My blogspot blog is working out great. I got a custom domain for it, and as it's hosted by google for free there is no other outgoing costs.
It takes a bit of customisation to make it look "okay". I did quite a bit to try and make it not look like one of the crappy default templates.

If you have good programming and design skills you can do even better.
So free hosting that is reliable and allows you to publish adsense to make cash. Excellent service :-) -
It was my favorite blog site after searching through many. It is easy to use but not boring, you can keep doing more and more depending on your needs and skills. I just use it for a personal related blog www.jeanmenzies.blogspot.com but it's a lot of fun and easy to set up and get going.

I like using Blogger/Blogspot. Now my one blog has a custom template (which looks less standardly Blogger-ish) and I've got a custom domain, I feel it functions like I want it to.
Plus, I don't spend all my time maintaining my site-- I get to concentrate on my posts. -
I prefer working on my blogger blogs over the wordpress one. Rearranging the layout the way I want it is so much nicer and less time consumming.
-
I have the blog aabaca.blogspot.com in the Blogger.
-
I agree with everyone else here .. I recently switched from WP to Blogger/Blogspot and really like it alot. Very user friendly and offers alot of options!

Blogspot is easy but can't do sophisticated things. I'm on Blogspot but will move on Wordpress (self-hosted not wordpress.com) when content will be richer.
-
You can create glossaries, faqs, shopping cart, bookmark sites or simply be more productive thanks to plugin you use for example this one:
wordpress.org/extend/plugins/external-related-links/

Blogspot is doing well, I am currently managing two blogs limferdi.blogspot.com and my new blog limferdi.blogspot.com Blogspot is so easy to use and I can edit it's CSS the way I want and anytime I want.
-
I have a blog at blogspot. Its doing great and I have got a custom template. my template theartofstart.blogspot.com/ is Adsense Optimized and i am very happy with the performance of my blog.

blogspot works for me - although sometimes the editing functions can be a bit temperatmental, but that's true of just about everything I've done with Google!

I have both...WordPress and Blogger.
If I could do away with WordPrss I would...Just too much work for somebody that doesn't have any interest in the "tech" side of blogging.
Blogger is simple and easy to use. For most people it will work fine.
Most of what people do on WordPress is for themselves. The readers of the blogs could care less.
Most blogs are not really read by that many people anyway. Having a fancy looking template with bells and whistles will bring in exactly zero readers. The only thing on a blog that really matters is relevant content to what a person is searching for. -
I just love blogger...it's user friendly and quite accessible. The simpler the better.
MY NEW BLOG do browse! fullcircle-kl.blogspot.com -
I've been on blogger/blogspot since 2006 and it works fine. They have improved it over the years and introduced the features without disruption.
Some people don't like the top blogger nav bar. It doesn't bother me but I guess you can remove it with a custom page. I made some slight changes to my page by modifying the template.
It's a good platform. -
Hi, I am new to blogging on BLOGSPOT.COM. I find it to be very easy to use, post, change, edit. I would recommend it to anyone, especially if your not "high tech" like me...
Go for it...only good reviews from me! -
user friendly and easy to use,I give it to blogspot anytime anyday or what do you think purnachender?

I really like blogspot. However, sometimes I have problems with the spacing when I post. I solve this problem by creating the post in Word and pasting it in. Has anyone had the same problem? pinkmonkeychatter.blogspot.com.

I like the simplicity and ease-of-use of blogspot blogs. I currently have 2 of them. A MMO blog onlinebitsandpieces.blogspot.com/ and a humor blog humortrip.blogspot.com/
But for other niche blogs, I use Wordpress. -
I have tried many blogging platforms, and still, blogger/blogspot is my favorite. It's easy to use, easy to customize, and seldom has any down-time or glitches. You can advertise with Adsense, and yet the platform itself remains free, unlike Wordpress, which is good, but you have to pay quite a bit each year to get the pro version if you want to advertise.

Blogspot was my first experience in blogging, I started with successgalore.blogspot.com, its so easy to create new post, comment, edit, even for the most stupid fellow. The good thing about it is the ability to make money with it through Adsense, blogspot is simply wonderful.

