hi guys,
how big should a blog post be? I think i am writing too much as i have seen that other peoples blog posts are really short-not like mine which are like mini essays. Feel free to check out my blog and tell me if i am writing too much.

It is a good idea to have 400 to 600 words. I try for 400.

      ^ this.

I will stop reading a blog after two sentences if it is not easily readable.

A well written blog can have an article that is pages long and still keep someone's interest.

It depends on the attention span of your target audience.

try not to have a page of text, break it up with blockquotes headers and pictures

If you are looking for a definetive answer, I think the size friday drew out is perfect.

I just published an article on this topic. In a nutshell I believe that anyone who actually does enjoy reading will read any length of post, provided that it’s well written and it holds their interest.

SEO experts say that both extremely short and extremely long web pages are not ranked as highly as pages that are of a reasonable length. No one really knows how many words are “reasonable” l but at least 250 words – 1000 words are recommended.

I do take other factors into consideration when determining post length and you will find them in my article:
Bloggers: How long are your posts?

hats off to you, that's an excellent resource - everyone looking for the answer to this question needs to read it.

yeah, but reading my blog will lower one's intelligence so i guess i should shorten my posts more and more!

If blog posts get too long, I don't read them. I think shorter blogs are much better. Add pictures too. Break up the text. If you have a blog that gets really long, do a series of different posts. Part 1, part 2, etc. I've done that and those series are always popular.

      @ckent27
I agree with you about breaking up the text to create some white space for ease of reading. I do this myself with paragraph breaks and I use images to affect the same end. However, when it comes to reading long posts, provided I'm interested in the subject and the post is well written, I will either read it to the end when I first become aware of it, or I will bookmark it and read it later.

you r welcome dear so happy to know that u r join blogging

It should be around one page or 500 words on an average.
But there can be exceptions in case of some topics.

Ive had subjects that I wanted to talk about at length, but some have only like a paragraph and half, it really depends on how deep into the subject you are.

      I agree.

well my blog is a rant blog and i just talk about things that pee me off which is usually alot, im worried im writing too much!
    1. timethief
If you rant with style and humor then your readers may read them your posts to the very end, even if they are long. Sometimes I have trouble editing my own "precious" words out of a draft. Then I remind myself that that my public blog posts are for my readers, and my private diary/journal blog is for me. That encourages me to edit my posts in my public blogs for brevity so maybe the reminder will work for you too.

It depends on the blog. If you're doing quick pointers to news articles or other stuff, then a few lines may be enough. If you are discussing complicated issues, you may need 500 or 1000 words. Blog posts very rarely go over 1000 words because that's getting into magazine article size. On the web people usually prefer shorter stuff. Most posts are probably between 100 and 250 words -- a paragraph to a page.

Some blogs have a theme and so their post length is fairly consistent. Others vary the topics and formats. I make short posts pointing to cool stuff, but I also write essays, sometimes long ones. The longest items are probably the interviews, which can go over 1000 words if my subject is talkative.

By popular wisdom 300 to 600 words. But the more you have the more search engines like but people may get bored except if you write with style.
