Discussions

I'm curious. I've done what most have suggested to encourage readers to comment on my blog, but I'm still getting next to no comments. What am I doing wrong? Is there something wrong with my blog? Is it my style? can anyone offer some suggestions because I'm beginning to feel like I'm talking to myself
my blog is www.sochicinteriors.com/blog
thanks folks

    Hey there,
One of the best way of getting comments is to comment on other peoples websites.. Also you will find once you are getting over 500 unique visitors a day to your blog there are comments everyday too..

I will comment on your blog too..

I think generally high quality, interesting content inspires comments, posting entries that are geared to a more specified subject also seems to bring about the most comments for me, from my readers whom have an interest in the same subject(s).

Also, I generally let people know to feel free to comment with any questions, etc. on many of my entries.

    Lena,

I wonder whether having more comments should really be your goal? When I looked at your blog, it seemed like you were finding an interesting way to showcase a product. The format leaves little opportunity for a reader to express an opinion.

Perhaps, if you wanted to establish the space as a design forum, you could talk about concepts in design and promote your blog to other interior designers. That way, a community that has an interest in discussing topics in your field could naturally form.

I hope that helps! (with that said, what an interesting stairway mural. I've never seen anything like that.)

Comments those are good and sweet obviously thrill but first of all know who comment. Naturally, content driven traffic leave their comment. Those who come from search engine will not leave their comment as they would exit if they dont find their searched information or after getting their resources. Further the process of commenting should begin from you only. Leave your comment before leaving any blog post. And this will trigger others to reciprocate.

Another issue i must say. Dont judge your post by the comments it receive as not all comments happen to be post related. Some come to leave their ad materials and leave without going through the post proper. So, focus on your content and present your post in such a way that will urge the readers to say something.

Place your comment form just below the post. If possible subscribe to Comment Luv. Comment luv works best in wordpress with all its feature. It is growing and integrating with bloggers. The comment form of comment luv is very good. Disable captcha and allow anonymous comment in your blog. Sometimes the captcha just bores. If you allow comments from registered users then naturally you will be discouraging others unregistered users to comment.

In other words, let your post drive comment. But always end your post with a line "Leave your valuable comment please."

    Thanks

Thanks to all for your valuable and friendly suggestions! I appreciate it MUCH :))

A good way is to write things which will infuriate people

Gee, some women ask stupid questions :-)

Oh my goodness, I'm so infuriated now! :-)

posts about controversial topics are apt to get the most comments. posts about things which people are confused about or enthusiastic about also will generate comments.

btw, you had a great blog there ohh, why you'd off the comments on your blog?
  18. anarooscorpio
Could it be your posts are quite not comment-worthy? No, I'm just kidding, somehow, I get to comment your post.

We need to develop relationships with other bloggers who share our interests. Comment on their site, and they may comment back. It really is a social thing. It can't be faked or forced. And when you comment back to someone who comments, add more content. Make the comment an addition to your original blog entry. Enchance the story! And make the person who commented feel welcome! Don't just say hi, but comment on what they had to say...react. Commenting back to comments is as much a part of a blog as writing the blog itself. The blog experience is all about sharing.

Based on my opinion. Some of the ways to get more commenters on your post are the following:
    1. Make lots of friends on the internet.
    2. Write high quality interesting post.
    3. Interact with you readers.
    4. If your that desperate do shameless blog promotion here in BC.=P
Anyways, those are just my opinions hope this will help you out.

Visit other people's blogs and leave good comments (not "I like your blog. Please visit mine http....").
  22. lenablonsky
Very worthy comments and ideas :)....point taken anarooscorpio :)I keep trying...and I totally agree with davedol...

Getting lots of visitors doesn't mean that you will get comments as well. You need to search for communities related to your topic and then share your blog to them. If they will like the content they will certainly share their thoughts.

Also please don't mind, you might need to change the color scheme or theme of blog to give some life to it. It is giving a dull look. Otherwise the pictures are good.

I took a look at your blog and while it looks interesting I found I couldn't even get through one entry - not because of content but because of readability issues.

Limit the width of your content area so that on high res monitors your line length is in the neighbourhood of 12 words - much more than that and it gets really hard to visually track from line to line.

Ditch the long lines of centred text - for a small caption it's fine, but when you have multiple full lines of centred text it gets really difficult to follow because you have a ragged left margin.

Don't use reversed text for your main content area - light text on a dark background is really hard on the eyes.

I guarantee improving readability will result in more people staying on the site to read your content instead of bouncing away, and the more people who are engaged in your content the bigger your pool of potential commenters will be.

There are some plugins you can install to encourage comments:

Start discussions like "how do you get comments?" i'm not kidding. From this you'll get some visitors. if they like you're blog, they'll comment. if your blog is extremely cool, they're gonna come back.

I just published a post on this topic. Maybe the post and references in it will be helpful to you.
    I hope so.

Do what I do -- ask for comments. Simply asking for them usually increases comment rate. Also, are you commenting on other blogs? If not, then others in your niche won't be inspired to comment on yours.

    1. finish your article with a question
    2. write interesting article that people would like to join the conversation
    3. get more traffic
    4. response to any comments
  30. neoauteur
Get to know your readers by commenting on their blogs. Once your fellow bloggers become comfortable with you, they will post comments.
  31. myriadlife
Timethief's link is really excellent. I only want people to comment if they are genuinely interested in what I've said or done not just to get a return comment.

It takes a bit of time but it will happen, don't worry!

Just left a comment to help you along (and because I was genuinely interested), very attractive blog!

Nice blog you had. And some very nice pictures.

I also think just asking for a comment would work. On your blog I think you could do that with a link to the comment section. You comment section was a little 'hidden' now.

    Cheers...

    Hi lenablonsky,

I agree with Anlina that you're use of centering the written text makes readability an issue. I would also suggest that perhaps you could write the image caption text next to the picture instead. This will help to not only increase the visibility of the text, but give the impression of this being more a written breakdown of a process instead of simply a bunch of images.

The other thing I agree with is getting out there and interacting with other bloggers. Find a blogger who's writing about stuff that you find interesting and enjoyable and comment on it. However, don't expect to get commentators right away from doing that since the focus really should be about building relationships and interactions. Those you'll find give you a much greater satisfaction in the long run and you're more likely to have regular comments as you go back and forth between blogs discussing various topics at hand.

As with anything in life, what you give out reflects what you'll get back in return. Hope this helps and happy blogging.

Install IntenseDebate or Disqus. I just changed my blog from Disqus to IntenseDebate because it works more smoothly.

I had read from a famous blogger in his free ebook about commenting to our own post like making a name to comment to our own post. I am going to try this but I don't know if it is a right thing to do.
  36. preaxz
The traffic is important, not the comments. That's what I have in mind.
