I've heard this over an over, however I can't see any reasonable use for Twitter strictly as a blog accessory.

I think its a good idea to place a feed of your latest tweets on your blog for the sake of new content, especially if your not part of the '2 posts a day crew'

I also recommend tweeting your most recent post to your followers.

OK but all that aside.. what am I missing? Where is the magic micro-blogging jelly bean that I can eat and magically bring hoards of young coders to my blog?

Not bad at all - with a little footwork this can really help build my readership, can do stuff like search for #webdesign #programming and check out all the questions or chatter

This is a really great idea, I appreciate it.

I use tweetfeed to track #counselling and offer help to those suffering in the world...

Okay I don't really, I use it find other counsellors, people studying counselling/psychology etc and have found some really useful contacts.

Somehow I think the update of posts written in twitter gets search engine optimised in some ways. It does get exposure and significance when there is an accumulation of readers clicking on them.

The latest twitfeed gets listed in BC profile as well. Easy for friends to track down the posts.

The way I see it: Get-Rich-Quick schemes don't work - and neither do any sort of "magic micro-blogging jelly bean."

On the other hand, I've started getting a (small) percentage of my total visits from Twitter - it's running about as well as BlogCatalog right now, in terms of being directly responsible for visits.

I run maybe a dozen or so Twitters a day: many of them along the "what are you doing" line. For one blog, apatheticlemming.blogspot.com/ , I do one Twitter a day, summarizing the day's posts. I'll also do a Twitter for a particular post in any blog, if I think it's important and/or interesting enough to warrant it.

I don't expect 'magic' results - but I do think that Twitter, like BlogCatalog, is a good online community (I've met some BlogCatalogers there). I'm there for social purposes, to help keep me on-task, for 'networking,' and for the visits.

And, more often than I thought would happen, I get leads for blog posts on Twitter - which I'm careful to acknowledge.
