I have six people in my family and between the cost of gas and groceries money is getting tight. Anyone have any cost cutting ways they can share?

Have faith that ... "This to shall pass." Foresee everything working out for the best. Practice restraint and hold on because the November elections will help bring things back into a more normal range.

We all have to tighten our belts in these difficult times, I have taken to washing out my condoms and reusing them. You can use them about sixteen and a half times I have found, anymore than that is impractical and not very hygienic.

That "half time" would be perfect for a few people I know.

I removed HBO from my satellite TV - an extra $16 a month. I terminated my Verizon cell phone contract and switched to T-Mobile 1,000 minutes for $100 no contract plan. I cancelled my land line phone and signed up with Vonage. I am a coupon maniac at the grocery store. I've started looking in consignment stores for some clothes and other items. It's amazing what you can find there. All these little steps save me about $200 - 300 a month. I'll take it.

If things keep going up. I will have to cancel my internet provider, and go to the local library now and then to add to my blog posts!

I ride the bus all month for less than 20 dollars.
I don't own a car because I'm poor and on disability.
My bike was stolen because we live in such a wonderful neighborhood with all kinds of interesting people. The chances are it was sold for scrap metal...Same thing along the lines of thieves stealing copper wiring, I see that on the news once a week.

We shop specials, which means we tend to eat seasonally. We also shop at the farmer's markets, again, keeping prices down, and giving us food that doesn't go bad so quickly. We shop from a list, and have no brand loyalty. I have one yogurt a day, and buy whatever is on sale. Store brands rock!

Also, we eat a lot of pasta, and use it creatively.

We rarely eat meat, and only order in once a week or less, and then usually use coupons. We brew our own iced tea, and make coffee at home.

I know how some party-sceners are fighting the problem...

I just saw on the news two minutes ago that there's officially a new trend called "Drunkorexia". Women starve themselves before drinking a lot...
It's not new, but I can see how it saves money (No food + Lots of booze = Easy drunk)

I've been making my own moonshine to cut costs and I am considering eating my neighbor's cats.

That would suffice on both the food and alcohol expenses. Not bad. I like your idea the best so far.

I only have one meal a day. Sure works for me as I am broke but now I look anorexic...well not quite yet!
