How good are you at remembering names?

Forgetting people’s names within 30 seconds of being introduced to them is something that happens all the time with me.
I was wondering how many of you share this problem with me?
What do you do in such a situation?

If I write it down I do better, or if I hear it repeated a few times. I seem to be concentrating on a lot of other things about a person when I am first meeting them.
I have gotten good at asking: "What was your name again? I so enjoyed meeting you the other day at...." People generally will tell you their name again. -

very true...but stuttering and panicking to remember names happens just so often with me.

I forget names sometimes but I could be excuse. In my job, I meet over a hundred people a day and everday I meet a lot of Johns, Marys, Toms, Bettys, etc. Some of the people I meet are quite special and their name sticks in my head but like Onchong, it's easier for me to remember faces than their names.

I'm terrible at remembering names so I do word association to help me remember...for example someone named Mike likes to cook so I picture Mike with a chef's hat on with Mike printed on his hat!
Corny but it works....I always remember faces~ -
Horrible horrible horrid....
I say 15 names before I get to the right one when yelling at my daughter.
ROFLMAO!
OOh oooh - But I have an uncanny recollection for voices (and strangely HOUSE STRUCTURE LAYOUTS... ) -
I remember names, but not faces. It's bloody useless having a collection of names and nobody to use them on. (That's why I like the net, you're all wearing name tags.)
Give you an example of how much I suck with faces: I started my studies one beautiful August 15th. (I can't really recall if it was beautiful, but let's, for the sake of the story claim it was, because nothing else worth mentioning happened that day.) Then, on October 30th, I walked to my class room only to find the door locked with a note that says: "Please join me in room 34" and signed by the teacher. A young fellow that had walked in just behind me commented on the note: "Oh, I see our class is moved." I looked at him, and I could have sworn I had never seen him before in my life. I later learned that he had started school in my class on August 15th that year.
A good friend of mine knows this of me, and she once saved my face when we were walking through our town and another class mate of mine, not hers, she had only seen him once, was walking towards us. She goes: "The guy there in a black coat is one of your class mates. Be prepared to say hello."
The sad thing is that these guys were actually kind of cute. Especially the later mentioned.

I have never had this problem. For some reason, I have a photographic memory when it comes to people's names. I generally have a great memory anyway so that might be it.

I remember names on a mathematical equation of whether I will ever need to see them again. Of course, probability is not perfect, and I've bumped into neighbor's 2 years ago super bowl party guest's girlfriend at the grocery store. She said "Hey Beer Drinker" (which is when i looked at Polybore to ask him why we talk about ourselves like were aren't in the room) and I say Hey. Period.
I've gone on to ask the hot chicks what their names are again or ask other people nearby to introduce themselves to get the name for me again. Seems to work.
