Answer one, or all of these questions,
or, what the heck, any other question
you feel like answering...
1. How many cats do you have?
2. How many cats does it take to change a lightbulb?
3. What the heck is up with people who don't like cats?
(Like my two neighbors who struck up a conversation with
me yesterday afternoon and asked how many cats I have,
and then both recoiled in horror when I told them I have
9 cats.)

I've got two pretty kitties. Isis is my oldest at 11 years old. She's a Sealpoint tabby mix and then I have Denali who is a two years old and is a gray long haired tabby. The oldest is the Goddess, the queen of the house, and the youngest is the court jester bound and determined to stir up as much chaos as possible.
-
My parents have one and when I get settled into my new home I plan on getting at least one kittie. People who don't like kitties are dumb, simple as that. Kitties are too precious
It takes 0 kitties to change a lightbulb cause they'll make the dog do it lmao. (I like doggies too though, when they're friendly. My hubby-to-be has a sweet dog.) -
Nine cats is a little shocking. I can't say I would have reacted any different.
I have three cats and a kitten. -
rippinkitten, NO, I do NOT have a big house.
And that would be OK... what is driving me
nuts the past couple of days is that several
of the cats have just decided that they MUST
sleep on my computer desk... I keep having
problems with websites freezing up, only to
realize that one of the cats has spread out
so they are draped over part of the keyboard.
And I'm having a hell of a time trying to
make out what is on the monitor screen when
Zebbie's butt always seems to be in front of
it. It's a good thing I LOVE cats!!!
I'll wind up one of those cat ladies that you
read articles on now and then in the news:
"Woman found dead in house. Police say she
had been dead for several days and the corpse
had been partially eaten by her 23 pet cats." -
I have no cats. I was attacked by a hungry cat when I was a little girl, scared then.
I always keep distance with them now:)-
That's like saying All Americans are bad people, when it's only a few that spoil it for everyone else.
So sorry you were frightened when you were little. It has been my experience that when a cat is frightened or feels threatened, they might lash out in order to protect themselves.
My suggestion is to visit someone that has kittens and start from there. Kitties are wonderful. You would be opening your mind and getting to experience the joy they bring. Do please, give it a go.

Of course, there are aversions born of negative experience--I've personally never really been able to work up an interest in eating Chicken & Stars soup, for instance, since my cousin threw it up all over my winter coat when we were in second grade. Something about those little stars clinging to the orange fur just turned me off of dye-cut noodles. Sometimes, it's important to overcome them, and other times, it just doesn't matter. If someone prefers not to associate with cats, even knowing it's an irrational conditioned response doesn't necessarily mean that it's worth the time and effort to "overcome" that aversion if it isn't negatively impacting life at all. Plenty of people live happy, healthy, productive lives without interacting with cats.

I just come back to read this thread, and found your two's comments, thank you both very much.
I last year turned the feeling to the cat from "keeping distance" to "yeah, it can be very lovely and touchable" by viewing a video. that video is great, many little kitties, they played, slept like little babies.

1. Two. One siamese and one... well...cat.
2. None. Cats have staff.
3. Because cats don't like them. -
About #2 - cats also don't
care about changing the
light bulbs because they
have very good night vision.
They don't really care if
anyone else can see or not...
as long as the human servant
can see well enough to keep
their food bowls refilled, of
course. -

I have one, named Kuttles. Feel free to meet him (who is neutered) on my blog.

I fostered 3 sick kittens who were too sick and small to be put up for adoption. When they got well I couldn't bring myself to put them back in the shelter so....I kept them. Now they are huge and happy.
Here is a present day 'foster parent' with his kitten

I have 1 neutered male cat. I live on acreage and my cat is kept in every night. I haven't read this entire thread so I don't know if you have neutered your 9 cats or not. I have no idea if you live in an apartment, townhouse or single family dwelling. I also don't know if you have built the 9 a cattery or if they roam freely doing their business in your neighbor's yards or not. If that latter is the case then I do believe you neighbors have a right to be horrified and unhappy.

I have one Kitty now, my other one died at the ripe old age of 17 years, a beautiful male Calico, whom I miss very much, but I am blessed to still have my big ole' 2 year old male kitty (who has been neutered) His name is Marshmellow! Spelled to fit his looks and personality.
arcticulates.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
His picture is on the post titled snow snow snow.
He won't change a light bulb, since he doesn’t need the light to see, besides, needing light is just another bothersome trait of his human pets!
I like dogs too, but was bitten by a dog when I was a small child, (I was trying to help my dog who was being attacked) so I am a little Leery of strange dogs in the neighborhood. -
I'm posting this for interest sake for the cat lovers posting to this thread.
Cat: Independence
In Egypt cats were always given special privileges and were treated like royalty. In Scandinavia the cat stood for fertility, and in India it is a symbol of childbirth. In ancient times it was believed that witches took the form of their cats at night. Cats are fiercely independent. You can never own one: it allows you to take care of it and love it, but only on its terms. They come and go as they please, when they please.
Cat's medicine is independence, curiosity, many lives, cleverness, unpredictability, healing, the ability to fight when cornered, seeing the unseen, and protection. He also represents love and can assist us in meditation.
If Cat is your Power Animal, then you have magic and mystery in your life. You are independent and a free thinker. You probably feel energized at night. You will stay with a person or situation until it bores you, and then you're gone. You have a great talent for organizing things. www.crystalinks.com/totemanimals.html-
TimeThief, I life must be very magical as I have ten cats, three boarding and some ferrels in the neighborhood. That Saint Francis statue on my front porch is a real attraction. Or, perhaps I have a giant invisible lollipop on my rooftop, which lights up, but can only be seen by the animals, and there is a sign on it that says, "Sucker!" We have soft hearts. Meow

I don't have any but next door has loads.....I think I am up to counting about 8 different ones now. But, they are great, sadly I am allergic to them but I love them as a subject for my watercolours.
So I just keep taking the photographs, my blog is getting rather full of them, LOL. I think perhaps I need a visit to the zoo for some different reference material...in case my readers are getting bored! -
1. My husband and I are cat lovers and have a bunch of them.
2. I will have to agree with VampireFaust's answer, it's human work.
3. Cats are a great judge of character, therefore, they don't want to be around them.
Here is a funny video over at taosunset's blog of a guy rapping about his new kitten.

Here is a funny post that I Stumbled Upon that teaches cats how to manipulate humans to the best of their ability.
