Yesterday, I read a post by Chris Brogan about managing your online presence. It had a list of 19 things you could do everyday to help manage your online presence.

That got me thinking about how members can use BC to manage their online presence. We put up a post with a few suggestions on how to use the site to do just that: blog.blogcatalog.com/blogging-101/using-blogcatalog-to-manage-your-online-p....

Do you use BC to manage your online presence? Do you have any additional tips that would be helpful to the community?

Also, here's the link to Chris's post which has tips on using twitter, facebook, LinkedIn and blogs: www.chrisbrogan.com/19-presence-management-chores-you-could-do-every-day/

I have to have a low IQ because I'm not very tall.

Great post! It's also cool to see the text wrap around the image in the post. I have always wondered why this wasn't employed on earlier posts as the blog is a wordpress blog and all that's required is a single format click to achieve it.

I sort of use BC to manage a sort of online presence, but as I am predominantly a personal blogger I just like to keep my toe in the social networking waters for future purposes.

well that's a good idea...plus social networking is kinda fun.
    2. crpitt

Read and commented. I think it's great common sense advice for building a social foundation for your blog.

Its all good advice. I sometimes don't respond to some of the Facebook things people send me because I don't understand them or they seem to be spammy. I do respond to the wall comments and my inbox of course. I remember getting all these EASTER eggs for awhile and I didn't send any back.

I read an interview with the CEO of Zappos who said that you shouldn;t really try to market or sell people when on Facebook or Twitter. rather, think of it as a place to hang out and socialize. Show people you're cool, funny, down to earth so that you can build relationships without being seen as spammy.

I too get put off by spammy stuff on social networks, as I think most do, and appreciate those who just share themselves and their own take on life.

I've been trying to connect more of my different social media pieces together-- remembering to add Twitter and Facebook buttons on the blogs, etc.

Recently, I've had a few more regular readers looking me up on those sorts of venues. So I figure, might as well make it easier for them.

I would love an online presence! if you look closely i'm that one guy in the back there jumpin up n down lightly whispering "me, it's me" cause I'm a bit shy =/. But honestly my blog is more for me and to brush up my techniques to writing product reviews, while putting my own opinion out there and say things other places like ign and such wouldn't.

lol ... I left a comment on the post and it turned into a blog post that I'm publishing on my blog momentarily. Thanks for the stimulation.

To thine own self be true
The way bloggers communicate and present themselves and their opinions online is important, but even more important than that is "to thine own self be true". Provided we are courteous observers of netiquette then who we are online ought to be the same "who" we are offline.

Time Thief, you have stolen my heart with your posts.

[Blushing] Really? Actually, it's hard being the authentic me, while still being mindful, and trying to avoid offending others. It would be far easier to project a phony people pleaser personality, because that was who I was role modeled to become. Thank you so much for your kind words. It's good to know that some folks online aren't put off by strong and opinionated women.

Eh, I've never liked the idea of people side-stepping their thoughts and who they are simply in service of being "polite" to others. It's a rather disgusting trait if you ask me, cause it only shows societies own lack of trust and responsibility to others, when in comparison to their own ideas. Plus I come from a family that is predominately women, and my spouse is a little italian girl. So I know a bit about opinionated women hehe.

Being put off by someone with an opinion, to me, just means that you aren't ready to give your own opinion. Life revolves around change and the differences and strengths of peoples opinions are what govern our changes. To expect someone to not take part in that is holding humanity back from any real progress.

Well, that's good to hear. That's the nice thing about blogging and online relationships, one person inspires another, who inspires another and so on. Definitely send me a shout with the link when it's done!
