How does everybody get so much traffic?

Topics: Help, traffic
My blog is still very young and most days I'm lucky if I get 10 hits to my blog. Some days, if I spend all day joining in on discussions here, I'll get 20 or more hits. Am I doing something to drive traffic away from my blog or am I missing something entirely?
Please help!
Criticism is welcome,

I write humor posts which are very popular with Stumblers. I'm still not getting a great amount of traffic but I'm averaging 175-300 uniques from StumbleUpon per day.
I don't know if your blogs content is good for that - I'll check now.
I suggest you add more images to your blog. It makes it much more reader-friendly.
I like your layout. It's very easy on the eyes. -

I will make you feel better I think I have good content but I dont get that many hits but then I am happy to have the odd lost soul wander my way

I stumbled two of your posts, I believe. Let me know if that helps - I'm getting more interested into how StumbleUpon users think.

You got 56 pages in Google. That is a high amount. Just keep making new posts.
Google seems to change the amount of pages all day long it seems that it indexes. I am not sure why. Sometimes my blog has 156 pages indexed by them, then I check and I got 176 pages. It bounces around all the time.
If you made say 1,000 post, you have a chance that Google may index all 1,000 pages which will get you more traffic. -

I recommend StumbleUpon... or joining other social networking sites.
StumbledUpon, for me, has been the biggest traffic booster.. hands down.
Also be patient
Write well researched, informative content and develop relationship with other bloggers. Especially the ones in your niche (if you have one) It all takes time but if you keep nurturing it. It will grow.
Good luck -
I've been slowly building my traffic in various ways. I had 4500 uniques so far for November, and get about 250 visits per day. My suggestion is to get out there and promote your blog. Trade links with other bloggers, post your blog in your signature in forums you visit. SEO is also important... there is alot of information available about how to improve search engine traffic. I think most importantly, keep adding quality content. "Content is king" as they say. The more you have, the more likely someone will find your site.

I still can't get over the spikes that come from left field--no known origin. Everybody here seems to be able to pin down an origin. Not me.

content is king people will go to your site for something new,unique,funny,etc...
my last post got me 5000+(analytics) visits before my webhost shut me down for exceeding bandwidth. now I moved to a new host with unlimited bandwidth I still have to test them. most visits came from stumbleupon aside from other sources. I would suggest joining digg, propeller, delicious, reddit to give your site coverage but you need meaningful content to be ranked/voted.
but if you want to be taken seriously get a domain name, anyway with blogger,it has a feature to make your site pointed to a domain.

Yes, content is king, but I think my blog (fineartathome.com) may be too unique.
I have a fair amount of content, and have a lot more to add, but I am still only seeing maybe 20 uniques a day from here and search engines. Very few Stumblers. Most are from Google Image searches.
