There's various ways but make sure you WANT to keep the .blogspot.com domain name because once you decide you want your own custom domain name, your stats and PR go with it.

i'm not sure pagerank which on the google toolbar is a lagging indicator is the point. try to keep your site's goals on target. always imagine a perfect reader of your site! put what he/she would enjoy on your blog! find like minded people!

Link exchanges can be harmful for your blog. If you put so much links in your blogroll from different categories, search engines will thought your blog is a link farm. Linking to a link farm is also harmful.

If you write good contents, others will sure link to you. Writing much quality contents are the key to increase ranking in google. Be patient because it takes time.

For one thing Blogger templates are set up so Bot's don't read them, you will never see your blog under a google search key words unless you change the coding, TWO get rid of the .blogspot URL It's only ten dollars and it's good for the year with go daddy
here is an example My blog has key words that work well with the small town that gets a lot of visitor's in the summer, Make your titles search friendly My last post was about a bridge and park near my house , Search google browser for stone arch bridges Catskills you will see theres not many, but that's good because when visitors here look for the stone arch bridge they always ad Sullivan county or the Catskills to the search term and I'm right there on the first page, unless of coarse they are just looking for stone arch bridges then I'm back on page 3-4 up against 239,000 results, But defiantly get that meta tag in your code above your title that will help a lot,

I agree to a point. It's okay to buy a domain name from godaddy. But, I'd recommend finding another hosting company. Godaddy has a poor reputation about freezing your URL for spamming. They are very hard to convince that you haven't been doing anything wrong. I heard many many horror stories from both bloggers and regular website owners about their practices.

You can rank with a blogspot URL, in fact it is possible to rank with any given URL that you have. It just takes a different amount of effort with each one.

I have several URL's (some my own and some are clients) that are on their own domains and a few that are subdomains off of others and each do well in their own respective online niche in search engine rankings.

here is a great start for adding meta tags

Use the description and key words user friendly, this I mean And I'm going to use MY sight as an example, mtnsportlive.com here is the way I wrote the description of my meta description tag
"website is filled with experienced information for outdoor sports, New York Catskill Mountains, hiking, skiing, snowmobiling,fishing, activities and recreation, along with Sullivan county ongoing events, Business services for you to find" < Now I played with this many times and when I got to 90+ relevant using a www.domaintools.com I stopped ,
Now for my key words I just added ski, skiing, eastern skiing, New York, NY, ski New York, ski NY, New York ski resorts, snow, snow sports, hiking, Hiking Mountains, holiday, hunter, Windham, Catskills, winter snow park, snowboarding, experience New York, resort, ski resort, Fishing, Boating, canoing, canoe, kayak, snowmobile, snowmobiling, hunting, motorcycles, scenic view, scenic roads,campsites, campground, Sullivan County,Sullivan County campgrounds,Catskill Mountain campsites, RV Trailers, RV campers, sales and service in Sullivan county,service, free classified ads, free, camping ideas, tips, automotive, motorcycles, repair, campers, trailers

DON'T OVER STUFF KEY WORDS ,
only duplicate the key words when using phrase ,
but do notice the way I got catskill mountain this works ,

For example if I where from New jersey and I wanted to camp for the weekend in the Catskills,
I think I would search: "Find Campground in Catskills Sullivan county" seems simple but yet descriptive in where I want to go.

Now being my description and My key words match I have a good chance of being right there on the 1- 3 pages of google. (which today is the main search option many use) , as far as Yahoo I make sure I have links in all my videos and yahoo answers and take pert in many discussions like this, It helps

I could go on and on! but I think you get the idea.

I'll be back to tell more of what works for me! My main site is down but I will explain the way I combined the two and that helped also, my main gallery's are hosted there along with video , I do this because many readers of blogs may not have cable broadband and this helps

Also for those who are ready to buy a domain name, look around for 1.99 from yahoo. It's out there, and as long as you have any kind of yahoo stuff you can sign up (mybloglog, email, messenger) I ended up using my account, my mothers, my uncles, my grandfathers-so I could get 4 domains a week ago.

All I can say is patientce and write quality content.

1. Change your blogspot to .com or whatever. Reason read it from this article

2. Write quality content regularly and create a nice design with all the SEO techniques. First try to understand how the new SEO standards and META tags are almost outdated.

3. Digg and stumble it. If possible try to extend your network in facebook, orkut etc. Initially you will not get targetted traffic and going forward you can make real regular readers and fans.

4. Write valuable comments in Tops blogs. I mean blogs with higher page ranks related to your niche.

5. Never participate in link exchanges, link farming and other cloacking technologies.

6. Join popular forums like digitalpoint, and some seo blogs etc and try to interact with people and listen to their words.

7. Write some articles and submit to ezine, dmoz etc. If you cannot hire somebody to do the job. You can find some quality writters in digitalpoint forums and some other renowned sites

olha é muito complicado subir o pagerank, pois muita gente cai na tentação de começar a trocar links de qualquer maneira: grande desastre. porque? links são bons, quando, são de qualidade. não te interessa nada trocar links com um site de porcaria ou que o google até tenha penalizado, ai, o teu tb vai abaixo. tens que ter muita atenção com: o teu conteudo, os teus links para fora, mais nada. há blogues e sites que não tem nenhum link de outros sites, e, sobem bem e tem um bom page rank. dou muitos dos meus sites como exemplo. nunca troco links, a não ser que sejam links de qualidade, e nunca faço links de outros sites no meu site, a não ser que sejam de qualidade, e, tb há que ter muita atenção com a inserção do site em directorias que estão penalizadas pelo google. a chave mestra de ter visitantes é: conteudo, escreve boas páginas que interesses os visitantes, dá assuntos, conteúdo, e, pronto é isso. boa sorte.

Original, great content. Your PR is 100% based on incoming links. If you content is good people will link to you. Don't bother with link exchanges and tiny directories! The better quality incoming links the better! For example, having a link coming from Google (PR 9 or 10 depending on the day) is worth tens of thousands of PR 2.

Write good articles and the PR will go up as you are linked to!

I agree with most of the comments here regarding changing the domain name, try to get out of the blogspot url, find a unique domain name, and start from there.

Identify your niche market, who are your prospective visitors, where you can find them, then go for it, whether you can meet them at related forums and blogs, post your comments, get known.

I forgot the most important thing, try to focus on the content, write about what you are the best at, don't pay much attention to page rank at least in the time being, that's what i was advised with as well, just write a good copy for your blog, reflect what you like through your lines.

I think it would be so long if i explained it all right here, i will post an article later on my blog which i hope to cover all the points to start writing effectively and how to add value to your blog.

The page rank thing is still somewhat of a mystery to me. A popular site with a spin on the "make money online" concept had its page rank busted down from 2 to 0. My previous blog, portabalooza.com, has a page rank of 4 and it only gets around 200 visits per month!
