I've always wondered how the general public gets new music.

For example, like i said on my blog, vistalegend.blogspot.com/2009/09/my-new-song-obsessed.html , I find music on iTunes.

But most of my friends don't know the songs until I tell them.

What about you? Do you go into a CD store or what?

lol, on youtube if you search for example: "new R&B", you will be able to find the latest tracks by rolling over the drop down menu for "uploaded" which will have anytime as it's primary function.

Choose "this week", or "this month", or even "today" if you want the very latest.

This is how I usually listen to what's fresh, and If I like it I'd wait for the artist to come out with his/her album and buy it.

I search YouTube, itunes and Bestbuy for new music. Many people don't purchase the physical CD anymore but as a fan of music I still do even if I purchase it on itunes, I still like to have the physicl CD its self.

I have a whole pile of places where I find new music, but The Hype Machine is my first stop, most days. (Of course, being a music blogger I do get some delivered straight to my e-mail. I love it when that happens.) Whoops - I almost forgot the link! hypem.com and more of where I find more music www.squidoo.com/free-legal-music-resources

My dad usually has lots of new music. And I just search via youtube or google for new tracks. I'm usually the one to tell my friends about new tracks haha.

First i check the latest release on the record bars, next is to check their videos online.

I do research in cyberspace. I subscribe to online magazines like Hot Press, Claddagh Records and Billboard so I know what's new. Then i go to record stores. When I can't find it there I order online. Also there are new bands in myspace that add me and ask for my two cents. If i like the music then i check if they have a CD out or they have tracks available for purchase online. That's where I get my new music. I don't rely so much in YouTube because few people there really upload quality bands or music.

I read Acoustic Guitar magazine, they are always mentioning great guitar players.

The other thing I do is check out the ECM label, it's contemporary jazz.

Usually, I go on intuition just by the look of the CD, I bought about fifty albums last Christmas and only one was rotten, and two were mediocre. Most of the others were world class in various styles.

Also, lots of people send me stuff at their blogs. This guy Jimmy Robinson sent me an email the other month, eventually I got to it.

acousticguitarists.net/2009/09/08/acoustic-guitar-jimmy-robinson-youtube/ I listened to a few of his youtubes and liked it. I have a backlog of emails from guitarists to check out. Also I've played for 40 years and I have the history of some styles of guitar in my head.

I subscribe to places like RoadRunner Records, Sony Music, iTunes, etc. thru their websites and get emails announcing new releases. I also find out a lot from Yahoo! entertainment.

Youtube is a great resource. Type in the name of an artist and 2009 and you get the songs. Its especially great in my genre of music because all I have to search is 2009 riddims and ALL the artists come up! Too bad non-Jamaican music doesn't have "riddims". LOL.
