I was talking to someone who is in AA and he is trying to reach 90 days. 90 days! And that is just for starters. So I thought I'd find out how many days do you think you could go without a glass of beer, wine, or hard liquor?

I could go forever because I'm not much of a drinker.
But I did have a horrible time quitting smoking and had to take it one half hour at a time in the begining then an hour at a time, a day, two days, a week, a month, etc. and even now many years after quitting I occasionally (rarely) find myself craving a cigarette.
I wish that person, you were talking to, the best of luck, it's hard to quit a crutch and he/she'll need all the good thoughts they can get. -
I am definitely an alcoholic. In April '08 I passed out in public, a good person called 911, and I was rushed to an emergency room, where I was put on life-support and 24-hour monitoring for the next 12 days. If I had passed out in my apartment - which was very, very likely (it had happened many times before) - the doctors told me I would not have survived the first night.
I am in AA. The 5th of this month I have had 17 months of freedom from alcohol. And 17 months of being alive. A day at a time. Literally. And thankfully. -
I rarely drank. I'm a reverse alcoholic. I just don't like the taste of alcohol - and don't like hangovers and I have that major MAJOR hangover gene.
Like one drink and I feel nasty for a day or two.
So drinking just wasn't ever worth it much.
I will go out with the girls once in a while and have like 5 shots in one night - but then I'm dancing and We are "partying"... But that was only like once every 3 or 4 months.
Actually - to be honest - it's probably been about 3 years since I've actually done that tho. LOL!
Anyhow RIVY - love ya man - you're da bomb - so totally respect your hard work.
And I know you can do it. -
Funny, I never really drank until after my daughter was born and we moved in with my in-laws. The alcohol consumption definitely increased at that point. The longest I went after that was the 9 months when I was pregnant with my son.
Recently I did the 21-day Quantum Wellness Cleanse which included no alcohol. I thought it would be really hard (since I'm used to a glass of wine a few times per week) but it was fine actually.
Long answer for a simple question! -
I have celebrated cocktail hour most of my adult life but have given that up to support friends with drinking problems on numerous occaisions. Since I found I can take it or leave it, I think I may generally choose to leave it. It's kind of expensive (I prefer the premium stuff) and there are healthier ways to relax.
