I am from Chicago and we have rules regarding Hot Dogs. Mustard (NO KETCHUP!!! Sacrilege), onions, celery salt, tomatoes, a pickle and maybe a hot pepper or two.

Where are you from and what do you eat on your hot dog?

I'm from Ogden. Plain! Nothing on it!
    1. Stillthinking
I used to love totally plain hot dogs when I was a kid.
  2. sensico
OMG, I love hotdogs with a lot of sweet relish and ketchup....now I think Im going to stop by the grocery store and pick me up some hotdogs
    1. Stillthinking
      Ketchup is very controversial here.
    1. Stillthinking
I love a Tabasco kick to my food.
  3. moreorlesley
Don't eat hotdogs very often but mustard, relish and some diced up onions!!! Toast the bun and I'm happy!!!

and now I'm thinking a hot dog would be good for lunch.
    1. Stillthinking
That is how they serve the hot dogs at Wrigley Field. Best place to watch a ball game with a hot dog and a cold beer! I wish it was summer...
  4. sensico
you know what else is good....CornDogs especially with mustard on them
    1. Stillthinking
I love corn dogs! I used to get them at street carnivals along with a giant stick of cotton candy.
  5. LynneaUrania
    I can go with a good Vege-Link.
    1. Stillthinking
I've tried Veggie Dog and they are surprisingly realistic and tasty!

    CHILI DOGS RULE!!!!!
    1. Stillthinking
Yum, also a classic with some sprinkled cheese.
  7. rmaxwell142
I like hot dogs just with ketchup. I have very simple tastes!
  8. ckent27
    Ketchup, mustard, relish, bun.

    Yumm!
    1. Stillthinking
All these ketchup people! In Chicago, you will actually get dirty looks if you put ketchup on your hot dog. People are hardcore about their encased meats here.
  9. legbamel
Mustard, dill relish, and sauerkraut, but usually it's a bratwurst rather than a hot dog. I don't much care for regular hot dogs.
    1. Stillthinking
Sauerkraut is amazing on a brat that's been cooked in beer! There are some amazing German beer gardens in Chicago and many pubs make some pretty awesome brats.

I make mine with mustard and hot peppers and a nice cold beer.

At Fenway, though, they sell Italian sausages with peppers and onions that are to DIE for! Man, I miss those.

This thread makes me long for baseball season.
    1. Stillthinking
I really think hot dogs taste better at the ball park! Wrigley Field used to sell Chicago made Vienna Sausages, but I think they switched to Nathan's. Travesty! I love sitting in the bleachers with a hot dog, beer and the Cubs!
  12. melindaville
I like my Fenway franks with mustard. I also like a few onions sprinkled on but NO ketchup! Ketchup is just wrong.

Oh, I'm from San Francisco, mostly.
    1. Stillthinking
      Yes! Another Ketchup naysayer.
    2. legbamel
I hate ketchup - why ruin perfectly good tomatoes with all of that other crap?
    3. Stillthinking
Ketchup has its place, just not on a hot dog. Ketchup is awesome on eggs, fried chicken strips, and french fries!
    4. trailofpen
Bull! Ketchup is the gospel, especially on hotdogs. Mustard? Sacrilege!
  13. sellytapgirl
With some ketchup and a tiny bit of mustard. Or plain.
  14. Deray28
In celebration of National Necroposting Day! I wanted to bump this thread back to the first page.

A typical Hot Dog in my home town, Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico has:]

Winner wrapped with bacon (some places also offer these filled with cheese)
    Mayo
    Mustard
    Ketchup
    Pickles
    Tomatoes
    Onion (raw)

Up to here everything looks normal, I shall continue...

    Lettuce
Avocado dip (avocados blended with water)
    Melted american cheese
    Non-melted american cheese
    Fresh cheese (white cheese)
    Jalapenos
    Mushrooms
    Chorizo
    Beans
    Salsa bandera (pico de gallo)
    Caramelized onions
    More bacon, chopped

And you should always ask for a side of fries and a chile guerito toreado (grilled yellow pepper) that can also be filled with cheese and wrapped with bacon.

I just got back from drinking far too many beers with my best friend and now I want an Hermosillo hot dog.
  15. footiam
With chilli ketchup or tomato ketchup.
  16. trailofpen
Ketchup, Ketchup and more ketchup. I drench the dog in it, and when I've had enough of that, I put on some Catsup!
    1. Stillthinking
trailofpen is banned for putting ketchup on his hotdog.
  17. hatingtherain
costco dog with saurkraut(sp?)mustard and ketchup

or chilidog with cheddar cheese and sour cream
    1. trailofpen
Costco hotdogs are the bombdizzle. Throw on some catsup, onions, more catsup, and a churro on top. It's like the magic voodoo hotdog.
    2. hatingtherain
      mmmmm...magic voodoo hotdog..delicious
  18. cathy13
    I love hotdogs!
    I always have mine with
    Mustard
    Relish
    Onion
and when I am at home I put on Chees Whiz
    1. cathy13
BTW ST you are looking very fancy.......me likey!

We had a Grey's Papaya Hot Dog in NYC. Supposedly this is a very famous and great hotdog.

It was bad! Nothing special to it all!

