I love them! To me a Dead Blog is like a time capsule, it stands alone, independent of all that has followed since it's passing. Making the reader into a kind of cultural archaeologist... They can be so funny, whilst also too tragic for words, becoming very addictive but at the same time kinda depressing. Some would say they are just 'Cyberspace Junk' cluttering up the internet & should be removed...but what do you think?

I've dedicated my blog to their failures & triumphs.

Dead blogs depress me. I just assume the author died in a terrible gardening accident and it just bums out the rest of my day.

    Will they reincarnate as software?
    1. aningeniousname
      No they reincarnate as malware.

I think sometimes they are just slumbering waiting for their owners to come back from vacation or prison...
    1. aannttiiiittnnaa
Prison? Well, here is a quote from one:

"Observations of an amerikan while on trial for obscenity."

      sloth.blogspot.com/

This blog died in 2004 so maybe we don't need to ask how the trial went?!

Just leave them alone, dead blogs can also give interesting facts.

So now a blog has to be catholic to get into heaven? Who says?!?!?

cool idea to have blog about dead blogs. I had similar blog called blogsgraveyard, but that blog also died !!! I don't know, I always thought of dead blogs as junk, something that pollutes blogosphere and needs to be recycled.

Sorry to hear your old blog didn't make it Webomatik, but there is actually a special place for dead blogs about dead blogs! If you give me the URL I will add it to the roll of ironic honor

actually, in one of my just-before-dawn-web-is-boring moments I deleted that blogspot blog, so it didn't just died, it has disappeared completely

The only thing I care about regarding dead blogs is ensuring that mine don't become one. So I create potential topic lists and try to carve out time for posting-- and I post even some days when I don't feel like it-- because I know it's been fun and worth carrying on.

I have a couple blogs on life support. That's equally sad.

And that stupid beeping sound drives me crazy.

if someone here died, would anyone know?

Like crotchetyOldMan, will anyone tell us when he has gone?

I read a great dead blog recently. It was about a British guy who was volunteering as a teacher in rural Ghana Africa. Those types of adventure blogs can still be really good even if they have...um...passed away.

So true what everyone is saying

Yes, they're a weird phenomenon of this technological age. We get to read peoples abandoned journals on line instead of hidden away in some attic!
They do clog up the blogosphere, yet can sometimes have such a fragile beauty. I often wonder why people stop blogging...loads of reasons no doubt, which sometimes I guess at on my blog. Many seem to complain that they receive no comments & so feel that no one is reading their posts.

The idea behind my blog was to recycle them & give them a little bit of fame I suppose. Also they form quite an interesting picture all brought together in one place...

Thanks everyone for giving your opinion, it is interesting to hear what you think

If at least one person visits it, a blog is no longer "dead". New life is breathed into it with each and every new visitor and/or visit. - Nards

True! I say keep blogs that died too young alive

    Intersting.

I just read a great post yesterday, from June from an Aussie blogger I recently discovered, the post is titled
"Deathwatch and the new blog". I put in on my news and notes on my sidebar yesterday.

It was a great post( and a killer design as well)

They should make a cemetary for them. =)

I had to make a webpage a few years ago for a class. I just had to have a few things posted on it to get credit. I found it 4 years later. It was fun to look at. =)

      Check out my page Kxthy,

A dead blog is a window to time gone past. If the content is good I will have a look around if there is more than only a couple of posts. If there is only a couple of posts than its not worth the memory its taking up.

I feel bad to the blogs that used to be so popular and then died out...
  21. aannttiiiittnnaa
Do any of you have a favourite Dead Blog?

I tend to like the ones that have fewer posts because they seem more tragic.
