Home theatre w/ blue ray widescreen and theatre seats beats out movie theatre anyday. I used to work in a movie theatre long ago. I enjoyed movies most when I had the whole theatre to myself. I actually went a whole year once working there where I didn't actually walk into any of the theatres. I just despised it too much.

I don't know. I think they both have their place. Some films, like the new Star Trek movie (which is excellent, btw) is much better in a big theater. However, I just watched a film, "Dear Zachary" (see discussion post about it) which I would not have wanted to watch in a theater.
I think it depends on the nature of film and also my mood.-
I actually tried to see "Dear Zachary" last year at the Gene Siskel theater right after it premiered at Sundance. It played for one night only and was sold out. Now that I finally saw it, I don't know if I would have been comfortable weeping so openly in the theater along with a couple hundred other people.

See, I would not have been comfortable crying as I did in a crowded theater. I also stopped it to play a couple of things back while I was watching it--which I also couldn't have done.
It was a small, intimate film and I think I liked seeing it from my couch at home. I actually just watched it again. And cried again.

Movie theatres obviously show the latest films and screens that just wouldnt fit on any of the walls in my house.
I say that I prefer movie theatres because of the whole experience, however the only thing it doesnt have is a babysitting service - so with that in mind I spend more time at home with the home theatre.