Blogger is easier than Wordpress for Non-Geeks. Still you may need to become more knowledgeable if you want to optimize your blog for SEO, see
www.bloggernovice.com/2009/05/customize-blogger-permalinks.html
www.bloggernovice.com/2009/05/blogger-seo-title-format.html
There are also less choice of templates than Wordpress but from time to time you can find some unique jewels like World of Warcraft dotA Blogger Theme:

yea yea i personally perfer blogspot too =p
most people like WP because WP has better theme. For me, i would say if you know how to design, who say WP has better theme?!!
Besides i personally think that blogspot is more user friendly. Cheers~ -
The main reasons why I'm on blogger:
It's free.
I can put ads on it.
It's fairly easy to add new widgets.
It's fairly easy to change the layout.
The archiving is a bit messed up and sometimes blogger is down. This has only happened once or twice in the few years that I've had my blog, so no big deal. All things considered, for a free service they've been pretty consistent. -

I have both Wordpress and Blogspot blog. When I started to realize that my blog on Blogspot started to pick up with Google, Yahoo, Ask and Bing way ahead of Wordpress, I concentrated on the first.
Blogspot is easy to use. It can be customized the way you want it, starting from the layout, post titles, labels and content to become SEO optimized, related links, among others. It's also doing pretty good when it comes to PR. -
I have both blogspot and wordpress, but I like it my blogspot more because it is easy to add more features, like links, ads, faster to load, and the best part is? I am making more money with adsense and for the best affiliate programs that I'm promoting, Acme People Search Engine and GDI.
My Proof of Income: affiliate-rocks.blogspot.com
Cheers,

