I wrote an article today on my blog about weight loss.

It got me thinking. I wonder what other peoples views are on the subject.

I am just about 33 years old I spent up until I was 30 not in the best of shape. Matter fact I was about 40 or so pounds over weight. 3 years ago I decided to change that.

(although I was overweight I trained all the time I just had really bad eating habits. )

My question is are you happy with your health?

I can do things now I could never do when I was younger, i am actually amazed I am in better health and shape then people lots of people 10 years younger than me.

If you aren't happy with your health why haven't you done anything to change it ?

My excuse was I was full of excuses (err, lazy)

It's taken me 3 years of dedication to get to the point I am at now. I fell better and look better.

I think the benefits of a healthy lifestyle out weigh the cost.

your opinion ?

You can read my article for reference if you like.

The best advice on weight management is from the Gentleman's Guide to Life:

want to lose weight - eat less
want to gain weight - eat more

I'm trying to eat normally and lose weight by going to gym every morning. I think that excessive weight makes you less happy and less satisfied with life.

Acoustic has the simple answer. Just eat raw veggies. You'll be amazed how easy weight management comes, and the physical condition you will evolve to.

Congratulations to you on your success! I know it isn't easy to change your habits, but really I think the best thing to do is to avoid getting into the bad habits altogether.

I'm 36 and have been eating healthy and working out regularly since I was about 16, so about 20 years now. I'm in the best shape of my life since I started increasing the amount of weights I do -even after having a child 5 years ago. It's truly a lifestyle choice & I've started my son on it as soon as solids were introduced. I've never gained a significant amount of weight, so have never had to lose it, so have never "dieted". I don't monitor my eating down to the fat gram or calorie -that would make me miserable. I eat healthy portions, make sure to have my 5-10 servings of fruit & veggies every day, lots of fibre (think oatmeal, whole grain alternatives to processed breads & crackers), some protein, drink a big glass of 1% milk with dinner. I also don't eat out very often, maybe once a month or so (it gets expensive!); I think that by cooking for myself & seeing what goes into my food, I cut down on a lot of unnecessary fat and processed foods.

One of the most important things I do is *not deny myself*. If I've eaten a healthy meal, by all means I'm allowed 2 or 3 chocholate chip cookies, a slice of cake or a few chips!

    Good luck with maintaining!

Yes I am happy because I myself did a life change about 5 years ago. I slowly started going vegetarian. At 40, (41 on April 6) I am in the best shape I have ever been! It feels SO good ~ I still can't finish 1 on 1 with my 12 year old but I give him a run for his money!!

Also, I get so excited about the new recipes, eating fresh, local, doing yoga, core strengthening and everytime I drop out of a game with my son, he makes me run laps! I CAN RUN MY LAPS!

SO, whatever you are doing, STICK with it, you'll be so happy with yourself! GOOD LUCK!

    Nice posts!

My wife is vegetarian, I eat chicken, turkey, eggs, fish, cheese once in a while.

Though, I jog 2 miles a day 6 days a week, lift weights for 1hour 6 days a week. do tai chi for 45mins 5 days a week. I usually get my full workout in before I teach. I do core everyday. Pushups and situps.

Ive been training in martial arts for 17 years. So I always was strong and active. Still though I can testify for some people its harder to loose weight. I can eat a potato chip and put on weight.

I get up around 4:30 am (sometimes 3:00) but I am in bed early.

I do core everyday. Pushups, situps,

I have been on that routine for about a year. Going to bed earlier has its advantages, I eat less LOLS.

When I first started my routine I started with jogging super slow push up sit ups Chi gung.

Now It just seems like part of my everyday life.

I went from 220 to 179 in just about 3years. I think its better to lose weight slow then rapid.( Less scaring)

For me the secret to weight loss was just hard work.

the first year I started mountain biking by the second year I was Riding 20 miles 3 times a week. (that hurt)

As far as diet. I slow down and chew my food. (takes a while for your brain to realize it just ate.)

I drink lots of water. Cut back on the creamer in my coffee.

Where I live in new jersey we have a place called WAWA ! The coffee is rather addictive.

But looking back I do feel much better.

I have a soy protein shake with soy milk for breakfast and eat lots of peanuts.

Tip: Cross training like biking, jogging, jump roping. Will keep your body confused and in a state of fat loss. At least it does for me.

    Thanks for posting

Tip: Anyone starting any type of program. Start slow the routine is more important then the activity.

For anyone who wants to lose weight: STOP DRINKING SODA!

If all other things remain constant you WILL lose weight.

You should do what make you feel good.
In my opinion, there are two types of people out there..
First one, feel good, look good.
If you fall into this category, even though you are above average in weight, you would still look good coz u do feel good and confide in yourself.

Secone one, look good, feel good.
Am definitely this type of person. I csn only feel good about myself if knowing that I am in good shape.

Anyhow, the bottomline is keep your BMI in check, and do not let your weight pose any threeats to your health. Because after all, health is of the most importance!

obviously health is over-rated. i mean, really. who cares if you're healthy or not, just do what's fun. people didn't worry about their health 100 years ago, they just did what they wanted.

same with food. my ancestors ate all sorts of fatty, cholesterol-building foods and lived to ripe old happy ages.
