par rum pum pum pum
    www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZvjPCcHI4g

    Little Drummer Boy: Lyrics
Come they told me, pa rum pum pum pum
A new born King to see, pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest gifts we bring, pa rum pum pum pum
To lay before the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

So to honor Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
    When we come.

Little Baby, pa rum pum pum pum
I am a poor boy too, pa rum pum pum pum
I have no gift to bring, pa rum pum pum pum
That's fit to give the King, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Shall I play for you, pa rum pum pum pum,
    On my drum?

Mary nodded, pa rum pum pum pum
The ox and lamb kept time, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my drum for Him, pa rum pum pum pum
I played my best for Him, pa rum pum pum pum,
rum pum pum pum, rum pum pum pum,

Then He smiled at me, pa rum pum pum pum
    Me and my drum.

    Little Drummer Boy – lyrics

That's a lot of "pa rum pum pumming"!
    2. Jeunelle
ROFLMAO I know and I'm getting sick of this one too.
I usually sing it when I've had way too much egg nog under the christmas tree:)

Okay, everyone. To *really* enjoy that song, be sure to drink every time they say "rum".
  33. MadMadMargo
I'm pretty much done with all of them except for John Lennon's "Happy Christmas (War is Over)".
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Now I'm wondering why it is that John Lennon managed to write one most folks continue to enjoy, while McCartney's is largely disliked....

      Interesting.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
OH MY!!!! So our joking about that Worst Of compilation wasn't really that far off, was it?
    2. Jeunelle
@legbamel..I just took a look at the disquis comment box and it has a lot of comments.
Is this your blog and how do you like the plugin in terms of commets?
    3. legbamel
I like having my little shoes pop up, that's for sure. I feel like it gives me an identity when I comment, rather than some anonymous, clickable name. And it lets people see that I don't run around spamming. I can't get the comments on my blog to transfer from Haloscan, though, so I don't use it on my own blog.
    4. Jeunelle
@legbamel..Oh well good to know, seems to be a good plugin.
  34. NikolaAndrea
Oddly enough, I like Christmas music.. in fact, I listen to it all year long, but not the boring stuff. Aly & AJ's christmas album is really good along with the Cheetah Girls.

Aw, come on, Kevin- go easy on us--

not liking particular Christmas songs isn't a slam on Christmas. Pop by my thrifting blog and you'll see the halls being decked and the trees being topped and whatnot.

No need for Devil's Advocate Grinchdom, my friend.

hahah i was out last night enjoying a few cocktails with the girls, and Mariah Carey's "All i want for Xmas" came on. The bartender literally flipped the jukebox off. Everyone started cheering.

I'm still adding to my never want to hear it again list:
    Sleigh Ride – Johnny Mathis
The Man With All the Toys – Beach Boys
    Winter Wonderland – Elvis Presley
Some Day At Christmas – Stevie Wonder
Little Drummer Boy – Bing Crosby & David Bowie (truly creepy)
Jingle Bells - with the barking dogs
Christmas Shoes - New Shoes (bar none, the worst piece of garbage ever)
Little St. Nick - the Beach Boys
    1. MidwestMom
I've got a great one for you, TT. How about Nat King Cole's two worst songs ever...

"I'm the happiest Christmas Tree" (featuring dreaded chipmunk voices) and possibly outdone on the depress-o-meter by the Christmas shoes song but still extremely awful, "The Little Boy that Santa Claus forgot."

On that second one, the lyrics include the words "I'm so sorry for that laddie. He hasn't got a daddy! He's the little boy that Santa Claus forgot!"

Oh, yes. Believe it. It's awful.

I actually don't tire of Christmas songs.

    I know, it's weird, huh?
    1. kevinatserieatalk
      "I know, it's weird, huh?"

nope not at all, it's the over commercialization by our modern marketing gurus who bastardize the songs for profit, this is the real problem.

Like you anok I love hearing Christmas carols and songs, btw satijournal definitely wins the Ebenezer Scrooge award after edging TT out with, "Pretty much all of them" Ba humbug

Little Drummer Boy – Bing Crosby & David Bowie awesome
    2. Anok
That's true, since I don't listen to the radio, or frequent stores/malls that play songs ad naseum, then I will probably not tire of them as easily

I also shave a HUGE assortment of tunes, ranging from Pagan based chants, to traditional Christmas songs, to symphonies, to synthesized stuff to the radio-played rock n' roll type stuff. I like to mix it up a bit
  39. satijournal
Pretty much all of them, although the Vince Guaraldi Charlie Brown Christmas songs still sound good -- probably because you hardly ever hear them.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
I hear them every year because I play it in my car. LOVE "A Charlie Brown Christmas" stuff... Makes me feel about eight years old.

