How do you handle questionable comments/emails?

Hi, folks-
I had an incident recently where I got an email from a visitor that was a little strange. It was one of those cases where the person's intentions were questionable-- they were asking for advice but seemed to have nestled that around some other commentary that made me a little nervous.
So my question is to you all is, what do YOU do in this case? I ended up not responding to the email-- I didn't want to encourage them-- but I don't want to be rude, either.
Thoughts?

Delete it. Many times these people will go away if you ignore them. I am lucky so far and have had only positive comments. Although blogging and having an online store has increased my email spam but I just filter that out. I imagine that getting creepy comments is a bit disturbing though. Hope your commentor goes away...

I actually welcome a dissenting viewpoint. It adds depth to a discussion and brings more people to the blog. If you start deleting comments how will you ever know if your writing, or in particular your blog, is any good?
I dont know if I have ever received an email or a comment that freaked me out. I would like to hear more specifics if you are willing to share the email. -

IMO logging the IP, deleting the comment or email, and failing to engage is the best way to go.
