It's that time of year when everyone regardless of ethnicity, nationality or race celebrates the Irish. Chicago is HUGE on St. Patrick's Day. We dye the river green (and it stays that color the rest of the year). We have two parades. We have the "good behavior" Irish parade and then we have the South Side Irish Parade, otherwise known as the biggest drunken celebration of the year.

I have spent the past four St. Patrick's Days up at 7, drinking by 9 and happily drunk by noon. Can't say I am proud of my behavior, but it was darn fun.

How do you celebrate St. Patrick's Day? Are you well behaved? Are you naughty? Do you buy a Shamrock shake and call it a day? Do you cook a big Irish American meal of Corned Beef and Cabbage?

You don't have to be Irish to celebrate St. Patrick's Day!

    No one celebrates?

I'm afraid I don't. The idea of eating corned beef and drinking green beer sound like a pretty paltry way to identify with any ideal.

Is everyone at church today? Anok? GTally?
    1. dosox
      LOL they are busy
    2. busylizzy
Hi, Dosox! Not much of an Irish population in India?

Sorry sorry sorry. I missed this thread earlier. Ummm...I'll probably wear green and have a Fat Tire Pale Ale or something. I guess I don't really give St. Paddy's Day a lot of thought. Colorado's big drinking fests are in September, with Oktoberfest and the wine festivals. Nothing to rival Chicago, tho'.

Alcohol relapse day! I will pass it through my kidneys

How about "Give your liver a workout day?"

You should resize your image down to 400 width. What is that?

XO cognac. Something to enjoy everyday.

I will put the width=400 next time

Many elementary school children wear green clothes and use temporary hair spray that is dyed bright green. Green snacks or desserts. Sometime we have corned beef and cabbage for dinner. I believe there is a parade in Philadelphia.

I remember wearing green clothes to school and wearing "kiss me I'm irish buttons" By the way, I am Korean!
    2. busylizzy
You did this in Korea? I am so ignorant. I would love to hear from countries (besides mine USA) about all their own multicultural fun!
    3. Stillthinking
No, I am Korean American. I was just trying to say that I'm not Irish... LOL!

I used to have about a dozen friends over for dinner (corned beef, of course) and we went all out--green flowers, green balloons, green clothing (required for all guests)...a couple of years ago, my daughter and I even spraypainted our hair bright green for the occasion. I haven't had time to do it in a couple of years, though. Even so, I have a handful of friends who call at the beginning of March every year and ask before they make other plans, so I hope to get back to it at some point.

My Grandad Patrick was from Dublin, so every year since his death my sisters and I go out and drink a pint (or seven) of Guinness and celebrate his life
    1. Stillthinking
      mmmm...guinness. I love a black velvet.
    2. crpitt
Oh no! don't pollute the Guinness taste!

Wear green so I don't get pinched.

I don't drink, I forget to wear green. But it is a special family day, our mom was from Ireland so us kids tend to call each other and talk about mom on St Patrick's day and visit dad, he is big on making mom's old recipe for corned beef and cabbage.

Corned beef and cabbage is one of my favorite meals. I'll probably go to a local pub here in Halifax and listen to Irish music.

We will have a corned beef and cabbage (and golden potato lattkes with applesauce) meal. My husband makes his own beer from scratch so he will be drinking it. I loathe and despise the taste of beer so I will toast the day with a glass of wine.

It's our wedding anniversary, so it is a double celebration don't do the corned beef and cabbage thing, that is more american and not something I grew up with in the UK.

I will go to the in laws (the Kelleys) and have corned beef and cabbage again and again. Man I am tried of this meal every year. I guess I'm not the good Irishman. Why couldn't it be steak and lobster over and over
