   Humility is very important in life. I do wonder if your friend would have had a different outcome if he had been contrite to the guy he injured.
   That said, I once got in a minor accident (thank god no injuries) which was my fault. All being humble got me was that the other guy had a solid admission of my fault and he still went through the insurance company.

   Humilty is something good, as long as that doesnt mean you deny your own self-worth.
   
   I think being humble means that you dont feel that you are better than anyone else.But at the same time, dont feel that your "below" anyone else.That balance is not easy to get though.
