I would like to know, what you are doing to get links to your blog.
Do you swap links, do you use trackbacks/comments or do you use other techniques?
For me, I am trying to get links by offering backlinks for a review. Look at my latest blog post.
So, any other ideas for getting links?

Well, I thought about trades, swaps, etc., but I think the real key to delivering content that people want to source. Part of it depends on what you want: do you want higher volume traffic or a smaller targeted audience.
I'm touching on this a bit more on Monday. You'll note a couple very good points made on the "blog value" discussion (the one just before this one) too. ChurchOfIntegrity nailed it right out of the box. Don't focus on the links; focus on the content and the rest will take care of itself, imo. -
I have no idea either! Does anyone out there know how I can do this with my iMac Apple? Please help!

I think you're asking a different question.
Backlinks or trackbacks all depend on the platform you use. For example, trackbacks are big on typepad and, I think but am not sure, on wordpress. Blogger does not have them; they have backlinks. I'm not familiar with the platform you are using Theresa. Try their help section.
I might note that I cannot see any backlinks (because I use blogger) using Safari browser (the standard for iMac, which I have). I can see them using Firefox as a browser. Hope this helps!
Oh I don't have the info handy, but I did read a while ago that some people were questioning the value of trackbacks in total. Personally, I think it's just a matter of preference, much like allowing comments.-
Damsel in distress. Sorry guys, I do not mean to play the girl card here, but I am not understanding this. I don't know what BLOGGER IS. I am currently using BlogToolKit.com, which I am not very satisfied with. I cannot even indent and create paragraphs! I cannot upload anything, other that text and the one photo. I have had to rely on their staff to include the Adsense on my site. I was given direction from Walter about Wordpress or Blogger and they seem a bit complicated. I have a lot to read. I just want to write and add some links and tracks, etc. I need the site to be more appealing, visually. Something to compliment my web log. I don't want busy and garish. I do not have MS Office compatibility. So unless someone calls me and goes through this step by step, I remain hands-tied. By the way, Happy Mother's Day. Cheers.

Andy is spot on with less words.
I also just posted something that Daniel Gross (Slate Magazine/New York Times) noted about online readers. I'm thinking out loud mind you, but it might be that subscribers play a smaller role in the success of an online publication as they do a print publication, which means the content value of each post becomes more important.-
Hmmm... good point. Do you think it might have to do with the content mix? I can see subscribers being more important the more narrow the focus. The broader the focus, the bigger the flux of readership.
For example, my blog under the umbrella of communication, is pretty broad. So let's say I write something about TalentZoo, which crosses into Recruiting as well as communication. Recruiters for that day are more apt to visit, but not necessarily subscribe. It happens all the time.
In more general terms, I think I would lean to Seth Godin's take on it: sethgodin.typepad.com/seths_blog/2007/05/how_to_misuse_g.html -
I actually missed out one very important point
Link to others, and they are more inclined to link to you
You can always spot a blog that is going to become extremely popular, because it gains links disproportionate to the number of subscribers it has.
The successful blogs on average gain maybe 1 link for every 1000 subscribers that they have.
A high quality growing blog might gain 1 link on average for every 100 subscribers. Once it becomes popular, it attracts more casual readers.
I am not talking about meme links or "roundup posts" but high quality editorial links that are the focus of the editorial piece.
That is why thee is so much focus on linkbait these days, for the potentially huge number of editorial links.

Rich ... how does what Seth says have anything to do with getting links? That post is all about google analytics and when you should us it.

This is the section that is relevant. If you keep this in mind, you'll get links because people will want to source your information...
"But traffic is a red herring. At best, it's distracting, a stand-in for something more useful. At worst, though, it's dangerous, because the quest for traffic causes you to make bad decisions.
Why do you have a site? What's your goal? Is it to sell something? To receive email? To spread an idea? Whatever it is, you can probably measure it. And measure it you should. Every other piece of Analytics data is trivial compared to that one number."

Many useful thought here. Thanks to all, especially Rich. How about this way to get links: www.fitforfreedom.com/creating-traffic/review-fitforfreedom-and-get-a-free-... What do you think? Would that be right for you?

Even if people take you up on you Free Links offer and you get traffic to your blog....
the way to get links is what Andy says:
"Write great unique content
Focus on gaining subscribers not monetization" -
I found this way of creating links worth giving it a try. But I wanted to know, what others think about it or wheter they have other ideas.
Some points have been posted here, and I wanted to keep it alive by posting my personal way and hoped to get some feedback on that as I think, this way might not be the best in the world. Of course, Andy is right, his way is the way to do it, but is it the only way? -
I submit posts to social bookmarking sites, those submissions show up in google, probably bad for the blog though. I only submit my good posts, what I have noticed is that it gives my posts exposure, even if it's not on the front page of em. That exposure, for me anyway, usually gives me some natural back links, I assume they are either regulars to my blog or find my posts via SB sites, coz it works on the same time line.
I submit a post, next day I find new referrals in my stats.
Plus I comment, forums etc.
Oh and with forums, start your own threads that's where the juicy traffic is. -
A few words concerning Google AdSense and traffic exchanges. If your site's traffic is mainly through traffic exchanges, be prepared to receive a reminder like this from the Google administrator:
It has come to our attention that invalid clicks or impressions have been generated on the Google ads on your site(s) through users of third-party programs paid or provided with other incentives to visit your site. Such programs may include, but are not limited to auto-surf, pay-to-surf, pay-to-read, or pay-to-click sites.

What every blog needs is one way non reciprocal backlinks. Free article submissions to directories and content providers, article marketing, submissions of press releases and other forms of content distribution are one means of getting them.
If you write quality content other people will want to link to you, so if you want to put your writing skills to work to promote your blog this article including 21 sites for submission will interest you.
Article Writing and Backlinks
onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2009/03/08/article-writing-and-backlinks/
The links on a site represent the relationships that site has with other sites. Therefore, a two very important factor to keep in mind are (1) Google’s policy strongly opposes buying/selling links and hence purchase and sales of backlinks is violation of terms of Google, and (2) in the last Google update when unrelated reciprocal links were not valued.
If your web pages and the site get a lot of reciprocal (two-way links), especially if they are not related then the search engines will assume that these are solicited links, and search engines like Google do not give much importance or even any importance to such unrelated two-way or reciprocal links, and may even penalize your site.
Suffice to say that unless you have a clear understanding of how backlinks, reciprocal and non-reciprocal links are viewed and valued by search engines, then you are not in a position to formulate an effective link building strategy.
