I have heard a lot around the blogosphere about Twitter. I joined the site several months ago but still don't understand how it can help my blog. Whenever I visit Twitter I am limited to what I can do. Any suggestions?

Every hour! I'm sorry I'm not sitting at my computer 24 hours a day. And I refuse to set my alarm clock. I think that is a little extreme.

Search twitter and connect with people with similar interests - then tweet (i do usually once a day as i find when i'm looking to follow someone - if they've not recent post history beyond a week, i don't bother) about your posts, what you're doing etc and you'll slowly pick up a few visitors / followers.

I'm still trying to figure out the whole twitter thing myself. I know my addy is twitter.com/MarieOrriss but not sure how to get started on my phone. Do I have to be on the net or can I just text?

I'd caution against using Twitter as a blog promotion tool only.
I think the best way to approach Twitter is to be an interesting person and chat with your followers and ppl you're following, to post cool links that are NOT your blog, and then when you update, post about it. In other words, don't talk about your blog all the time.

Tweetbacks for Wordpress
This plugin imports those tweets about your posts as comments. You can display them in between the other comments on your blog, or display them separately.

This is an old thread, but I'm sure people still have this question.
crpitt suggested that you use twitter to find tweeple in your niche.. if you blog about SEO then do a twitter search for #SEO and get in the conversation.
certainly don't post a link to your blog every hour. That's a good way to lose followers - you should only 'promote' your own means every 1 in 10 tweets - the other 9 have to be extremely useful links - saying you finished lunch doesn't count. -

There are several ways to promote your blog or just about anything else on Twitter. If you are not taking advantage of it's power, then you are missing the "band wagon". I can not put them all here, but you can read a lot about improving your experience with Twitter on twittnotes.com BTW, you can follow me here @DiTesco twitter.com/DiTesco/

Did you see the recent report that Twitter might not be as "active" as everyone is thinking?
40% of the 7 million Twitter users do not make posts after their first day.
2/3 of Twitter users follow FEWER than ten people.
25% do not following anyone.
I wonder if Twitter will last? -
Every time I post on my blog, I do a tweet about it. Putting the link on twitter seems to encourage people to click on it. I also use Twitter to automatically update my Facebook page, so my tweets and links go straight to update my Facebook status as well.
