Hello all. I'm new to the whole subscribing to blogs thing, and honestly I never thought I'd ever want to subscribe to blogs... until I joined BlogCatalog LOL!

No seriously, there are a bunch of blogs that I enjoy on this site, and since I'm pretty busy I hardly have the time to come on here and individually go to each person's profile and then visit their site to see their recent blogs (or if they've even updated their blogs)... then it hit me - DUH, I should subscribe!

I see all the options given by FeedBurner, and frankly... I don't know which to choose. So I thought, who better to ask then BLOGGERS themselves?!

So tell me, how do you subscribe to blogs? What sites do you use? Any recommendations? Any piece of info will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

I subscribe to sites by RSS and read posts using Google's feed reader.

I haven't tried any other feed readers but am happy enough with Google's not to bother.

I use Mozilla thunderbird to manage my emails and my RSS feeds all in one program. I like the way everything is sorted together in one program so I don't have to worry about having more things open.

If you use a web based email, such as Yahoo or Gmail, then you will probably find it best to stick to the same service for feed reading, at least initially.

Most feed readers have an option to import OPML, which is a database file that lists the blogs you like to read.

If you try one, and don't like it and want to try something else, you can export your favorite feeds and import them into the new reader.

Most web based feed readers are free, as are many of the desktop versions, so there is no cost to experimenting.

I like Netvibes. I add the urls and manage them all in one reader...to each his/her own, though.

I love the Feedblitz email updates as they are delivered right into the Inbox. For Blogs that only offer feeds, I use the web-based reader, Bloglines, which I fine very easy to use and manage. I've heard the Google reader is another excellent choice.

Google Reader works for me. I really like the interface, and the fact that it marks blog as read only when you go "past" them.

Google reader is the great way to go. I also add the feed to my netvibes personal page since It gives you a bird's eye view of the blogs.

Ive always preferred a standalone application to read my feeds.

newsfire is by far my favorite

Just wanted to thank everyone for their responses, I've been looking into everyone's suggestions.

I was slightly overwhelmed with the many ways one can subscribe to blogs/feeds, but you all have narrowed it down quite nicely and I just wanted to say thank you for pointing me in the right direction

Thanks again! You guys are awesome.

I like the way Yahoo email incorporates RSS feeds. Very convenient.

If it's a blog I really like and care to follow (I'm pretty bad at keeping up with RSS feeds..), I subscribe via email if I have the option.

I've been using JetBrains Omea Reader 2.2. It lets me annotate, categorize and it just sits happily in my taskbar giving me notifications when the blogs I read have updates.

    Best part is it's free

    I use FeedDemon mainly: www.newsgator.com/Individuals/FeedDemon

    Been using it for years.

Definitely Google's feed reader. I have gmail so it's easy to access my subscriptions when I check my mail in the morning.
