How is the luxury industry influenced by the current financial crysis?

I'm really curious to know the answer to this question in the context of businesses closing down. I think the luxury industry is quite affected, but to what extent? How do you choose to spend your money? I cant wait for your opinions.

    I'm finding that a lot of places are having massive discounts just to keep clients in the doors. I'm actually a little worried that we might not see some stores anymore.

      But when speaking about large businesses (like corporations or chains of stores) and the small retailers... I'm wondering which has better chances of surviving? Obviously the chains appear to have better chances but seeing so many of them stopping their activity...it really makes me wonder.
