Have you made any major lifesytle changes, especially since oil prices have been hitting the roof? Have your life become more 'oil conscious'? If so...let me know..
I have also written a BLOG post 'with a twist' on this issue. You are most welcome to visit me at my blog and leave comments.

I feel guily every time I drive. Anywhere. I drove 28 miles yesterday to visit my parents. Had a great visit, but didn't enjoy the drive like I used to.

I agree. I have to drive 35 miles one way to work ... and it's in a place where bus travel is not an option. At least the classes I teach are evening classes, so I am always going against traffic (not spending time idling) and I only go in 2-3x / week. The rest of the time I work at my home office, or go to my local office for office hours; that's only 7 miles away and I can combine the trip with exercise at the campus facility, grocery shopping, banking, and other errands.

I agree with leafsoup...driving is no longer a pleasure! When my car goes downhill, i take it out of gears..bring it to neutral...to conserve oil..lol.

I've been buying more stuff online.

I buy more stuff online too. Get this: I found that there are many non-perishable grocery items at Amazon that cost less than at the supermarket here in town, and I don't have any problem spending more than $25, so shipping is free. Makes no sense to me though, that Amazon can ship to me and it's still cheaper than if I walked a block to the store to buy stuff.

We go out for dinner or lunch almost every day. Because of the higher gas prices we now skip ordering beverages, getting water instead. That saves us an average of $15 a week we can use towards gas.

Lucky for me I live within a very short distance of a lot of great outdoor recreation so it isn't so bad. We did cancel a trip down to Vegas at the beginning of summer because of the price of gas.

A policeman who frequents the local donut shop mentioned a while back that he has noticed that many motorists are not coming to a full stop at stop signs and are also going through yellow and red lights since the sky rocketing gas prices in an attempt to save gas...He was quite concerned about this as intersections is where most traffic accidents occur...

Last week a motorist killed two pedestrians going through a red light...

Going out to eat is no longer an option

I live 12 miles from the beach...seldom go anymore

It's pretty much come down to driving to work, driving the kids to school, and going to the store when needed. Bus service here is a joke or worse, so I stay home ALOT

It's making it hard just to the grocery store and back. I live in a rural area and a trip to the store is at least 20 miles one way. And having an old crap car does not help at 13 miles per gallon.

I have made some changes in the way I drive. I used to drive with a very heavy foot, accelerating quickly and stopping quickly. I now drive slower, and coast in neutral when I can.

Simply by doing this, I increased the mileage I get out of one tank of gas from 235 miles to 370 miles!!! Those small driving changes may not seem like a big deal, but that's like getting 7 free gallons of gas with every fill-up.

Other than that, I haven't made any changes. I still eat out the same amount, still spend the same amount on groceries, etc.

Sure, the hike in gas prices is a nuisance, but overall I don't fee like it's had any effect on my lifestyle.

    Gerry:
They are also saying that many cars are driving very close to trucks on the highways to get caught up in their wind and essentially be "carried" by the truck in an attempt to save gas. This is so dangerous for obvious reasons.

It has changed some things in my life. We don't go anywhere much now, too expensive for gas, everything is long distance driving in Alaska.

Plus I will be putting off turning on the heat this winter as long as possible, as heating fuel is also outrageous now.

We are pinching pennies for sure now!
I wonder if it will ever go down again. Or just continue climbing.

It has also affected my business. Summer tourists are spending very little, their extra spending money has to be used on fuel now.

I cry everytime I have to buy gas! I have to debate between buying milk for my kids to drink or gas for the drive to the grocery store. I make a map of where I have to go and contemplate whether an appointment or errand can wait for a different day. The same goes for groceries. Now that milk is over $4 and food is just as high, you have to decide which item is more important. Junk food is out because that only helps in adding unnecessary dollars to your bill. The questions are: Can you go without eggs? Which affordable meal will give better nutrients to your kids? Frozen veggies or fresh? Should I wait on the watermelon? My household is eating more beans and rice than ever before and that is healthy! At this point, all we do is buy what we can afford in a sensible way and pray over everything we eat. We ask that God will continue to bless us with good health especially now that we are unable to afford the foods that were once a luxury!

I wonder when car pooling will get popular again. It was all the rage during World War II, when gas rationing cut gas use to just a few miles per week. Four people to a car, they would go off to work together, shopping together, nights out together, etc. Worked out pretty well.

We walk more and eat less. With everything giong up as a result, it's hard not to be affected in one way or another.

The higher prices are pissing me off.
  19. abhatnagar19
Interesting point Jack. Car pooling is a nice option...especially for professionals who have to commute daily..

I've been staying inside and find things to occupy me other then going out and doing stuff.

    Don't eat out as much.

I have also noticed, that apart from oil, food prices are also hitting the roof...especially organic foods.
