How Can I Improve SEO on my WebComic Blog?

Technically, I've never even heard of the term before, and well... Search Engine Optimization is something I never really thought about when I placed my webcomic onto a blog.
I'm pretty sure a lot of webcomic hosts have great SEO, and blogs are not all that equipped to do that by default. So I need help.
Should I put the comic's script into the image alt tag?
Should I add meta tags?
Should I change my layout entirely because it sucks?
Any and all suggestions are welcome. And because I want to avoid dropping links, you can view my webcomic through my profile.
Thanks a bunch~

Hey Nanaoise,
When you're seriously asking for help with a specific blog, that's one of the occasions I think it's okay to include your link in the message itself. Is the blog you're wanting help with: kurohiko.blogspot.com/ ?
If so, some thoughts:
1) Before doing any SEO, you should take the time to think about what kind will be beneficial to you. Who do you want to find your site? What keywords will they be using to search for what you're offering? Google's Keyword tool can show you which keywords get searched for more often on a monthly basis: adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal
"free manga comic" gets searched for about 2,400 times per month. "manga comic online": 1,000. "manga web comic": 320. Be aware that more popular keywords probably have harder competition, also.
2) Meta tags are always helpful, particularly the description.
3) The alt attribute is meant to be used as a description of the image, in case the image can't be displayed because of server error or the browser the visitor's using. The image title attribute is a good place to include keywords, but keep it relevant, because this text will appear when the visitor hovers the mouse over the image. Including the script of your comic isn't a good idea for either, I don't think, since it's not likely to contain any keywords.
4) Your layout doesn't suck, but it could use some improvements...
- Insert an tag at the top of the page, below the banner, to use as a keyword-rich title.
Make your "Previous" / "Next" links more prominent; I would bet people aren't noticing them and frequently don't make it further than the most recent comic.
Put your feeds & mailing list widgets higher in the sidebar! These are key for getting repeat readers.
Add some more text to these pages. Currently search engines have nothing to go on. Why not write a brief paragraph with your thoughts on the latest comic to each entry? This gives you a chance to give your readers some extra insight into your thought process, and search engines a chance to scan something they understand.
5) Remember that SEO only starts on your own pages; it's much more important to have people linking to you with the keywords you want. Make sure that directories are linking to you with something like "[Comic Title] - [Keywords]" e.g. "Moon & Star Stories - Free Manga Comic Online".
Hope that helps, and good luck! -
