For starters, you might want to read the discussion "Traffic Generation - Tips and Tricks" on this Discussion Forum posted by Jonathan.

I see that you've visited that discussion already. Over and above that, take a look at: codex.wordpress.org/Search_Engine_Optimization_for_Wordpress

It's kinda written for Wordpress, but the generic info is all there. Tried the search engines for help?

Hi - I haven't been blogging long either but here's my suggestions - Try joining in discussions in forums related to your subject and leaving a URL to you site, in your signature. Visit other blogs on the same subject as yours and leave comments where appropriate but don't spam

Thanx zakman, I'm trying to post to all the search engines now. How do I know similar blogger who identify with my passion -- zen and cycling?

      Zen and cycling?

Hmmmm.... try reading "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M. Pirsig?

      Might have some clues.

Thanx TR123, I think I need to set aside a considerable amount of time to posting comments on similar blogs and in discussion forums. And that is the only way I can increase the traffic. Isn't it?

I also would work on picking our an Avatar for BC and giving yourself an identity. I think a big part of being a blogger is being personable, and an avatar helps let your personality shine through a little. Same advice applies if you join other communities who let you use avatars.

Why do you expect other people to read your blog?

Are you discussing something that is topical or important to them?
Are you adding anything to their conversation?

I am sure there are hundreds of cycling blogs that you should be reading and linking to.
Look for social networks for cycling - it took me 30 seconds to find www.bikespace.net

Explore sites like del.icio.us and their tags on cycling.

It is important to be interacting with your peer group, other cyclist bloggers, thus don't go linking through to major cycling blogs expecting them to immediately link back to you.

You want to be popular? In a month? The answer is promotion, promotion, promotion.....
Advertise your blog, let everyone know your blog, your family, friends, colleagues, clients, associates, relatives ......

    Submit to search engines

Find places to link to your blog. There are so many places interested in posting RSS feeds. But there are many other sites that are interested in letting people know when a blog has been updated. Stick to your topic, write and update often. Use Ping-O-Matic every time you publish a post.

To comment on other blogs just in order to drive traffic to your own blog is a waste of time. The majority of readers leave a blog without reading comments and without leaving a comment. See your comment function (and others) as a friend.

excellent advices on there! I'd add a little something, try to find blogs that are related to your niche, and if one of them starts a meme or a tag game (make sure it's relevant to your blogs' topic!) join in, it should help get some more exposure, just gotta make sure it's really relevant, and if you can't find anything like that, comment on other blogs, and start a "zen and cycling" meme, it may work

I don't memes and tag games are something one should really dig into, but if it's relevant and you "future" readers could find interesting and useful, why not?

    my 2 cents

Thanks a ton all of you out there. It was really a wonderful lesson in promoting a blog. Thanx once again. I will put them to work right now

If you want to get more traffic change your avatar. There have been a bunch of online studies done about Avatars. Here is an interesting post at momgadget.com about her MyBlog habits..focusing on which people she clicks on

    momgadget.com/mybloglog-habits/

She also has other advice on getting a blog popular. I recommend that if you are serious about getting a blog that is popular focus more on creating a great blog. Right now you have posted one week of posts... sort of jumbled. You ought to spend more time on your blog otherwise you are waisting your time. Unless of course you are only in this to get a few google clicks along the way.
