For the people that host there own Blog; What do you do to keep spam comments down to a minimum?

I was using Wordpress, and I'm now using Drupal be I always seem to get a lot of Spamming comments.

What plug ins/ things are you all doing to keep the spam down?

I am using b2evolution and with an additiona two anti-spam plugins. I don't get any spam anymore. What's more b2evolution's latest version is even stronger against spam, then add the other plugins, voila, problem solved.

I use the Akismet plugin (came with wordpress?) and it seems to be working fine. I was getting so much spam a day now it saves quite a lot of time since I just check the spam box evevery once in a while and it doesn't make much mistakes...

I had my site set up with Akismet, but i was still getting about 50-100 spam comments per day. Maybe I should have checked that I had it set up correctly.

I have Akismet too, I didn't realise I had to activate it with an API key. Once I did that all was fine. What I din't understand - why is it so much easier for spammers to find a wordpress blog?

Actually, it just happens to be that WordPress is the most popular BMS (Blog Management System), as I coined it, so spammers generally optimized their spam-bots for wordpress and well, akismet.

There are also spam-bots designed for b2evolution, we used to get hit by these as heavy as wordpress, but with recent updated to b2evolution (latest v1.10), and the additional anti-spam enhancement plugins, we don't get spam anymore. I haven't received any spam for the past 4 months, unlike before, it is almost everyday that I have to clean up my blog coz of spams, comment-spam and trackback-spam, and I have akismet too.

I can safely say that when it comes to comment-spam and trackback-spam, b2evolution is the most secured today.

Have you had any hands on with Drupal, I know it not a "Blog Management System", but it does handle Blogging very well and to the average reader would be hard to tell that it wasn't. I just wanted to know what the best plug in to use with it would be before my new domain flaggs op with the spammers. As I said i was getting about 50-100 spam comment per day with wordpress on my old domain and I was hopping to get on top of it for my new Drupal site before I start the massive task of have to delete them from my unapproved comments every day.

I used something with Wordpress that asked a math question to solve to enter a comment. My comments disappeared! OMYGOD! Nobody wanted to do math...I don't blame them. I would not want a math quiz to enter a comment. So now I got crap spam every day.

What I do is before I delete each one, I curse them...sort of like the mean gypsy in the "Drag Me To Hell' movie. I curse these unknown entities with a life of misery and misfortune. Won't stop the spam...but I get some satisfaction.