I was going to write a post about how much I hate the song in your post title. I was going to say how I haven't visited your blog in days because I see it every time I view my Live Bookmarks in Firefox. Even coming here and reading your post has caused me to scream. It'll be in my head for the next two hours. I guess you could safely say I hate that song. Please write more posts quickly, so it pushes that one out of the way, OK?

Oh, and satijournal, I listen to the Vince Guaraldi CD every Christmas. Hands down, the best!
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
(shakes head sadly) You are a sensitive flower, dear Kathy. Have some more Christmas brownies.
  41. NatureRemains
I've had just about enough of every Christmas song playing across the air waves. There's something that trivializes the season by having them constantly play. And as someone out shopping store to store--at times I've had to walk out and leave the screaming speakers behind.
Perhaps my feelings reflect the realization that not everyone's taste in music is the same--and music is a VERY powerful inducer of emotion.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
I think it's largely because there's a very finite catalog of it, and a LOT of covers. So you might also hear the same song done multiple times by different artists.
  42. hatingtherain
I pretty much hate all christmas songs, with maybe the possible exception of "white Christmas" by Elvis. "Gloria" especially gets on my nerves. But most songs with that hideous name get to me.And there are many.
  43. sisterofmercy
Mariah bloody Carey, if I hear that song once more I will kill someone!
  44. seanyseany
the "It's beginning to look alot like christmas, everywhere you go!" its on all the time at work and its also on a well known tv advert in britian annoying!!
    1. sisterofmercy
Oh yeah the ASDA one, another reason to find that supermarket annoying..
Though I don't mind that one, the only annoying bit is that you never get to hear the whole of it.
    2. ThriftShopRomantic
I don't know if I've actually heard that one this year yet.

Regarding Mariah Carey, she was overplayed so much when I was back in college, I can really only take her in small doses.
    3. aningeniousname
You are lucky Thrift that Asda (Walmart) ad is played constantly, I have to switch over as soon as I see it come on.

I made a Christmas CD yesterday and I kind of like Christmas music....

    Don't tell anyone.
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
Okay, I won't. So tell me-- what did you put on it? Now you've got me all curious.
    2. pointlessbanter
Oh fun... I wanted to share this but I would get killed if I posted it on my blog.

      Baby Please Come Home- U2
      Merry Christmas Baby- Bruce Springsteen
Little Saint Nick- The Beach Boys
      Blue Christmas- Johnny Cash
      Christmas All Over-Tom Petty
Frosty the Snowman- The Beach Boys
Santa Claus is Coming to Town- Bruce Springsteen
Run Rudolph Run - Chuck Berry
I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus- John Mellencamp
      Christmas Song-Dave Matthews
Happy Xmas (War Is Over)- John Lennon
    3. ThriftShopRomantic
My gawd, under that PointlessBantery exterior, you're actually an ol' softie!

Ya know, you need some Jethro Tull in there. Like "Another Christmas Song."
    4. pointlessbanter
I will never put a band that has a flute player onto a cd.

And I am a big softie... shhhhhh
    5. ThriftShopRomantic
Ah, you're missing out. But thanks for sharing your list.
  46. ThriftShopRomantic
PS- For folks who like the electric guitar, Gary Hoey has some great covers of Christmas tunes. His cover of Grinch is really original. And it's not exactly yer parents' Christmas music.

On my CD as my top five, I would have
Little drummer boy - Bing and Bowie,
I believe in Father Christmas - Greg Lake
    Silent night - Sinead Oconnor
Fairtytale in new York - Kirsty and the Pogues
Aled Jones - Walking in the air

    I would send to oblivion
Cliff Richard - Mistletoe & Wine ...I detest it!
    Wham - last Christmas
    Slade - deep sigh
Wizard - Merry christmas Everybody (although I see him around sometimes and do like his hair)
& any version of Rockin' around the Christmas tree makes me want to puke!
    1. ThriftShopRomantic
There are some songs on there I've never gotten to hear-- thanks for that list!

I just remembered another album with a lot of original Christmas songs on it is Loreena McKennitt's "To Drive the Cold Winter Away"... Lovely stuff. Very Celtic with some Middle-eastern influence. And you never hear it on the radio.
