There are times when you are so prolific and can turn out a number of posts in an hour or so. However there are also times when you become so lean on ideas and just couldn't complete even a paragraph. How do you deal with the latter?

I wrote a post on this a long long time ago on my old writing blog that may be helpful: hearmindwrite.blogspot.com/2008/05/when-not-to-write.html

I would paste it here, but it would be really long.

I like the part about narrowing focus. I think that would work. After blogging for some time now, I realized that most web users are looking for something specific online and TOO broad content just doesn't seem to be of interest to more readers.

From time to time I experience a day when I wonder what to blog about, and sometimes I experience “dry spells”, and when I do, then I’m blogging through writer’s block. On any day when I can’t determine what to blog about I begin by reading my blog description, because when I do sometimes an idea leaps out at me. At times when nothing is “leaping” I consult two posts I linked to below Blog It Ideas Checklist (10 ideas) and Blogging Through Writer’s Block (11 ideas).

I like your checklist a lot. While I've been doing a few of those on your checklist, I missed out on a few. Well, time to work out on those. Btw, how should you go about interviewing a fellow blogger?
    2. timethief
I'm glad you found the strategies to be helpful. You make up a brief list of questions and then find a blogger with a related blog to interview.

Take a break. As the old saying goes, "You can't pump water out of a dry well." Be patient and the well will fill up again.

    All great ideas above.

New bloggers like me often suffer from "kitchen sink syndrome" - i.e. the blog has not necessarily settled into a particular focus or interest. As TofP notes on his blog, you have to write about what interests you or it will stall. I'm rethinking my focus as it is changing over time. I find that interesting.

So I would say, go with the flow and get out of the way of the process. In my opinion, writing what you think you should will never be as good as what you are moved by.

For me, the best thing is to take a break. Just put it aside for a while and do other things. If you're trying to hard, you can block your writing flow. Sometimes you just have to let it go.

yeah i do that too, but sometimes when working on a deadline, you just have no choice but to produce something despite your state of mind.

since I dont make a living from my blog, I simply forget about writting, and just go on with life and observe the world around me, surely enough I find some inspiration.

good for you. more like leisure blogging. U

when that nice time that post ideas are flowing, i write them down, no matter how small. this sees me thru those dry days. but when i am totally blocked, i take a break from cyberspace and get my head together. this really works for me
    1. lasertekservices
yeah i noticed that when I take a longer break from messing with my laptop and perhaps take a nap; I usually (not all the time) get those ideas flowing afterwards.

I never consider myself a writer so I can't suffer from it

As Shakesphere might have put it: To each, his own definition! I have no published works and I have hardly 10 people reading my blog so no way I am a writer

    Plagiarization?
    1. cookingasshole
I am pretty sure that is not a word.
  11. PussDaddy
Ok, maybe I meant plagiarism then.
    1. cookingasshole
      that's better
    2. lasertekservices
looks like plagarization is already an accepted term... here's a link to that dictionary.reference.com/browse/plagiarization

Turn off the computer, play with my kids or watch tv. I find I get re-inspired after that.

      thanks for the tip. U

cookingasshole isn't a word either. It is two, two, two words in one.

Write? Eventually you'll get over the hump if you keep writing.

My posts are educational in nature. Sometimes legislation, sometimes history or historical documents. So there are numerous topics to choose from. I detailed the healthcare bill (h.r.3200), the Employee Free Choice Act, the Hate Crime bill, various directives and documents. There is always something out there to inform people about.

i prefer a natural, gentle laxative to get things moving again.
