This week's installment of Wednesday's Weekly Enabling gives you the right to hate yoga.

Are you a yogi? Do you love it? Hate it? Not get it? Are you good at it? Bad?

I've tried. Hard. You can read how bad I am at it: notyourmotherscrazy.com

      That's funny.

I do yoga for my chronic back problem--it's the only thing I have tried that truly has helped relieve pain. I'm certainly no yogi though.

I think Yoga's great, and I think people who do Yoga are great. But like everything else, it's not for everyone. I've done it in spurts here and there in my life, but am not a devotee. Also, there are so many different kinds of Yoga. I prefer the milder types, where the stretching isn't so severe. I find when I overdo it I always end up straining a muscle or two.

I have been a yogini for over 25 years now. I practice daily and if I did not my mobility ie. lack thereof would be a serious issue.

Arthritis is actually a term used to refer to a group of more than 100 diseases with a common factor: inflammation of the joints. The common types of arthritis are Osteoarthritis (which is the most common), Rheumatoid Arthritis, Gout, and Fibromyalgia. (FWIW I have all of these diseases, except Gout and I will take them with me to the grave).

Yoga asanas help strengthen my joints, makes them function normally, and reduce stiffness. With its virtue of balance, Yoga practice helps me regulate the levels of uric acid in my body. More importantly, yoga helps me to lead to an overall healthier lifestyle that can enhances my resistance not only to arthritis but to other sicknesses as well.

The only time I attempted yoga:
I was severly hung over and its was the type of yoga where they heat up the room to about 90 degrees. I almost passed out.

When I learned they wouldn't teach me "yoga fire" or "yoga flame", I figured it was all bullox.

I love yoga. I do the Bikrams version that stellak refers to above (but never after drinking). Bikrams is hatha yoga done in a hot room. My studio feels like a million degrees somedays, and is always packed with scantily-dressed, dripping people of every age and description. I'm not flexible by design, so the heat really works for me. Yoga has helped me heal old injuries and optimize my health.

I can still do the lotus position in spite of my increasing age. I regard it as an accoutrement to the exercise I already do.

I can't do yoga because I have funny joints...would be nice if I could...

I did yoga for about a year as part of a weight loss, fitness regime. I had a personal trainer 3 times a week, a nutritionist once a week, a therapist once a week, and yoga 3 times a week. It really helped me.

I can't afford the trainer, the therapist, the nutritionist or the yoga classes anymore. I miss it. When I have a regular, steady job again, I am going to start going to yoga classes again. It's hard to do it at home on my own with no guidance.