The absolute WORST hotdog anywhere is any hotdog you get in Australia.
I have NO idea what they do to them but I couldn't even choke down a bite, I had to spit it out. Really horrible
    2. Rory
I'm the same, except ... I ADD IN KETCHUP!!!!!!!!!! hahahahaha ... I do. You HAVE to have it on a hotdog, as it amplifies the flavour.

However, NO ketchup on sausages! That's just not right.
  19. KPinski77
With spicy mustard and a little chopped onion... and I agree with a couple of the people above. Costco dogs are awesome!
  20. Agit8r
I should note that the authentic topping of sweet brown mustard (in Germany... along with sauerkraut, of course) is rather more similar in essence to katsup than anglo-america yellow mustard. Just sayin...
  21. Stillthinking
    *groans*

You're trying to kill me by necroposting this thread right?
    1. Agit8r
all dressed up? going somewhere fancy?
    2. Stillthinking
baby showers today. 2 of them.

      *grumbles*
    3. Agit8r
      sucks to be you
  22. kirewass
A popular Swedish junk food consists of two hot dogs wrapped in a soft thin bread roll with a dollop of mashed potatoes, creamy shrimp salad, ketchup, mustard, onion, pickled cucumber and lettuce.
    1. Agit8r
ironically that "junk food" is rather healthy by American standards
    2. melindaville
Huh? You wrap up the hot dogs in shrimp salad? Seems like that would not be good combo--although I am sure I would like both seperately.
  23. melindaville
I completely agree on the no ketchup--ketchup belong on hamburgers, not on hotdogs.

I like my hotdogs with deli mustard (spicy) and onions. Sometimes I like sauerkraut on them too. Every time I go to the ballgame, I get a Fenway Frank!

Still, I'm getting dizzy with all your hairdo changes!
    1. Agit8r
I'm finicky about sauerkraut. it's got to be well drained or bleh!

It's good with aforementioned sweet brown mustard
    2. melindaville
I totally agree on the sauerkraut--if it is too wet--that's just no good because then the bun gets mushy.
    3. Stillthinking
      This is the last one!

Mad Men has this website where you can design your own 60's avatar and I had to play with it.
    4. melindaville
Perhaps I should check out the madmen site. Maybe Melindaville needs a new avatar? What do you think?
    5. Stillthinking
Yes! That would be so cool! All the cool kids are doing it!

      www.amctv.com/originals/madmen/madmenyourself/
    6. melindaville
I made one--but I am not crazy about the way I look. I don't think it's that representative of how I really look. I didn't like any of the hair choices--my hair is past my shoulders. And I also wanted to have big blue eyes--not blue eyeshadow!

I think I shall remain me.
  24. dbowles1017
I soak it with ketchup. So much ketchup that it should really be called ketchup on a bun, with a side of hot dog.
    1. Stillthinking
dbowles is banned for irking ST with his ketchup worship.
    2. dbowles1017
Oh mighty ketchup god name Heinz. Please strike down the non-believer with 57 strikes!
  25. Deray28
Sorry that I traumatized you ST by re-bumping this thread.

I must say that out of all the options for an Hermosillo hot dog, I do not add Ketchup

If it is an american hot dog well, there is only that and mustard so, yeah
  26. crpitt
I could be rude, but I wont.

Hotdogs are consumed with mustard, tomato sauce (ketchup)and fried onions.
  27. knowledgement
Being a vegetarian, I do not eat my or other people's hot dogs
    1. trailofpen
I'm glad you don't eat your own hotdog.
    2. Agit8r
      ouch!
    3. aningeniousname
The trick to eating your own hot dog is pilates, no sense of taste and a filthy determination bordering on perverted obsession.
  28. kirewass
@melindaville: Oh yes, a generous serving of a messy pink mayonnaise based shrimp salad is a typical condiment on top of hot dogs in Sweden. Weird, isn't it?
  29. slimmingsolutions
My hotdog needs Ketchup and Mayo...and lots of it. But i'm from Newcastle, England x
  30. timethief
I do NOT eat hotdogs or sausages or processed meats frequently and usually not at all. I'm on an anti-inflammtory diet and all processed meats like hot dogs and sausages should absolutely be avoided due to the nitrates.

      Too many ketchup eaters.
    2. crpitt
I love tomato sauce on hotdogs, tis yum.
    3. Stillthinking
      Blech!!!!! So wrong.

I just had a Chicago style hot dog yesterday.
    4. crpitt
You need the sweetness of the sauce to co-mingle with the fiery mustard.
  32. Shiley
Ketchup no mustard. I'll eat it with slaw some times or chili.
    1. Stillthinking
*gives up and stomps away in frustration*
    2. Shiley
I'm going to start a civil rights movement. You have hot dog discrimination.
    3. Stillthinking
      *sticks fingers in ears*

      lalalalalala! I can't hear you!
    4. Shiley
Good luck there. It would be odd for you to hear me. Maybe cover your eyes.
  33. exit2013
I'm from the Windy City also. I once had a co-worker who DID put ketchup on his hot dog. Haven't seen him since. I think the hot dog patrol got him!
  34. iratedog
I'm from the UK - ketchup, onions then just attack it with passion
  35. amybyrd21
I lke them with onion bell peppers sauted in butter (real butter) and melty cheese on them. My son eats them out of the package if I do not watch him. My hubby likes mustard and my daughter will eat them bacon wrapped
