While I like writing my blog, I really don't know jack squat about getting readers. I've had some luck with alphainventions, condron, and some ping services over time. ALso commenting on blogs has helped some, but I feel like there must be more efficient ways to generate interest.
I'd appreciate hearing about how others attract readers to their blog.

If you just need traffic you can make use of some traffic exchanging websites like easyhits4u . Note that using such sites are against google adsense policies.
If you want genuine users to your blog, then i suggest you to make use of many social networking websites like twitter, facebook, orkut etc.Dont just go there and spam everywhere.Make many friends, appreciate your friends' blogs, photos and posts, also ask your friends to share your blog links with their other friends too.
If you want to make a blog a big success then you must attract traffic from search engines.
i have found 2 articles on how to attract search engine traffic, which i have posted here,if you want you can go n check them

I tend to just visit other people's sites, follow a lot of people, and make sure that my blog is the best it can be. Those traffic sites tend to get a lot of people that just want you to visit their blog afterwards.
Of course, so far the biggest publicity I have found is posting facebook status updates whenever I put up a new post. The people who check from facebook tend to be those who are going to become interested and actually care. -
You know, if I had to choose one thing that has helped most in attracting readers to my blogs, I would say it's been TIME.
It takes time for folks to get to know you and get curious about your blogs.
It takes time for Google to really index your site.
It takes time to get good search engine placement.
And time for you to find bloggers with similar interests.
Even though being consistent by creating new material takes a lot of energy, hanging in there and continuing blogging makes the greatest difference in growing that audience. -
I offer first time visitors vodka. Of course, they don't know that their vodka has been laced with hallucinogens but then, I do so love the surprise element.

Wow! This is the first time I have ever had my comment deleted. It wasn't even my link that I was dropping. All right, I guess I will leave off the ".com" part. I had just said to try Entrecard to attract readers. It is an interesting blogging community where you can earn credits for advertising. I guess you will have to google it to find out more.
I have just joined and so far I have seen an increase in visitors. Granted some don't stick around but I have found a few that do and have even followed my blog.

I find topics that are controversial (or have the potential to be) and then write about them or I review things like music, movies, books, even world news (this one seems to be a favorite).
In fact, I have been doing so well that I am now starting to attract my own cult following of spammers who like to post comments on my blog with their businesses and pretend that their comments are valid towards the actual content of the article.
It is truly gratifying let me tell you!
Seriously, just write about whatever you feel like, get a little SEO happening and post to your friends blogs. You can also make link swap deals with your friends on their blogs. I get about 300 hits a day just from one of my buddies blogs alone and I swap back fresh traffic to him in return.
Cheers,
Michael
