How do you track what topics are hot?

How do you keep track of the latest hot topics in your field?
I think some useful online tools are:
1. Social Mention
2. WhosTalkin
3. Twitter search
4. Google Trends

What blogs do you read or tracking tools do you use to keep up with the latest trends? Come up with post ideas?

you can look for the most dugg or stumbled article and you'll find out what readers are most interested in.-

I use google alerts. -

(1) Here at BC we can click the search link www.blogcatalog.com/search
and find Trending Topics. Then we can type a topic of interest in and use the "social" feature as well.
(2) At wordpress.com we can find the Hot VIP Posts and the Hot Community Posts on the main page.
(3) Similarly we can find the trending or top topics on the front page of sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, Mixx, etc.
(4) You can also use tweetfeed to target specific topics as that's what it's designed to do.
P.S. I also use Google Alerts.
