We have financial problems.

We have global/climate change problems.

Do you remember those times you sat around in a group late one night and solved the world's problems?

Well here we are.

Let's do it on paper/blog post.

Pollution

Here's one suggestion.

Want to reduce pollution?

1. BY local produce.Reduce the 'food miles' ( miles used to transport that item of produce fromthe farm to your kitchen).

2. grow your own 'something'.

I'm not great at growing all the different vegies, but tomatoes 'like' me.

So, this spring , in about 2 weeks when it warms up a little here in Australia, I'm going to plant some tomatoes.

Then we'll have

a) fresh tomatoes for sanga's,
b) tomatoes to make into sauce ( to replace the tom sauce in the bottle),

etc.

What else?

Electricity

Some of you can produce electricity in your own backyards. I can't, the landlord isn't that interested, but you freeholders can.

In Australia, until recently, the Federal Govt was giving a rebate to individual households who installed a solar energy based system that was capable of:

1. providing enough electricity to supply the home's needs, and
2. was able to feed surplus energy back to the grid ( for which they were paid).

The installation cost was an average of AUS$14,000, and the rebate was aus$12,500.

Alternative Energy

There's a lot of scams around about running cars on water, have any of them been proven by acclaim?

In 1980(?, I think it was) here in Sydney, Australia a newspaper published 2 articles about a Mr. Brown, and his invention of running a Ford engine on a test block in his workshop, for the equivalent of 250,000 miles on the result of electrolysis of water.

He claimed 600 miles per gallon of WATER.

He 'disappeared' within the week, but 'browns gas' will still get results on your search enginge.

How can we get the 'real article'?

I had a permit from the relevant motor authority in 1979 to drive my car ( N.S.W., a state of Australia), using a charcoal burner [ subject to a safety inspection by the authority].

It was very popular in the WW II,.

Let's get creative.

Let's give POSITIVE FEEDBACK.

Let's demonstrate our 1000's of years of cleverness, to solve the myriad of issues confronting us.

Let the other sites discuss the present.

Let's put solutions in CONCRETE ( well black and white), HERE.

I guess it's too serious, eh?

    Oh, well, I tried.

Saving the planet starts from our home

I hate it how the world tries to "resolve" these problem by FINDING a new solution instead of solving it.
e.g. "omg, lets find a new planet to like Erath so we can start trashing that place! :D" or "zomg, awesome moonrockz which creates fresh water!!! Lets get those instead of decreasing water pollutionzzz!"

You're right "Saving the planet starts from our home".

We have to realise that we have been taking things for granted and now evaluate or choices in a lot of things.

Do we need that take-away package from the multi-national, or would a bowl of home made beef stew, be more nutritious and lower our dependence on 'industry'.

We might not have any choice in these things as time goes on.

I don't think we can shift the whole population to 'Erath'. It would take more resources than we currently have available.

"Waste Not - Want Not" - my Grandpa drilled that so far into my head I actually feel guilty when I throw anything away, and stand there like a doofus in front of the trash can trying to think if there's just one more possible use for what I'm about to trash. So here's my list of 3 tops "wastes" - tin cans, cardboard boxes and plastic containers - and how to "waste them not"....

    1. Cut the top off those big plastic laundry detergent bottles, wash the bottom really well - makes excellent "catch alls" on your desk, bathroom, or food/water bowls for pets.

    2. All those cardboard containers can be taken in for recycle, check you phone book Yellow Pages for a drop off point in your area.

    3. Tin cans that veggies and stuff come in - carefully smooth the sharp area where you removed the lid with some pliars, wash well, spray paint - and give to the hubby to hold his drill bits or various little tools. Or poke holes in the bottom to make flower pots. Also make excellent outdoor candle holders.

I dunno... them ants are mighty organized little buggers. They might give the roaches a run for their lives.

Yeah, this planet isn't going anywhere because of those "problems". We are.

    (pack your bags!)

That line of yours made me laugh, but it's so true!

start with yourself be an example to others practice what you preach
    1. Jeunelle
      Who the hell does that?...nobody I know...lmao
    2. earthlingorgeous
maybe you don't then don't generalize

I respect your belief maybe you met a lot of wrong people out there but that doesn't mean you have to be rotten yourself.
    3. Jeunelle
I will too generalize since I do as I like.
I am not attacking you...I am just saying I don't know anyone who does that.
      Rotten according to whom?
      Now who is judging?
  8. DaneMorgan
We don't agree on what the problems are let alone trying to agree on what the solutions might be if we could magically reach agreement on root causes.
    1. Jeunelle
Exactly most people today still don't agree we have a problem of global warming. Hopefully I be long gone while they still continue to disagree on the root causes.

i my opinion first we need to educate all the people and bring them a sense about our global problems

    Cool post .,..,

I suppose we can all make a difference some how by hoing green and going electric,. as in cars!
  11. ryam
start using those re-usable grocery bags
  12. fairchildonrage
there are many solutions out there presented to enumerate but the problem is did any of them really worked? unless the society, each themselves would become aware and act responsibly on their own then maybe it would bring about a little good to our planet.

Great discussion. I've recently been in communication with a colleage whom became a client for a website design and marketing package for a television show scheduled for post production and broadcast in January on global warming and climate change, so it's good to see people care about things like this.

    let's switch off

Have bible thought in many schools.

If the idea of an education is to impart and educate a person to being value to society, then why don't we teach the principles and concepts of the bible in school?

It will take a generation or two before things in the world will get better, but I think its worth trying.

    Good to see some response.

It does come down to the individual

We all make decisions daily that can affect the global structure, albeit on a micro level.

Let's focus on things WE CAN DO.

annaswan talked about recycling. ALL of her 3 points were good, relevant and MONEY SAVING.

vikramsra -save water. Yes, how what tips do you have to save water. In Australia, in Qld, we have had the 4 minute shower recommended to us( We're in a drought here).

And a couple of you mentioned 'education', as well as the problem is too big to define.

By the time it is defined, and a 'universal program' developed to 'educate' everyone, we've lost it.

That's what forums like these are for.

Let's throw around our collective knowledge in enumerating things WE CAN DO.

The more of those that we have and the more of us who adopt them, then there is the beginning of a solution.

I read a magazine a lot in the '80's, Mother Earth News, which had a lot of information about 'alternative living (as it was then).

Well it 's time for us to adopt a lot of what they were saying then, make them 'mainstream', and a allow us to survive.