I have two blogspot blogs and one wordpress. I don't know why people are so crazy about worpress. You can do pretty much all standard stuff on blogger.
WP sympathizers always brag about the plug-ins. But the same thing can be pretty much done through many blogger too, if you are able to tweek html.
The best part with blogger is that you can take a backup of its template and posts, and you can sleep in peace without getting nightmares that your blog has gone down.
I recently did something foolish and now my wordpress blog is disappeared! This hardly ever happen with blogspot blogs. But I was banned by blogger once. But that was a rare problem. -
There were at least 9 reasons I chose to delete my blogspot blog in 2006 and remain at wordpress.com instead:
(1) lack of timely Staff responses to technical support tickets;
(2) lack of a peer-to-peer technical support forum and no sense of community;
(3) templates that did not validate;
(4) limited theme selection and very few themes I considered to be suitable and attractive as well as functional;
(5) no ability to create static pages;
(6) awkward comment systems and lack of plugins to increase functionality;
(7) no capacity to use categories or tags that search engines treated as keywords, and consequently no central global tagging pages like wordpress . com that provides traffic from search results;
(8) the blogspot subdomain had many RSS scraper blogs and splogs;
(9) there were also many no quality or low quality content blogs, as well as, blogs with plagiarized content that were obviously just being pimped out to make an income from adsense clicks.
When I chose to have my own domain the idea of using Blogger software did not even cross my mind. I knew how to use wordpress and I downloaded free software from worddpress.ORG that gave me complete control over my blog and also provided other benefits as well that you will find in this post: How and why to get your own domain
onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/07/11/2008/06/26/how-and-why-to-get-your-own...
Question:
Name the top A list and B list professional bloggers in your niche and then answer this question. How many A list and B list professional bloggers in my niche are using Blogger software on their own domains, as opposed to those who are using wordpress software? The answer is that there are far more using wordpress software on their domains so there must be reasons for that, right?-
Brainwashing.
Many of the reasons that you left Blogger no longer exist, specifically 2-6, and using your own domain name eliminates the concerns in 8 and 9 as well. I can't speak to your first concern, as I've gotten my questions and problems addressed via the help forum rather than submitting a ticket to the actual staff.
That is not to say that Blogger is perfect or a great choice for everyone. I'm just trying to point out that it's been quite a while since you've used it. Even in the two years I've been using it a lot has changed (and I use Haloscan for the comments on my more formal blog, which gives me a lot more control over them). -
@legbamel
FWIW I should have also stated that I do currently have a Blogger blog that I have no interest in, aside from using it as a test blog.
(1) Blogger templates do NOT validate today in 2009 "right out of the box".
(2) Haloscan is IMHO an inferior commenting stsrem when compared to the built in commenting system that comes with all wordpress software.
(3) Bloggers "labels" are NOT picked up and indexed by search engine bits and indexed as key words like categories and tags on wordpress blogs are.
(4) Blogspot bloggers must separately create and upload a sitemap for their blogs, when it's automatically done for us at wordpress . com.
I acknowledge and accept the fact that many bloggers who have blogspot blogs are happy with they've got and that's great. I likewise acknowledge there have been improvements.
If Blogger software is so great then why is it that there are far more A list and B list professional bloggers using wordpress software on their domains -
To be fair, I've seen people on this very forum switch to WordPress because they were told that no one would consider them "serious" bloggers unless they did. I have seen that same admonition on every blogging forum in which I've posted and in which I've lurked. Whether or not it's true, it really puts me off to see something pushed so hard on bloggers who may or may not be able to actually use the software. It's a self-perpetuating stereotype.
I don't really keep track of my search engine standings or worry about submitting a site map. I have had my tag pages come up as search engine results (which is entertaining, as I'm usually researching a related topic), but I don't know how well they normally index. The fact that I don't know or care about those things may very well indicate that I'm not a "serious" blogger, by which I assume people mean someone who is out to break traffic records and take the web world by storm.
I'm just trying to present the other side of the coin (and to remember that the original question was completely assinine and not worth all of this effort). The base Blogger templates do stink, I can't argue with that. I do wish that they'd pick up on the categories vs. labels idea so that I could label my posts better and still have broad categories for people to browse.
But there are good things about it, too. I start getting search engine traffic very quickly for new posts. There are plenty of resources out there to help me figure out how to do things, in my HTML-and-CSS-ignorant state. It is exceedingly easy to use, for the most part. I'm not really advocating for it, I'm just playing devil's advocate. -
@legbamel
I'm going to give it the blogspot versus wordpress torture test and make sure I blog my experiences. Right now our business has first priority because it's tourist season. The home front gardening, freezing, canning stuff has second priority because it's summer. My contract work and online work can be wedged into third place and moved to second or first as required.
In the winter, when things are quieter, I'll found a new Blogger blog and use an empty "private" wordpress .com blog I have and do a comparison of the experience of founding a new blog simultaneously on both kinds of software which I will publish. -
Leg - I've noticed this too and I can't explain why
I start getting search engine traffic very quickly for new posts.
I really have no idea why but this does seem to be the case
My major beef with Blogspot has to do with the validation. My SEO mentor claims that w3c validation isn't important for optimization, but I disagree (not to his face, of course) if the code can't be read easily, how is it supposed to be indexed and consistantly referenced in the SERPs?
The validation errors exist regardless of the template, it's the way they have the XML set up - the navbar especially has a bunch of validation errors (of course you can get rid of the navbar legally with your own domain)
Wordpress blogs seem to validate like cake right out of the box. I wrote a post on this somewhere on my blog.
I use blogspot and don't intend on switching. That's me being stubborn though, if I could do it all over - I would choose wordpress.
about the sitemap - blogger blogs don't need to submit one
it's done for us
Thanks for advocating blogger, I do believe it gets trashed unfairly too often.. however I completely agree with everything TT said
I think most free hosted blogs wouldn't be taken serious.. wordpress or blogspot.
SEOs have by far choosen wordpress over Blogger - here's a no nonsense post from an SEO consultant who is a BC member on this exact issue www.seowizz.net/2009/05/blogger-or-wordpress-which-is-more-seo-compatible.h... -

I'm going run a parallel torture test anyway and blog it. In fact, I'm looking forward to it in an off-beat sort of way ... lol ... It's great yapping with you two.

i love blogspot!!i have two blogspot addresses and yes,its user friendly,i just change the header,cause i dont have enough time with the template of my own,but it doesn't matter.i just need to post in it.once i tried wordpress,but i dont like it,so i dont continue using it,i consider deleting it.just focusing on my two lovely blogs on blogspot.
-
I made a living off of blogspot, there fast and easy to customize, get traffic fast and can be built in a few minnutes, but the plugins on wp make it the real deal, think of anything youd like to do with your site and wp has a plugin for it. Many people dont even know about the many plugins, you can have a review site, auto post to twitter, do your seo add a picture show that fades in and out the customazation is endless.WP wins, but blogspot will allways be my backup, should I need a quick site. I probably have 100 old ones that I dont touch.

Hey, I've just written a post about "Blogger SEO tips: Easy Steps To Optimize Blogger Blog Post Title".
This is for those who have just started create a new Blogger blog. My blog is UndeniableProfits.com. If you find it useful, you can leave a comments there. -
I love wordpress.com and wordpress.org. I tried Blogger and it was ok. It just did not have the kind of support that Wordpress did.
