This week I experienced a cycling accident for the first time during my over 30 years period of cycling on the roads of London. I have since been nursing my wounds and resting to aid the healing process.

At first I felt that this was a very negative experience. Since then I have encountered incredible compassion from others, support from friends and family I didn't anticipate and a renewed gratefulness for the life I have.

My question is this: How has a negative become a positive for you?

Well growing up with having had my parent being involved with alcohol and drugs, and loosing my father to the sickness has helped me be empathetic to those type of people who have the same problem.

A friend of my brother's tried commiting suicide a couple of weeks ago. He has no family here he's kind of a drifter...anyways after my bro found him and got him to hospital the police picked him up and he is having to sit in jail while waitin for a bed at the state hosp.
Anyway,I had never met him,but as soon as will told me what happened,I have been going to the jail once a week just to talk to him.
Well he wrote my bro a letter the other day and at the end it said....

Will you have a very special sister, always take care of her...she has made me want to live for the 1st time in 10 yrs...

    it makes us strong.
in a way..it helps us find our weakness which we thought never existed, or cared to acknowledge.
    its a good therapy

Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond to this question. There are many times in our lives when we feel there seems to be nothing but disaster and negativity all around. It is quite a challenge to look deep within ourselves and find the golden nugget of positivity that will guide and support us to get to the other side of a seemingly impossible journey. I am so grateful to everyone who wrote in, and to those who were unable to express their story in words on this page because perhaps it is still too difficult for you to release the pain. I wish you all well in everything you do and hope that the understanding and inner strength you have developed will stand you in good stead to deal with other challenges that come along. Thank you so much for sharing your stories here, you have inspired me and possibly many others who may be reading this.
