How did you meet your pet?

I was cleaning out the old hard drive in preparation for my new computer and stumbled across the tale of how I met my now pooch. When I realized it hadn't been re-published ( I took it down initially due to the pit haters) I had to repost it.

So how did you find your pet?
Did it find you?
Has owning a pet changed your perspective on anything?

You know, I was thinking about all your pit bull knowledge the other day, and how much you helped me better understand where my neighbor had gone wrong with his former fighting dog. Which I very much appreciate.
That said, I hope to find out soon what pet I'll meet-- as I plan to get a kitten or cat from a local no-kill shelter. I've never had the opportunity to have an actual pet before, if you can believe it...
Well, goldfish, which weren't really big on curling up and reading a book with me.
So I'm really looking forward to this. -
After school on the 24th of September, it was a friday after school, and my dad was like oh let's have a look a quick look at the pound on the way home, because we had been looking around at the different pounds. and when we got there, The man was holding a puppy inside, and i just thought it was a random puppy, and I ran over to it as it was really cute, and I do that with all puppies, and I asked "can I pet it?" and then he was like "of course, It's yours" and I started crying, even though it pee'd on me.
It was the cutest puppy I'd ever seen, and still is to me
here's a picture of her, her names Jessy

I did a post in September how I got two of the three cats I have now. I had just lost a very special pet and was not in the mood to get any at the moment. It was called Are You Insane?! I was dragged down to the pound and met two of the most horrendous animals I've ever seen. Yeah, I ended up with them somehow. They're the best.

I had to force myself to read your post. That is horrifying what that dog went through. Truly horrifying. You are a beautiful person for putting aside any pre conceved ideas you had and saving the life of a magnificent dog.
Yeah, you brought tears to a grown man. You should be ashamed

I don't have any pets (thank God.) The closest thing I have to a pet is my dad's Evil Papillon Kujo. I call him "Fluffy".
This dog bites me every chance he gets. He even ate my laptop adapter cord, and it cost 90 bucks for a new one. And the new one's "universal", which is technical talk for "piece of crap". -

All of mine have been free to good home. I rescue dogs that have been dropped but they usually dont stay long. I make them better and rehome them. I was given two poms from hubb'y aunt as she is getting out of the breeding buisness. I got the pyrennese from my brother in law for my then 2 year old son. We asked him to name him and my son said handme and it stuck. I had a dog with one eye but some one stole him. He was a forever home rescue. I couldnt get rid of him because he was very shy and would not fight for his food. I had to hand feed him everyday and was afraid some one else wouldnt do that.

What an awesome story about your dog. You are a special person; I don't know if I would have had the courage.
Our three cats found us. First a mom and her kitten over 12 years ago (they are both old ladies now). Six years ago our dry-wall shredding, furniture scratching, will only drink out of a bottle given by hand, gorgeous, Mr. Personality cat wandered into the yard. Love them all, but NO MORE CATS! -
My wife, Kat, and I picked our cat, Figgy, or actually he picked us out at an animal shelter. Our other cat, Kickin, showed up in our front yard on a very cold winter evening and we took him in with the intent to find him a home. My Kat and my cats have made my home a more exciting and comfortable house to live in.

one of my cats was the baby of a stray a neighbor took in & i brought home when she was very tiny so the neighbors wouldn't take her to a shelter... the other i adpoted from a local shelter - she'd been locked in a cage and then someone threw the cage out of a car into a creek on the side of a highway... someone found her when they pulled off to fix a flat tire & brought her to the shelter... they've both forgotten their humble beginnings & now think they're people...
