How do I create a blog "button" with code that readers can copy/paste?

I'm not quite sure how to explain what I'm looking for ... on my blog, I have two "buttons" on my side bar - one for "secret is in the sauce" and the other for "blog around the world."
I got these two "buttons" because those particular web sites had them on their side bar with accompanying code directly beneath them. All I had to do was click on the code which highlighted the entire code and then copy/paste it into my own sidebar (using a text widget) - the "button" then appeared on my side bar and is linked to the respective site.
How can I do this for my own blog? I'd like to have my own button in my own side bar, with code underneath it, so that readers can just copy/paste that code into their own blog if they wish? And have it link back to my blog?
I can design the graphic in photoshop ... I'm just clueless when it comes to what code to use (I don't know the first thing about code) and then how to get the code to appear below the button.
Does this make any sense?
