How Long Can One Hold Off?

Topics: heat, tolerance, wagers
Last night the temperature went down to 44º. Tonight is is to drop to 41º.
We have not yet turned on the heat. I am trying to let my body adapt so I will not need to run the heating system as much as I have in the past.
Our condo is on the top floor. The condos below and beside us have already turned on their heaters. I find in the evening it gets pretty cool right about sunset, however, the heat from the other units rises. I know when they come in from their work, they crank up the heaters, because it is cold and when anyone walks up the stairs, even in the summertime, there is a mountain wind which travels right through this stairway area.
So ... How long can I hold off not flipping the switch and allowing the heater to do its thing? Not for profit wagers allowed.

Well, if you're on the top floor, you might be good to go for another couple weeks. Then again, there is going to be no sunlight in our fair region for a couple days, and the damp might start to chill the bones.
I also live on a top floor, but in a centrally heated rental. The heat kicked in maybe yesterday, I think, though I wasn't paying attention.-
I cannot stand that hot burning smell when you first turn on the heat. It makes me freak out like there is a fire. I also want to get the air vents sweeps or suctioned clean. I have to make sure they do not use the spray on the heating implements because it does give off the hot electrical odor which makes me call the fire brigade. I want to not ever have to phone them again.
I will say that not having a unit on the other side is chilling and the open outer stairway is absolutely a frigid experience. It is uncanny how the wind howls into your face as you are walking upstairs and it is doubly cruel when your arms are full.
