well this one is a bit better, has a page rank of 2 though which is better than mine but still kind of low don't you think..
Plus they got just over 50 external links..which is not bad...
now the next question is how do I go about getting the back link? how does it work? do i add their website name somewhere and vice versa??? -
Ah Hah! good question..

Most are useless. You have to worship the internet gurus to get worthy backlinks

I have over 6,000 for one of my blogs. It still gets very little traffic. Don't ask me why. Some sites have hardly any and get loads of traffic. I guess maybe backlinks are not that important in rankings as they once were.

A very good friend of mine has a good rating and a link to my site
www.orientexpat.com/
But I guess one is not enough...

Backlinks are incoming links to a website. A backlink is created when another site or a blog links back to your site, and the value of that backlink is related to the PR ( PageRank) of the site linking back to yours. A site with a lot of backlinks implies that many other sites link to that site.

There are many strategies used to get backlinks. The best of all is to publish and promote high quality posts with unique content. Provided you have used basic SEO and been effective in promoting your posts then other bloggers will locate your posts and link to them in posts of their own.

Another strategy is to write and submit articles to ezine sites sites because every time one of your articles is used a backlink will be generated.

Joining social networks and registering your blog with selected Directories can also result in targeted traffic to your site. In that way more of your fellow bloggers become aware of your posts and may backlink to them in posts of their own.

I just checked my one blog and it seems that I have 85 backlinks .. which I am rather happy with as most of them are a page rank of 5. I do agree that you want decent PR rated sites to link back to your blog but the way I see it, advertising is advertising. I have some that have a PR of zero but the fact that I can find them online with my address right there for anyone to see, makes me pretty darned happy
best of luck,

@alen4ik2003 in answer to both your questions - firstly the way Google views a link is to check with the link as a "No Follow" assigned to it and if it does then they will ignore this for Pagerank purposes. Most blogs that have a "DO Follow" blog with advertising this somewhere on them.
On your second question - this depends, I am not so bothered about the Google Pagerank (PR) in itself, becuase it is meaningless and you need to decide why you are getting links, is it for traffic or purely to increase your PR?
My site did have a PR of 3 a few months back and after changing the theme I lost it, but that does not matter, what is more important is that my Alexa Rank is now much higher than it was then and is now around 400k and getting better all the time - this to me is a much better gage of a websites popularity and likelyhoood of you getting more traffic. Hope this helps

I have the same question as yours. But how can I informed him or her that
I want to exchange link with him or her? Please -
BTW ... Just visited your site.. there is something wrong with it.. it loaded pretty slowly and killed my browser.... there seems to be something crazy going on with scripts on your page
and having dashes as such "my-bits-n-pieces" is bad for SEO -
Analysis and Recommendations
TOTAL_HTML - Congratulations, the total number of HTML files on this page (including the main HTML file) is 1 which most browsers can multithread. Minimizing HTTP requests is key for web site optimization. Y
TOTAL_OBJECTS - Warning! The total number of objects on this page is 60 which by their number will dominate web page delay. Consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Above 20 objects per page the overhead from dealing with the actual objects (description time and wait time) accounts for more than 80% of whole page latency. See Figure II-3: Relative distribution of latency components showing that object overhead dominates web page latency in Website Optimization Secrets for more details on how object overhead dominates web page latency. Combine, refine, and optimize your external objects. Replace graphic rollovers with CSS rollovers to speed display and minimize HTTP requests. Consider using CSS sprites to help consolidate decorative images. Using CSS techniques such as colored backgrounds, borders, or spacing instead of graphic techniques can reduce HTTP requests. Replace graphic text headers with CSS text headers to further reduce HTTP requests. Finally, consider optimizing parallel downloads by using different hostnames or a CDN to reduce object overhead.
TOTAL_IMAGES - Warning! The total number of images on this page is 42 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Recommend combining, replacing, and optimizing your graphics. Replace graphic rollover menus with CSS rollover menus to speed display and minimize HTTP requests. Consider using CSS sprites to help consolidate decorative images. Use CSS techniques such as colored backgrounds, borders, or spacing instead of graphic techniques to reduce HTTP requests. Replace graphic text headers with CSS text headers to further reduce HTTP requests. Finally, consider optimizing parallel downloads by using different hostnames to reduce object overhead.
TOTAL_CSS - Caution. The total number of external CSS files on this page is 3 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Because external CSS files must be in the HEAD of your HTML document, they must load first before any BODY content displays. Although they are cached upon subsequent requests, CSS files slow down the initial display of your page. Combine, refine, and optimize your external CSS files. Ideally you should have one (or even embed CSS for high-traffic pages) on your pages. You can optimize CSS files using shorthand properties, grouping, and then minify and GZIP compress them to reduce their footprint. Remember to place CSS files in the HEAD and JavaScript files at the end of the BODY to enable progressive display.
TOTAL_MULTIM - Congratulations, the total number of external multimedia files on this page is 1 .
TOTAL_SIZE - Warning! The total size of this page is 678179 bytes, which will load in 147.16 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 100K to achieve sub 20 second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback. Consider optimizing your site with Website Optimization Secrets, Speed Up Your Site or contacting us about our optimization services.
TOTAL_SCRIPT - Warning! The total number of external script files on this page is 12 , consider reducing this to a more reasonable number. Combine, refactor, and minify to optimize your JavaScript files. Ideally you should have one (or even embed scripts for high-traffic pages) on your pages. Consider suturing JavaScript files together at the server to minimize HTTP requests. Placing external JavaScript files at the bottom of your BODY, and CSS files in the HEAD enables progressive display in XHTML web pages.
HTML_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of this HTML file is 22849 bytes, which less than 50K. Assuming that you specify the HEIGHT and WIDTH of your images, this size allows your HTML to display content in under 10 seconds, the average time users are willing to wait for a page to display without feedback.
IMAGES_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your images is 160168 bytes, which is over 100K. Consider switch graphic formats to achive smaller file sizes (from JPEG to PNG for example). Finally, substitute CSS techniques for graphics techniques to create colored borders, backgrounds, and spacing.
SCRIPT_SIZE - Warning! The total size of external your scripts is 250787 bytes, which is over 20K. Consider optimizing your JavaScript for size, combining them, and using HTTP compression where appropriate for any scripts placed in the HEAD of your documents. You can substitute CSS menus for JavaScript-based menus to minimize or even eliminate the use of JavaScript.
CSS_SIZE - Caution. The total size of your external CSS is 8221 bytes, which is above 8K and less than 20K. For external files, ideally keep them less than 1160 bytes to fit within one higher-speed TCP-IP packet (or an approximate multiple thereof). Consider optimizing your CSS and eliminating features to reduce this to a more reasonable size.
MULTIM_SIZE - Warning! The total size of your external multimedia is 236154 bytes, which is over 30K. Consider optimizing your multimedia files for size, or replacing them with lower-bandwidth alternatives, or eliminating them altogether. -

The best way to get back-links is to post comments on other people's blogs. When you post a comment, it usually asks for your "website" and by entering that in, it serves as a back-link. If you are asked to do a guest post as well, that's also helpful because in the post you can provide a link to your website. It's all about how active you are. The more you participate in what others are doing, the better your chance for back-links.

Yes. You have to use ALT tags on your pictures. Most search engines, including Google, look at your ALT tags when indexing your Web page. For many sites, particularly image-heavy sites, ALT text is one of the few elements available for the search engines to index. If your page has no text at all on it, it can still get a high search engine placement by using ALT text.
See this tutorial here on how you can use ALT: www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/html/alt.html
By the way, this is a good topic for a blog post. Thanx for the idea.
