Hi, folks-
I had an incident recently where I got an email from a visitor that was a little strange. It was one of those cases where the person's intentions were questionable-- they were asking for advice but seemed to have nestled that around some other commentary that made me a little nervous.

So my question is to you all is, what do YOU do in this case? I ended up not responding to the email-- I didn't want to encourage them-- but I don't want to be rude, either.

Thoughts?

Answer only the emails/comments you like (if you didn't know the sender).

It's up to you to remove every message/comment and if needed block people you never want to see again.

Just imagine if someone would call you by phone with the same intention..., I hope my "rude" advice will help you

It's actually a very good point about the phone call parallel. Thanks!

I don't have an active "comment" system so it's not like anyone else saw the email but me-- so at least there is filtering that way.

It's your website and you're the moderator. If you don't like a comment, delete it.

Delete it. Many times these people will go away if you ignore them. I am lucky so far and have had only positive comments. Although blogging and having an online store has increased my email spam but I just filter that out. I imagine that getting creepy comments is a bit disturbing though. Hope your commentor goes away...

Thanks, gang. It's just the one person and I've logged his IP in case it becomes a problem. Shame ya have to do things like that, but better safe than sorry. :-)

I do the same as you. Just delete/ignore it.

Luckily I've only had a couple of those.

I definitely try to look at things from a third perspective ... but mostly I would just ignore it ... move on.

People just "love" not gaining control over someone they meant to upset.

never had any reall annoying or bad or freaky or nutty comments!! but if i will the best to do is delete!!! but as Chii says maybe just ignore it and the person will leave u alone ...since most of those people just want to get on somebody's nerves!!

I actually welcome a dissenting viewpoint. It adds depth to a discussion and brings more people to the blog. If you start deleting comments how will you ever know if your writing, or in particular your blog, is any good?

I don’t know if I have ever received an email or a comment that freaked me out. I would like to hear more specifics if you are willing to share the email.

Ha, oh, it wasn't a dissenting viewpoint... that would have been fine. This was overly... complimentary and familiar, let's say. :-)

If I have to question it then it would be put in that nice little box titled "delete"

    @thriftshopromantic
IMO logging the IP, deleting the comment or email, and failing to engage is the best way to go.

TT- I never did hear from him again, thankfully--

(PS- I see this is a zombie thread from May 07 that got resurrected somehow today... )

The anti-zombie helmet business must be booming lately.

Acckkk! We have been duped by zombie post lovers, who are resurrecting dead threads and necroposting to them.

It's a ploy! It's all a ploy to make people think that we're being invaded by zombies ... just so we can buy anti-zombie helmets!!11one1!!
    5. timethief
It may not be a ploy. They may actually be ZOMBIE thread lovers ... lol

I really just ignore them. If there is a negative comment on my blog I just leave it there. Everybody have the right to their opinion so I just respect that. Plus when I see good and bad comments together it is usally a sign that you wrote a good post.
