I suggest to do socially bookmark your site at Digg, Stumbleupon, Technorati, Twitter, Del.icous and more to have some decent visitors to your site and try to make a lens on squidoo and a Hub.. Try to put a comment on your neighbors I mean same blog theme and register to some related forum to have an authority back links ang to have a page rank. when you do all that your site will be visible to the whole world of course through search engines and organic traffic..

The pros seem to farm out their own mini-sites and pages in other sites to draw more traffic to their main site. Making little auto-blogs, Squidoo pages, submitting articles to several free article websites.
At my level of experience doing that to the fullest seems a bit daunting, but it looks very effective.
Think of your main website as a tree, and the mini-sites as roots. If the tree gets longer, more numerous roots, it will be able to get a hold of more water and soil to grow.

I'm no expert, neither do I have an uber-popular blog, but if it were as easy as 1-2-3 every tom dick and harry would have a popular blog.
However,for a start you can
1. Make contacts on BC,join groups and leave your link wherever relevant.
2. Comment on blogs with similar niche as yours, invite them to carry on the discussions on your blog too, build readership that way
3. Post Good quality content. You don't have to post everyday. -

I suggest you visit forums to find more "problems => solutions" and write the topics on those issues, because people will as Google!
When Google see those question, and your blog has the "keywords", it will redirect the traffic to your blog.

On our site we offer incentives that have caught fire like offering registered users the ability to make some cash.
We also allow those that register a chance to promote their own content on our "dofollow" blog. -

I have found that it is not easy to generate traffic. I have to work really hard to get visitors and my count is only around 215 a day.
-

bohemian there is a whole collection of sites, that are supposed to help you do that. How much actual good information they give is debatable, But I would start by subscribing to sites like doshdosh.com problogger.com thoushallblog.com and ones like that, my site mastersofseo.com has a similar goal, but mine isn't nearly as popular as those earlier ones. They should give you some helpful information.

@bohemian
One thread on any subject is enough. Starting 2 is not necessary. Please see my reply to you in the other thread www.blogcatalog.com/discuss/entry/how-can-i-triple-my-adsense-instantly#com... -
Ok - so are you saying that the bast way is to join networks? If not, what is the absolute best way to build traffic?

There is no single answer because each blogger has different skills and each blog is different. If you click on the link I provide below you will find 18 - 20 points that answer your question. onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/09/24/how-to-make-money-by-blogging/
In order to give a specific answer to any individual blogger about how to increase traffic to a specific blog with the aim of increasing income, one would have to do a thorough review of the blog, determine what expertise and skill sets the blogger has or lacks, ascertain whether the blogger can actually write, ascertain whether or not the blog is set up properly for SEO, and determine what they have already done to establish organic traffic. It also takes money to make money so another important thing to ascertain is how much the blogger is willing to invest into their blog in order to make an income from their blog.

I found this article yesterday on submitting to blog directories. It gives you a list of 20 which is a great starting point.
Hope it helps.

Stumble Upon works well but you cannot just add every post from your blog in the community. Add best articles from your blog in Stumble and ask your friends to vote for you too.
Write regular articles and ask your friends to comment on them, this way new visitors will feel that you're articles are important because there are some comments on it.
To increase more page views and repeated visitors, read this article: How to increase page views and capture the first time visitors - blogkori.com/2008/11/how-to-increase-page-views-and-capture.html
You can't just depend on one traffic source. Use technorati tags to get some technorati traffic. Try some link and technorati fave exchange to increase your authority.
Use delicious bookmarks if you're blogging about techno topics.
Use facebook promotion if you are blogging about general topic.
Build a network of helpful friends and connect with lots of people(not just adding friends)
I hope this will help.-
The only things that have really helped me to increase my traffic is
1. visiting other blogs and comment, commenting is the key comment on as many blogs of the same topic as yours as possible. Make sure your comments are meaningful and not "spammy" You want to sound like you have some authority in your niche.
2. Network with other bloggers on sites like this one. I've also had success with Spicy Page www.spicypage.com
and fuel my blog www.fuelmyblog.com make sure your friends are visiting those sites and voting for your blog.
3. Add a meme to your blog. Meme's are fun and they will help increase your readers.
I hope this helps!

Here's one way to do it.
1. Buy the futuristicafrica.com domain.
2. Create 5-10 high-quality posts that people will want to talk about and link to. Or create a tool or resource (like a chart or a directory) that they'll share.
3. Use Twitter, StumbleUpon, BlogCatalog ... and maybe Digg/Delicious/Mixx ... to share your posts with people who may like them.
4. Expect to wait at least 3-6 months to get to your traffic goal.
Would love to chat with you personally to give you more advice if you like. Best wishes with it Samuel! -

There are lots of tips and blogs on generating traffic.
But I guess one has to bear the first three months to see them mature.
The most important is repeat traffic and that can only be cause by good quality content.
This is mor eimportant than content volume.
I have a blog which has just started to look up in terms of traffic.
Hope traffic increases more in the months to come.

It's not as easy as 1,2,3. It takes time and work to increase traffic at a blog.
If you are using Firefox you can get a Share This toolbar that helps you Digg and Stumble your articles.
And while you don't have to post every day, it certainly doesn't hurt. I have regular readers now who expect a new post 6 days a week. We have great discussions and it has helped traffic.
I could make more suggestions if I used blogspot but I don't, so I don't know about plugin and such for blogspot. -
Get backlinks! Thats good in the long run.
