I have had a few comments on my blog but nothing compared to the ratio of people which come to have a look. What have you found works ? And how many blogs to do you look at and how many in ratio do you comment on ?
Could you comment on mine thank you

I've only had very few people on my blog so far, but alreay a handful of comments... I'm actually quite surprised that people are that interested. I wish I could tell you why - and I hope more people will comment. (I really onlystarted blogging on saturday).

I have blogged in the past and it does take time to build up a circle of friends.... This blog has been going for a month... and due to me linking with a blog roll it means i am high up on google searches and so have been getting many hits from google search and also strangly the sun newspaper due to my bring back hanging piece ... but no comments...

Ask the visitors a question at the end of your post to help encourage interaction. Or let them know you'd love to hear from them. Depending on the blog niche, that can help.
Also, go comment on the blogs of some other folks in your niche. Most people will at least come and check yours out. I've met some nice people that way.-
I have tried to be a bit more open question rather than closed question... but i always feel sometimes like i am pleading for a comment rather than gaining comments due to interest... I have a little more time so have been wandering around other blogs... thank you for your own comment... it all takes time..

I tried "intense debate" when it was in beta and for some reason it messed up my comment css. I like it because you can answer the comments of the person directly, not I have to write one large comment for everyone because I usually only get to them once a day or so.
If here are any other plug-ins like it I'd love to know. -
Tell them that you can reveal when the world will end if they comment, then when they do leave a comment you can claim that the mutant fish-koala that was feeding you the doomsday information has been abducted by government agents. If nothing else it will help establish your credibility with your readers.

I think most importantly is how well your posts are being written. Or how bad it is. Each extremes are most likely to gain you a comment. lol
Anyway, leaving a comment on others would more often get you a comment back, out of gratitude or out of courtesy. Also works if your post is a great read, or you leave room for interaction between you and readers.
I don't usually get comments on my blog, but the ones who comment are usually regulars whom I have built great friendship with due to each other exchanging comments on each other's post.
Remember, it doesn't hurt to be making that first move.
Most times, people wait for their comment to be given, and then return the favor. Once in a while, it feels great to be the one to get the ball rolling.
